Chapter 29
Lemira stood firm, her mind set on leaving the mansion permanently.
Alaric scoffed. โFine, get out then! Iโd love to see how well you do without the Langston fortune backing you!โ
Lucian intervened, โThatโs enough, Alaric.โ
โLucian, Lemira was the one who wanted to leave first! Sheโs turning her back on our family!โ
Alaricโs eyes were bloodshot; his anger was palpable. He had already swallowed his pride, yet Lemira still wanted to go. Was she waiting for him, her brother, to beg for forgiveness?
Evelina quickly interjected, โAlaric, calm down. Lemmyโs joking. If she doesnโt want to tutor me, itโs fine. We have a private tutor, and Iโm perfectly happy.โ
Alaric glared fiercely at Lemira. โLook how considerate Eve is, unlike you. Have you ever reflected on your actions, Mira?โ
โAlaric, letโs go. I need to ask you about some game moves.โ
Evelina glanced at Lucian. โWeโll be going then, Lucian.โ
โGo ahead.โ
Evelinaโs understanding nature softened Lucian slightly. She wasn't originally a Langston, yet she sacrificed her grades for team training and always diffused family conflicts. Compared to Lemira, Evelina seemed infinitely more sensible.
Lucian looked at Lemira with disappointment. โDonโt take Alaricโs words to heart. Youโre still a Langston.โ
Lemira replied calmly, โI think itโs best if I move out.โ
Lucianโs expression darkened. โLemmy, what do we need to do to return to those happy days?โ
The way things used to be? Lemira felt a wave of fatigue. She lacked the energy to respond; only disappointment remained.
With a forced smile, Lemira said, โThatโs not possible.โ
After her curt reply, she went to her room. She wouldn't, as in her previous life, give her all only to be ignored and abandoned. Never again.
Following this incident, Lemira and her brothers entered a period of strained silence. She, however, relished the peace, free from their interference.
Soon, the teamโs revival match arrived, scheduled for Saturday. Evelina had been absent from school for days, claiming illness, but Lemira knew she was preparing for the competition. Lemiraโs own routine remained unchanged.
Lucian approached her, offering a match ticket. โThereโs a game this afternoon. You should come and support them.โ
Lemira responded indifferently, โGot it.โ
Her unconcern, especially compared to Evelinaโs dedication, disheartened Lucian further.
โLemmy, one day youโll understand we only mean well.โ
Lucian left without further comment. Lemiraโs disgust at his words ruined her appetite. She put down her utensils; the desire to move out intensified.
She picked up the ticket, deciding to go. She wanted to witness Alaricโs teamโs failure firsthand without her contributions. She photographed the ticket and messaged Orion: [Iโm going to the match this afternoon; wonโt be online.] They planned to game together that weekend.
Orion replied instantly: [Okay.]
As he replied, Thaddeus tried to peek at the conversation. โLet me see! Why so secretive?โ
Orion glanced at him. โNothing better to do, huh?โ
โWhy so serious? You could compensate her for your guilt. Why stick around her constantly?โ
