Chapter 269  After Lemira sent over the data, she tentatively asked. [Can you fix it?]  [Yes, but this video involves criminal activity. I’ll have to hand it over to you in person.]  Lemira thought for a moment and then readily agreed. (No problem. When can you have it ready?]  [By Saturday at the latest.]  [See you Saturday, then.]  Seeing the promise of repair, Lemira couldn’t help but smile. Once she got her hands on that video, Evelina’s days of bliss were over. She just couldn’t let this slide!  On the other side, Orion was poring over the data on his computer, sensing something odd about the whole situation.  non, you think MM could be Lemon?”  “Why do you say that?”  “I just heard about this freshman at Orvin University who got slandered with some nasty rumors. She locked the bullies‘ phones up so tight, not even the CompSci professors could crack her code. Cool, right?”  Orion narrowed his eyes, “Don’t tell me that was Lemira?”  “Exactly her! That’s why I’m thinking she might be MM.”  Orion hadn’t realized Lemira was capable of such feats. But if she was indeed MM, it wasn’t surprising given everything he had taught  her.  He glanced at Thaddeus, “Let’s get to work. We need to have that video fixed by Friday.”  Whether MM was Lemira or not, he must fix this footage.  As Friday rolled around, Lemira got up and then left her dorm to meet O and retrieve the repaired video.  But as she approached the university gates, Lucian stopped her, thrusting a designer gift bag into her arms.  “Lemmy, I heard about the trouble Susanna caused you at the bar. If you’re looking to take this further, I’ll hire the best lawyer for you.”  “Are you sure?”  Lemira looked at Lucian with a half–smile, “And what if this involves Evelina too? Would your lawyer still pursue it?”  Lucian hesitated for a moment before responding, “Lemmy, I’ve talked to Evelina. You’re aware of Susanna’s history with bullying, right? Evelina was in a tough spot too and couldn’t help you then. But she would never harm you together with them!”  Hearing Lucian’s explanation, Lemira wasn’t surprised in the least. She let out a laugh, though her eyes remained cold.  She tossed the gift bag to Lucian, “The Langstons always manage to disgust me!”  “I know you don’t like Evelina, but the surveillance from that night was deleted. There’s no evidence linking Evelina to what happened, so we can’t just accuse her without proof.”  “Looking for proof? You’ll have it soon enough.”  Lemira’s gaze turned icy as she hopped into a cab and drove off, leaving Lucian with the gift bag on the ground and a bitter smile. Caught between two sides, he couldn’t outright accuse Evelina without evidence.  “Lucian, I overslept and missed your call, so I’m late. I know where Lemira’s dorm is; I can take you to her, but she might not talk to you.” Evelina noticed the gift bag on the ground, “Did you already meet her? What did she say about the bar incident that night?”  Evelina actually felt a twinge of guilt. But with the Sinclair family having deleted the footage, as long as she denied everything, no one could pin anything on her.  Tugging at his tie, Lucian casually mentioned, “She said she found evidence from that night at the bar.”  What? Evelina panicked. That wasn’t possible. Hadn’t the Sinclairs deleted the surveillance footage? They had made sure to cover all  tracks.  Without further ado, Lucian turned to leave. Evelina hurried after him, “Lucian, are you chasing Lemira? Let me come with you. I’m worried she might do something drastic.”  Lucian gave Evelina a long look before relenting, “Get in.”  Evelina’s heart leapt. She needed to know what evidence Lemira had found to prepare her next move.
