Chapter 271  Lemira stood by the computer, her eyes icy as she watched Lucian.  She looked scornful, “Seen it clearly? This is the proof you wanted!”  For all these years, she had been schemed against and slandered by Evelina, never able to catch her red handed.  It had happened so often it became like the story of the boy who cried wolf. Her brothers stopped believing her!  Lemira admitted, at this moment, she felt a rush of vengeful satisfaction.  After watching the surveillance footage, especially the part where Evelina was caught spraying something at Lemira, Lucian felt as if he’d been hit in the head.  He could barely stand, turning with difficulty to face Evelina. Struggling to find words, Lucian could hardly believe his eyes. How would Evelina dare?  His gaze was formidable, “Evelina, the evidence is right in front of you. What excuse could you possibly have now?”  He hadn’t expected Evelina to actually harm Lemira!  Evelina turned pale with fear. She hadn’t anticipated Lemira could recover the surveillance footage! It’s impossible. How did Lemira manage it?  Now, how could she explain herself? Stammering, she replied, “L–Lucian, I–I was forced by Susanna.”  “You still dare to lie!”  222  Lucian’s slap landed hard on Evelina’s face, “I gave you a chance earlier. Why didn’t you speak up?”  It was only when Lemira produced the surveillance footage that Evelina confessed! It proved Evelina had been lying all along! Evelina, reeling from the slap, was terrified by the look on Lucian’s face. She couldn’t afford to lose the trust of the Langston brothers! Out of fear, Evelina knelt down, “I–I was just too scared. I can’t stand against Susanna, I had to do as she said!” “Evelina, I don’t even know what’s true and what’s false coming from you now!”  Only then did Lucian realize Evelina’s true nature. All those bad things Evelina had said about Lemira, were they all lies? Had Lemira been falsely accused and maligned by Evelina all along?  Thinking this broke Lucian’s heart. What kind of life had his sister been living these years?  Evelina, desperate, pleaded from her knees, “Lucian, I was really forced. You know how Susanna is, even investigated for bullying a classmate to death. I was afraid she’d bully me!”  “You’re scared of Susan  bullving you, s  you let Susanna do that to Lemmy instead?”  Lucian’s question was almost hysterical, “Evelina, since the day we brought you into the Langston family, have we ever treated you unfairly? Whatever Lemmy had, you had too! Why would you do this?”  They were supposed to be a family. Why would Evelina hurt Lemira?  Evelina, being brutally cussed out, clung to Lucian’s legs, “I was forced this time, brother, you have to believe me!”  “Get away!”  Lucian kicked Evelina away, his voice filled with disgust, “Don’t call me brother. You’re not worthy!”  Watching this scene, Lemira couldn’t help but clap her hands in delight. It’s brilliant! She’d been waiting for this day for so long. Lucian, looking at Lemira with extreme guilt, said, “Lemmy, I’m really so sorry. It’s all my fault.”  He truly realized his mistakes this time.  Seeing Lucian’s remorse, Lemira felt only irony. Her voice was cold, “But I don’t accept your apology.”  “I know the harm you’ve suffered these years. I don’t ask for forgiveness, just a chance to make it right.”  Orion, unable to stand the spectacle, scoffed coldly, “Since Lemira left the Langston mansion, she’s been living a life ten times better. Return to the Langston family and suffer? Wishful thinking!”
