Chapter 323
Lemira locked eyes with Asher, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. She said, โLetโs wait until the event is over. No rush, especially with all these eyes on us. A copycat canโt turn the tables.โ
โWatch your words, Lemira?โ
He couldnโt believe she just called him a copycat! Asher was fuming. This wasnโt even his original plan; he had merely adapted Lemiraโs idea on the fly.
Lemira just scoffed mockingly and returned to her seat among her colleagues. The presentation continued, leaving the folks from Maple Group utterly astounded by Lemiraโs performance. The man who had doubted Lemira was now sheepishly hanging his head low.
The manager hesitantly spoke up, โLemira, that Mr. Langston is your brother after all. Are you really planning to pursue this to the end?โ
It turned out Lemira was the affluent Ms. Lemira, yet so hardworking and intelligent. She left no room for the average Joel. Lemira replied coldly, โIโve already cut ties. He and I have nothing to do with each other.โ
The manager, trying to appeal to her familial ties, added, โBut heโs still your brother.โ
โYeah, and heโs loaded. Itโs a shame to cut ties, isnโt it?โ Everyone dreams of having a wealthy brother!
Lemira grew impatient. โI donโt need your advice. As the projectโs lead engineer, itโs my duty to see this through. Our companyโs work was plagiarized, and I will get to the bottom of it!โ
Lemiraโs tone was assertive, leaving the manager no choice but to drop the subject. Then, Lemiraโs phone buzzed. She glanced at the message: [Lemira, this issue with Asher isnโt his fault. Could you please let it go? Consider it a favor to me.]
Tch! A trace of scorn flashed in Lemiraโs eyes. So, he was begging her? He made it sound so pitiful, so reluctant. Lemira met Alaricโs gaze, her expression cold as she deleted the message without even considering a reply.
Alaric, seeing her reaction, knew she hadnโt agreed. Asher turned to Evelina and Alaric, โYou better figure out how to explain this to me!โ His meticulously prepared project was utterly overshadowed by Lemira! He couldnโt swallow this defeat. If it werenโt for Evelinaโs stolen ideas, none of this would have happened!
After the meeting, the director spoke briefly before concluding the session. But nobody left; the scandal of the Langston Groupโs plagiarism was yet unresolved. Everyone was eager to see the outcome. Lemira watched as Asher, with a stern face, stood up and walked out with Evelina and Alaric.
Outside. Asher was visibly irritated, โWhat are we going to do about this mess? Did you two not realize Lemira set us up?โ
Imbeciles! Evelina, tearfully, explained, โAsher, I was outsmarted by Lemira.โ
Alaric, glaring at Evelina, retorted, โIt was clearly you who got played. I should have stopped you when I realized, instead of being persuaded to join you in this mess!โ
Evelinaโs hands trembled. Her voice quivered, โAsher, I was blinded by the desire to see you succeed, especially with all the effort youโve been putting in, and the pressure from the Sinclairs. I thought if Lemira failed, sheโd realize how tough it is out there and come back to the Langston family. Iโm sorry, Asher. It wasnโt intentional on mine or Alaricโs part.โ
Chapter 324
Asher, frustrated, adjusted his tie. โWhat am I supposed to say to you two? Think of a way to fix it!!โ
Alaric, surprised, glanced at Evelina before saying, โAsher, this wasnโt my doing! Evelina was the one who snooped on Lemiraโs computer!โ
โItโs all my fault, I did it. Alaric has nothing to do with it.โ Evelina shrank back, looking utterly forlorn.
Asher glanced at Evelina, then turned to Alaric with dissatisfaction. โYouโre her brother. How can you just wash your hands of the affair and let Eve take all the heat?โ
