Chapter 258: The Little Old Man and the Dog

That night, the two of them were unusually wild and in sync, as if trying to make up for everything they’d missed these past few days. The result? Sierra could barely keep her eyes open when she got to school the next morning. She kept yawning nonstop.

“Didn’t sleep well?” Autumn glanced at her.

“Yeah,” Sierra nodded, a little guilty. “My sleep’s been off lately.”

The truth was, she’d passed out the moment she hit the bed—but she only got a little over two hours of sleep. She had no idea where Jonathan got all that energy from. He somehow kept going until four in the morning. Every single time he said, “This is the last round,” and every single time he lied. Men really can’t be trusted—especially in bed. Jonathan was the perfect example.

Autumn didn’t think too much of it, though. She hadn’t been sleeping well either, but for a very different reason.

“What are we going to do? The professor’s coming today.” Just saying it made her wince. She still hadn’t finished the assignment he gave before he left. She could already imagine how badly she was going to get chewed out. It wasn’t just her either. Even the usually unbothered Qinghao looked a little tense, which made Sierra nervous too. This professor sounded terrifying. But Jonathan had never said that. Every time he mentioned his teacher, he’d just call him a “chill old man.”

Just as she was thinking that, a thin, spry little old man walked in, full of energy. Sierra had never met the professor before, but from how her seniors snapped to attention, she could instantly tell who he was. Professor Martin looked a bit stern. He swept his gaze around the room before landing on Sierra. Her breath hitched slightly. Then he said, “You the girl that punk brought in?”

As he spoke, he gave her a once-over from head to toe. Then he muttered, “What a waste.”

Sierra pressed her lips together. She wasn’t surprised. Lots of people thought she wasn’t good enough for Mr. Yaeger. But then Professor Martin added, “Your eyesight must be shot. Go get yourself a decent pair of glasses. How’d a sweet girl like you end up with that little bastard?”

Not just Sierra—everyone froze. Wait, was the professor talking about Mr. Yaeger? Autumn couldn’t help herself. “But Professor, didn’t you always say Jonathan was the most talented student you’ve ever taught?”

Professor Martin rolled his eyes and snorted. “Having a brain doesn’t mean you’ve got good character.”

Everyone looked like their world had just been turned upside down. Especially Erwin, who had practically idolized Jonathan. He looked like he wanted to argue, but didn’t dare go against the professor. So he turned to Sierra, hoping she, as Jonathan’s girlfriend, would defend him.

But all Sierra did was give a weird little smile.

Seeing her reaction, Professor Martin knew right away that Sierra had already figured out what kind of person Jonathan really was. He clicked his tongue.

“What an idiot,” he muttered.

Sierra cleared her throat and said, “Professor.”

Just that one word made Professor Martin visibly more relaxed. His face softened as he looked at her.

“At least you’ve got some respect for your elders. Way better than that little punk.”

Sierra couldn’t help smiling. The professor was actually pretty great. No wonder Jonathan always spoke so highly of him. Meanwhile, the rest of them were completely thrown off. They were starting to think the Mr. Yaeger the professor was talking about wasn’t the same person in their version.
