Chapter 211
Lemira heard Alaric’s voice but didn’t bother to turn. She had nothing left to say to the Langston family. She slid into the passenger seat as Alaric tapped on the window. “Lemira, don’t take Asher’s words to heart.”
Lemira’s gaze was icy. “I never take insignificant people seriously.”
A sharp pain pierced Alaric’s heart. He stammered, “Lemira, Asher’s always been proud. You embarrassed him publicly; that’s why he’s angry. We’re still family, aren’t we? Does it have to end like this?”
Lemira chuckled. “Family? I severed ties long ago. We’re strangers now. Let’s keep it that way.” Orion accelerated, leaving Alaric no chance to respond.
Watching the car disappear, Alaric slumped to the ground. He opened his phone to message Lemira, only to find he’d already been deleted. Regret washed over him, remembering their earlier conversation.
Asher stormed out, furious. “Where’s Lemira? How dare she speak to the media like that? I’ll teach her a lesson!”
“Asher, she’s gone. We failed her, and that’s why she left. We owe her,” someone replied.
“Idiot! Still taking her side? She’s become arrogant and defiant because you and Lucian spoiled her! She’s relying on that school doctor now? I’ll have someone crush him! A mere school doctor!”
Asher was beside himself.
Seeing Asher’s retreating figure, Alaric frantically called Lucian. “Lucian, it’s bad. Lemira won the city’s outstanding young achiever award today, but she publicly disowned us. Asher’s going after her and that school doctor.”
Lucian leaped out of bed. “I’m on my way. Try to calm Asher down. We can’t let him hurt Lemira.”
The attending doctor protested, “Mr. Langston, you’re still under treatment! You can’t leave.”
Lucian ripped out his IV and left the hospital, clothes unchanged. He called Lemira, but she didn’t answer. Clutching his stomach, pain from his illness intensified. Lemmy, where are you? Asher’s furious, he’s lost his mind. Don’t go back to the apartment.
Lemira had just exited the car when she saw Lucian’s message. She frowned. “As expected, they’ll never understand.”
Orion, noticing the message, grew cold. “Planning to leave?”
“No. If it’s going to end, it should end completely.” Lemira seemed resolute. Looking at Orion, she declared, “I can handle this myself.”
“Are you sure?”
Orion’s expression was grim. The Langstons were truly relentless.
Lemira’s gaze was determined. “Yes. If they remain delusional, it’s time they learned what respect means.” She already had a plan. “I need to use the computer in the study.”
Lemira sat down and hacked into the Langston Group’s website. In her past life, an internal technician had betrayed Asher, leaking secrets and nearly bankrupting the company. She had been the one to fix the system vulnerabilities and expose the traitor, saving Asher from ruin.
