Chapter 196: Unexpected Plus-Ones
As Sierra was about to move, Jonathan pressed her hand down. “No need to fuss; I ordered a meal from the restaurant, and they’ll deliver it soon.” He didn’t fancy cooking for Mateo, and the thought of Sierra doing it hadn’t even crossed his mind. He rarely had a proper meal himself.
Unaware of Jonathan’s thoughts, Sierra felt relieved upon hearing about the meal and then inquired about his friend. “Is it the guy who helped with this?” She pointed to the earrings she was wearing.
“Yeah, I have a few friends, and this time it’s him. Don’t worry about him later; don’t treat him like a guest. After we eat, he’ll be gone.” Jonathan’s tone was full of disdain for Mateo.
Though disdainful, Sierra knew their relationship was genuinely close; otherwise, Jonathan wouldn’t speak this way. Sierra smiled and nodded. Around noon, the doorbell rang, and Jonathan, guessing it was Mateo, went to answer it. He had just opened the door when he abruptly slammed it shut.
Startled by his action, Sierra quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, wrong door!” He replied just as the doorbell rang again, accompanied by voices outside.
“Mr. Yeager, we’re here!”
“Open up, Mr. Yeager!”
Sierra looked at Jonathan in confusion. Wasn’t it supposed to be just one person?
Jonathan looked equally helpless. “They all came!”
As he spoke, he opened the door, and indeed, there stood three tall, well-built, stylishly different, handsome men. Sierra paused for a moment, then instinctively greeted, “Hello!”
The three tall men smiled at Sierra and introduced themselves:
“Hello, I’m Maddox!”
“I’m Draven, a friend of Mr. Yeager!”
“Call me Stone!”
Just then, another figure squeezed past them, looking more disheveled than the neatly dressed trio, as if he had just been through a rough crowd.
“Mrs. Yeager, and me!”
“I’m Mateo, Jonathan’s best friend. Mrs. Yeager, we’ve met before!”
Despite the unexpected increase from one to four, Sierra warmly and politely welcomed them in. Their expressions changed slightly as they entered, and Sierra was puzzled until Mateo excitedly said, “Mrs. Yeager, it’s my first time here at Jon’s private place. You have no idea, Jon is really territorial; he never lets us even step in the doorway.” He was so excited that he accidentally blurted out their private nickname for Jonathan.
Initially nervous around the tall strangers, Sierra relaxed and smiled at Mateo’s words. As Mateo spoke, Stone and the others took a deliberate step back, clearly signaling their unfamiliarity with Mateo.
Mateo hadn’t realized his slip-up and was still caught up in his excitement, mixed with a bit of regret. If only he hadn’t boasted the day before; he could have been the only one among them to visit Jonathan’s house, but those bastards rushed to Maviston overnight, and he was ambushed by the trio as soon as he stepped out.
Outnumbered, defeat was inevitable, and he had to drag along three dead weights. He was still regretting this when a sinister voice rang out, “Jon?”
Mateo’s smile froze, and he twitched at the corner of his mouth, glancing towards the door, only to see Maddox and the others effectively blocking his escape route. He smoothly slid to his knees, “Jonathan, I was wrong!” But it was to no avail.
