Chapter 385
Lemira watched the scene unfold with an icy demeanor. She spoke up, โDid you catch that, Mr. Asher? I donโt owe you anything. Those trinkets and what have youโIโve given practically all of them to Evelina. I didnโt keep a single one.โ
โBut I bought you that vintage golden tiara! It was from my first big payday after starting my business, bought especially for you.โ
โRight, but did you forget? I compensated Evelina with it, as a peace offering.โ
Asher was momentarily stuck, as if realizing there was indeed such an incident. He opened his mouth, wanting to counter Lemiraโs statement. But upon reflecting on the years gone by, aside from that golden tiara, he couldnโt recall buying Lemira any other significant gifts. For a moment, Asher was at a loss for words.
Lemiraโs voice dripped with sarcasm, โSo, Mr. Asher, have you decided what price youโre willing to pay?โ
Asher was no longer able to morally bind Lemira. He said stiffly, โHow much do you want?โ
โIt depends on what you think itโs worth. These are mostly your competitors or past enemies. With this data, you could gain a lot more.โ
After Lemira finished, she looked at Asher. Finally, Asher spoke, โOne hundred thousand.โ
โTwo hundred thousand.โ
โLemira, donโt be ridiculous! Is this stuff even worth two hundred thousand?โ
Lemira lightly retorted, โThen forget about it.โ
With that, she casually tossed the USB drive into the trash can, as those files were of no use to her anyway. Seeing Lemira discard the USB drive like trash, Asher was infuriated. Was she really dismissing one hundred thousand dollars just like that?
Begrudgingly, Asher conceded, โFine, two hundred thousand it is.โ
โTransfer the funds now, money for goods.โ
Lemira was straightforward about it. After all, the data was useless to her; if it could serve to irritate Asher and bring in some cash, it was a win-win. Asher, however, was far from pleased.
Reluctantly, he glanced at his secretary, โHave finance transfer the funds to her!โ
The secretary tentatively suggested, โBoss, maybe we should ask Ms. Lemira to help fix our system. After all, weโve had no luck with anyone else.โ
โDid I ask for your opinion?โ
Asherโs pride was hurt; he didnโt want to ask Lemira for help.
Lucian chimed in, โAsher, youโve always been wary of outsiders, concerned theyโd steal company data. Why not trust Lemmy with the task? At least sheโs family.โ
โCut it out, whoโs family with you guys? Donโt count on me Iโmโฆโ

Cemira flatly refused, leaving no room for negotiation. Asher turned to Lucian, โYou heard her, sheโs not interested. Stop embarrassing yourself.โ Lucian gave a wistful smile towards Lemira, his eyes filled with hope.
Lemira remained unyielding, โI wonโt agree.โ
Lucian persisted, โWe could match the external rate for your services, name your price.โ
Lemira was somewhat exasperated, โMr. Lucian, are you hard of hearing? Didnโt you catch what I just said?โ Lucian was about to continue when Hogan intervened, โBoss, if Ms. Lemira doesnโt want to, letโs not push her.โ Lucian glanced at Hogan; his intention was to keep Lemira close to the Langston family, to maintain some semblance of connection.
Hogan sighed, โBoss, we can always pay for the right person. Didnโt the big boss mention hiring an expert from the dark web? They should be able to fix it.โ
