Chapter 138  The young folks these days were all about shaking up the workplace!  Ethan was seething with indignation, “Newbie, so arrogant. Did you get all those files sorted out that I assigned you yesterday?”  “Nope.”  Lemira gave him a cool look, “That’s not my job.”  “You’re in the tech department; how is that not your job?”  “My job is to clean up messes, firewalls included.”  Lemira’s tone was frosty. At this point, she couldn’t be bothered to pretend anymore. All she wanted was to get the firewall issue sorted out; the last thing she desired was to work here.  than had probably never seen a newbie so bold, talking back to a supervisor on her second day! He shook with rage, “I’m going straight to the manager to have you fired!”  “Be my guest.”  Lemira didn’t even bother with him, continuing to type away. Her slender fingers danced across the keyboard, streams of code filling  the screen.  Soon enough, Ethan stormed out of the office, shooting Lemira a furious glance, “Don’t get too cocky. If you can’t handle the firewall issue, you’re out of here. I’m really curious to see what you’re capable of.”  “Don’t worry, I’ve got more skills than you’ll ever have,” Lemira didn’t hold back.  As Evelina arrived at the company, she still flaunted her designer labels, greeting everyone with the poise of Langston heiress. Seeing the code on Lemira’s screen, she had an ominous feeling. If Lemira managed to fix the firewall issue, wouldn’t that make Lucian favor her even more?  A calculating look crossed Evelina’s eyes; she wouldn’t let Lemira win. Her gaze fell on Ethan, and an idea sparked.  Lemira worked a whole day to finish coding, not even having lunch break.  She rubbed her neck, hoping the test would go well tomorrow so she wouldn’t have to come back.  She really didn’t want to get entangled with the Langstons any further.  As Lemira packed up to leave, Ethan taunted, “Tech department never leaves on time. Newbie, don’t you know the rules? If you’re taking the company’s money, you should be contributing.”  Lemira kept to her own path, “You seem to excel at overtime, yet the firewall issue remains. Lack of skill means no amount of overtime will help.”  “Brat, who are you calling incompetent? Why don’t you try?”  Lemira’s hand flew in a slap, “Men like you, incompetent and harassing female colleagues, do you ever look in the mirror? You think you’re worth anything?”  The whole office turned to look.  Ethan, used to throwing his weight around, hadn’t expected a newbie to strike him. He reached out to hit back when two hands grabbed his arm, “Who allowed you to hit her?”  Lemira looked up to see Alaric, surprised.  Normally, Alaric would just stand by and watch her take a hit. It had always been like this in the past life.  With Alaric’s arrival, Ethan immediately backed down, “Mr. Langston, I was just teaching the newbie a lesson.”  “This is a company, not a place for brawls,” Alaric’s voice was cold; after all, Lemira’s his sister.  Normally, if anyone was to scold or hit her, it would be him.
