Chapter 10
Back then, she spent hours daily training, studying the Everhart family team's tactics, aiming to surpass them in the upcoming match. Evelina, a naturally gifted gamer, was a main roster player, while Lemira served only as a substitute. Lemira cherished battling alongside her brothers, their family bond undisturbed by outsiders. She became so engrossed in match preparation that she neglected her exams. But just as they secured a crucial victory, her brothers paused the game, benching her for Evelina. They won the tournament, becoming national champions. Her brothers and Evelina stood on the winner's podium, their victory overshadowing her contributions. Evelina, holding her trophy, smiled blissfully between her brothers.
Lemira watched the televised victory, her heart aching.
"Why are you crying? This isn't a soap opera," a voice said.
Snapping back to reality, Lemira wiped away tears, her past life overwhelming her. A man with slender, attractive fingers handed her a piece of paper. Looking up at him, slightly embarrassed, she asked, "Do you play this game?"
"Your focus should be on your exams, not gaming!" Orion replied, leaning back in his chair, eyes fixed on the game.
Lemira confidently declared, "SkyBlaze will lose." SkyBlaze was Alaric's team.
Orion smiled slightly. "Seems you have a good eye."
As expected, SkyBlaze lost decisively. Seeing Alaric's furious reaction—smashing his keyboard—on the livestream brought Lemira unexpected satisfaction. Happy to see Alaric's defeat, she resolved to stop playing for the Langstons, determined to become a professional gamer, earn money for college, and achieve financial independence. Tired of her allowance being threatened and being forced to sacrifice a top university for Evelina, she craved freedom from the Langstons' control. Esports wasn't yet lucrative, but the rise of live streaming offered professional gamers another income stream. With her past life's experience, this seemed the easiest path to financial freedom. Lemira made her decision secretly.
After the livestream ended, Orion glanced at her, approached, and removed her IV needle. He pressed a cotton swab to her hand. "Your medicine is on the table. You can leave after taking it."
"Thanks!" Lemira took the medicine and left the infirmary.
A young man entered, saying casually, "Orion, it's rare to see you playing the hero. This girl has quite the reputation at school. She's a hot topic on the forum. Don't get fooled."
Orion, appearing more relaxed, replied nonchalantly, "Why haven't you left yet?"
"I'm curious. Why are you a school doctor here, even missing Matt's game? He was so distracted looking for you, nearly blindsided by that Langston boy. Tell me, and I'll leave."
Orion removed his mask and rolled up his sleeves, revealing an ugly scar. Thaddeus Draven's expression darkened. "After all these years, you still can't let go? That accident wasn't your fault! Wait, don't tell me this girl is…"
"Shut up!" Orion closed his eyes, ignoring him.
