Chapter 3

As Lemira entered, all eyes turned to her. With a stoic expression, she remained unfazed by the attention. Her simple T-shirt was overshadowed by lavish accessories: a delicate golden tiara, an emerald necklace, jade and gold bracelets, and a large pink diamond ring.

Laughter rippled through the room.

โ€œMan, Lemiraโ€™s so tacky, flaunting all those accessories like a nouveau riche.โ€

โ€œI bet sheโ€™s showing off those expensive pieces to make Evelina feel bad.โ€

Unfazed, Lemira approached Evelina and said calmly, โ€œCongratulations on officially becoming a Langston today.โ€

In her previous life, Evelinaโ€™s arrival had marked the beginning of a nightmare. Despite her efforts to please her brothers, they all favored Evelina, with Lucian even wishing she were their biological sister. This time, Lemira vowed not to cling to such meaningless familial bonds.

Jealousy flickered in Evelinaโ€™s heart, though masked by a composed expression. She shrank back slightly, replying carefully, โ€œLemmy, I know youโ€™re upset, but donโ€™t worry, I wonโ€™t compete with you for our brothersโ€™ affection. After all, Iโ€™ll always be an outsider, and youโ€™re their real sister. How could I ever compare to you?โ€

Her eyes reddened. Lemiraโ€™s lips curled into a sneer. What a delicate wrench playing the innocent victim, she thought. In her last life, sheโ€™d been fooled by Evelinaโ€™s harmless facade until the very end.

Caspian interjected quickly, โ€œEve, donโ€™t cry. Who said youโ€™re an outsider? From today on, youโ€™re my true sister.โ€

Evelina lowered her eyelids, concealing a flash of triumph.

Lucian presented a box. โ€œEve, this is a gift for you.โ€

Evelina feigned surprise. โ€œLucian, isnโ€™t this supposed to be Lemmyโ€™s gift? I couldnโ€™t possibly accept it!โ€

Lemira wasnโ€™t surprised to see the limited-edition collectible inside. In her past life, Lucian had โ€œkindlyโ€ decided to give Evelina the long-awaited item as an apology.

Lucian insisted, โ€œJust take it. Itโ€™s what she owes you.โ€

Caspian, discontent, remarked, โ€œLemira, even though Eve isnโ€™t holding a grudge about you pushing her into the pool earlier, and Lucian has given her a gift on your behalf, whereโ€™s your gesture of apology?โ€

Lemira nodded. โ€œI know, so I brought gifts.โ€ She removed her jewelry and placed each piece on a tray.

โ€œThis antique tiara is from Asher.โ€ โ€œThis emerald pendant is from Lucian.โ€ โ€œThis century-old ginseng is from Rowan.โ€ โ€œThis rare pink diamond ring is from Caspian.โ€ โ€œThis jade bracelet is from Evander.โ€ โ€œThis gold trophy is from Alaric.โ€

Placing them on the tray, she added, โ€œThese are all very important to me, and as an apology, I believe they show my sincerity.โ€ Sheโ€™d anticipated Caspianโ€™s question. Since Evelina joined the Langston family, her brothers hadnโ€™t given her substantial gifts, only these valuables. She knew they would eventually be re-gifted to Evelina under various pretexts.

Caspianโ€™s face froze. These were Lemiraโ€™s most cherished possessions! How could she?

Lucian, lips pressed, asked, โ€œWhat are you implying?โ€

โ€œLucian, Iโ€™ve said these are part of my apology. Caspian, do you think itโ€™s enough?โ€ Lemiraโ€™s demeanor remained utterly indifferent.

Evelina, surprised, wondered what Lemira was planning. Was this a strategic concession?

Evelina quickly spoke, โ€œLemmy, these gifts were given to you by our brothers; theyโ€™re too precious, I canโ€™t accept them.โ€

Caspian, furious, declared, โ€œExactly, these were gifts for you; how could you give them away?โ€

Evelinaโ€™s smile faltered. She bit her lip. โ€œRight, Lemmy, Iโ€™m just an outsider; how could I deserve such gifts?โ€

Realizing his mistake, Caspian hurriedly explained, โ€œEve, thatโ€™s not what I meant. Iโ€™ll choose another gift for you. How could I let you accept a gift thatโ€™s already been given to someone else?โ€

Evelinaโ€™s smile returned. โ€œThank you, Caspian.โ€

Caspianโ€™s heart melted. This is the demeanor of a sweet sister, he thought.
