Chapter 174 The Bait and the Trap

“Alright,” Madam Lily held Sierra’s hand tightly, unsure what to say. She had watched the livestream, even though she didn’t understand much about it. Dr. Zahn had explained what Sierra’s research could achieve, and the first drug she developed was specifically to treat her illness. What else was there to question?

Thinking about the livestream, another thought crossed her mind. “Is Mr. Yeager good to you?” She had seen how Jonathan defended Sierra during the livestream, which reassured her. But after hearing from Dr. Zahn about Jonathan’s status in the scientific community, she also felt a bit concerned.

“He’s the best person I’ve ever met, Grandma.” Sierra paused before asking, “Grandma, if one day I decide to leave this place, would you be willing to go with me?” Jonathan’s words that day had stirred something in her. Once everything here was settled, she didn’t want to stay anymore. The world outside was vast; she wanted to see how far she could go.

“Wherever you go, Sierra, Grandma will go.” Lily patted Sierra’s hand, comforting her. With that reassurance, Sierra felt completely at ease.

In Maviston, the Xander family’s matter was resolved, and her grandmother’s health was improving. The only loose ends left were Kason and Shane.

Just as she was thinking about it, her phone rang. The number was unfamiliar. These past few days, she had been ignoring unknown calls, but this time, she chose to answer.

“Hello! Finally, you picked up, Sierra! I thought you were done using me and had blocked my number!”

It was Kason’s voice. Sierra raised an eyebrow. Blocked? She had no idea about that.

“Why would I?” Things went smoothly thanks to her help. “But Kason, you benefited as well, didn’t you? You must’ve been pretty busy these past few days.” With the Xander family in ruins and Xander Pharmaceuticals collapsing, the Richardson family was undoubtedly taking the opportunity to devour its assets. Once Kason fully absorbed Xander Pharmaceuticals, his family would rise to new heights, making them unmatched in Maviston.

Kason’s excited voice came through. “That’s right. I’ve gained plenty. But Sierra, the thing I want most is you.”

“When do you have time? Let’s meet.” Sierra’s tone was indifferent.

“And then?”

“I have something you’ll be interested in.” Kason’s voice was full of intrigue.

“Oh, I hope you won’t disappoint me.”

Shortly after, Kason’s car arrived, and Sierra got in.

“What surprise do you have for me?” She got straight to the point.

Kason didn’t answer right away; he merely glanced at her. Sierra was always like this around him: aloof, reserved, and elusive. And he loved that about her. Noticing her slightly swollen lips, he reached out to touch them, only to have his hand slapped away.

Sierra didn’t say a word; she just shot him a look. Kason immediately behaved, though he still muttered in dissatisfaction, “What’s so great about that bookworm?”

Sierra leaned back against the seat, a playful smirk on her lips. “Everything. He’s smart. And he’s good at everything.”

Hearing her say this, Kason felt an odd sense of competitiveness. “That’s because you haven’t tried me yet. I’m better.”

Sierra turned her head, giving him a sidelong glance. “If you’re willing to let me, use you however I want, I wouldn’t mind.”

“Pil!” Mateo Radeon, who was in another car, choked on his water. Jonathan shot him a look, and he quickly wiped up the mess, all while sneaking glances at Jonathan. No way—was the great Professor Yeager really this submissive? Getting played like that? Mateo felt like ants were crawling all over him. He was desperate to know more, but he didn’t dare ask.

Meanwhile, Jonathan’s expression was unreadable. Earlier, after handling school matters, he had gotten a call from Sierra, telling him not to follow because Kason wanted to meet her. He had been displeased; he didn’t want her anywhere near Kason. But Sierra insisted it was an opportunity to confirm something. In the end, he compromised and called in Mateo to set up a live feed of the meeting.

Even knowing Sierra was just playing along, Jonathan still felt annoyed. He wished she would talk to him the way she spoke to Kason. He could already picture the look in her eyes as she said those words. It was no wonder Kason was obsessed with her. Even Jonathan himself was struggling to hold back.
