Chapter 285  After Lemira left, Evelina thought back to the humiliating scene, and the tears just started flowing.  That witch, Lemira!  Evelina regretted not pushing her off the edge when she had the chance, and couldn’t believe her leverage was held by Lemira.  Evelina couldn’t dissipate her frustration. Right then, her phone buzzed. It was Alaric calling, “Eve, I’m at school. Can we talk? Where are you?”  Through her tears, Evelina responded, “Alaric, I’m on the rooftop. Lemmy wanted to meet here. She wanted to end me. I was terrified!”  “I’ll be right there.”  After hanging up, Evelina made herself look even more disheveled to gain Alaric’s sympathy.  anwhile, Lemira was taking her sweet time walking down the stairs. But as soon as she reached the ground floor, she saw Alaric rushing over, looking extremely worried.  Lemira raised an eyebrow. The fake angel’s knight in shining armor arrived quicker than expected.  When Alaric saw Lemira, he stopped dead in his tracks. Her indifferent expression struck him as cold and unfamiliar.  Without giving Alaric a second glance, Lemira continued on her way. As they passed each other, it was as if they were complete strangers.  Feeling a heavy weight in his heart, Alaric couldn’t help but turn around, “Lemira!”  Lemira didn’t look back, acting as if she hadn’t heard him.  Alaric, unable to let it go, followed her, “Lemira, wait! Eve just called me, saying you wanted to meet her on the rooftop and push her off?”  Lemira barely lifted her eyelids, “Are you accusing me?”  Noticing his tone was a bit harsh, Alaric realized he had been unintentionally confrontational due to Lemira’s previous disregard. He softened his voice, “I’m just trying to understand why you’d do something like that. Eve’s supposed to be like a sister to you.” “Evelina doesn’t deserve to be called family. She belongs behind bars!”  Alaric was choked on the words, “But causing harm intentionally could also land you in jail.”  “Do you have any proof of that?”  “What kind of proof is needed?”  “Oh, so you don’t have any proof. Then why were you asking me for it earlier?”  Lemira’s gaze was penetrating, “Evelina harmed me, and I need provide proof. But when she accuse me of harming her, no proof needed, is that it?”  “Lemira, that’s not what I meant.”  “Then what did you mean?”  Seeing Alaric’s confidence fade into guilt and that eventually he became silence, Lemira coldly said, “So, spare me the regretful act, trying to mend fences with me. It’s disgusting!”  Alaric was speechless in the face of Lemira’s rebuke. He realized how biased he had been.  Watching her walk away, Alaric noticed his impulsiveness this time and decided he wouldn’t confront Lemira like this again.  He then headed to the rooftop. Evelina ran into Alaric’s arms, sobbing, “Alaric, I almost died!”  “What exactly did Lemira say?”  “She thinks I had something to do with the car accident, so she picked on me. But it was the Sinclairs, I have nothing to do with it.” Evelina would never admit she led all this. She was determined to shift the blame onto the Sinclairs!  That way, no one would suspect her, nor discover the truth about her father, who was supposedly dead.  Alaric, recalling Lemira’s words, was momentarily distracted.  “Alaric, you have to stand up for me. I almost died, really.”  L  Alaric returned to the moment, “It’s not like you were harmed, right? Lemira was just blowing off steam.
