Chapter 29

Lemira stood firm, her mind set on leaving the mansion permanently.

Alaric scoffed. โ€œFine, get out then! Iโ€™d love to see how well you do without the Langston fortune backing you!โ€

Lucian intervened, โ€œThatโ€™s enough, Alaric.โ€

โ€œLucian, Lemira was the one who wanted to leave first! Sheโ€™s turning her back on our family!โ€

Alaricโ€™s eyes were bloodshot; his anger was palpable. He had already swallowed his pride, yet Lemira still wanted to go. Was she waiting for him, her brother, to beg for forgiveness?

Evelina quickly interjected, โ€œAlaric, calm down. Lemmyโ€™s joking. If she doesnโ€™t want to tutor me, itโ€™s fine. We have a private tutor, and Iโ€™m perfectly happy.โ€

Alaric glared fiercely at Lemira. โ€œLook how considerate Eve is, unlike you. Have you ever reflected on your actions, Mira?โ€

โ€œAlaric, letโ€™s go. I need to ask you about some game moves.โ€

Evelina glanced at Lucian. โ€œWeโ€™ll be going then, Lucian.โ€

โ€œGo ahead.โ€

Evelinaโ€™s understanding nature softened Lucian slightly. She wasn't originally a Langston, yet she sacrificed her grades for team training and always diffused family conflicts. Compared to Lemira, Evelina seemed infinitely more sensible.

Lucian looked at Lemira with disappointment. โ€œDonโ€™t take Alaricโ€™s words to heart. Youโ€™re still a Langston.โ€

Lemira replied calmly, โ€œI think itโ€™s best if I move out.โ€

Lucianโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œLemmy, what do we need to do to return to those happy days?โ€

The way things used to be? Lemira felt a wave of fatigue. She lacked the energy to respond; only disappointment remained.

With a forced smile, Lemira said, โ€œThatโ€™s not possible.โ€

After her curt reply, she went to her room. She wouldn't, as in her previous life, give her all only to be ignored and abandoned. Never again.

Following this incident, Lemira and her brothers entered a period of strained silence. She, however, relished the peace, free from their interference.

Soon, the teamโ€™s revival match arrived, scheduled for Saturday. Evelina had been absent from school for days, claiming illness, but Lemira knew she was preparing for the competition. Lemiraโ€™s own routine remained unchanged.

Lucian approached her, offering a match ticket. โ€œThereโ€™s a game this afternoon. You should come and support them.โ€

Lemira responded indifferently, โ€œGot it.โ€

Her unconcern, especially compared to Evelinaโ€™s dedication, disheartened Lucian further.

โ€œLemmy, one day youโ€™ll understand we only mean well.โ€

Lucian left without further comment. Lemiraโ€™s disgust at his words ruined her appetite. She put down her utensils; the desire to move out intensified.

She picked up the ticket, deciding to go. She wanted to witness Alaricโ€™s teamโ€™s failure firsthand without her contributions. She photographed the ticket and messaged Orion: [Iโ€™m going to the match this afternoon; wonโ€™t be online.] They planned to game together that weekend.

Orion replied instantly: [Okay.]

As he replied, Thaddeus tried to peek at the conversation. โ€œLet me see! Why so secretive?โ€

Orion glanced at him. โ€œNothing better to do, huh?โ€

โ€œWhy so serious? You could compensate her for your guilt. Why stick around her constantly?โ€
