Chapter 410
โDid you swing by the hospital to check on Lucian?โ
โSort of. Iโm gonna grab a change of clothes.โ
Lemira turned and headed back to her bedroom, hoping to shake off the dayโs events. Meanwhile, Orion was waiting outside when Lemiraโs phone began to ring. Peering at the caller ID, he saw it was Matthew and answered, โI bet youโre home by now. Got something pretty big to talk about.โ
โWhatโs up?โ Orion asked, only to be met with silence on the other end.
Matthew, sweating bullets, blurted out, โWhy are you answering her phone?โ
โDisappointed? Whatโs so important? Go on.โ
Orion narrowed his eyes, suspicious of Matthewโs late call. What could Matthew possibly want to talk to Lemira about that was so urgent?
โUh, I just wanted toโฆ compliment you, yeah. My phoneโs about to die, gotta run.โ
Matthew hung up, his nerves shot. He thought, โI need to lay low for a while. This could spell trouble.โ
Orion, staring at the disconnected call, sensed Matthew wasnโt intending to praise him.
Shortly after, Lemira emerged, changed and visibly calmer. โThanks for being here for me.โ
In this world, only Orion seemed to rush to her side if she didnโt answer calls or texts. Orion studied her closely. โYou sure youโre okay?โ
โWhat could be wrong? Lucianโs seen Evelinaโs true colors. Heโs treading lightly around me now. He wonโt harm me.โ Lemira purposefully didnโt mention Caspian.
Orion, sensing her omission, paused before speaking. โCanโt remember anything from the accident back then?โ
โNope. Doctor said itโs post-traumatic amnesia. My mindโs shielding me by blanking out that day.โ
Lemira had never dwelled on the accident before. But today, she felt compelled to uncover the truth, to find out if the driver really was her savior.
Orion didnโt pry further. โItโs late. Rest up and call if you need anything.โ
โWill do.โ
After Orion left, Lemira slumped against the door. She didnโt want Orion entangled in this, especially with Caspian, whose moods were unpredictable, having been involved with the underworld since middle school. Though now trying to make it in showbiz with his good looks, Caspian was still mingling with his old contacts, smoothing over troubles. Caspian, leveraging his charm, had almost clinched an acting award last year and was tipped for it again, thanks to a blockbuster script and a hit TV series, both penned by her. But Lemira wasnโt about to let Caspian intimidate her any longer.
The next day, Lemira allowed herself to sleep in, then headed to the esports teamโs base at school in the afternoon to check on their training. Approaching the base, she noticed a crowd, including girls holding support signs for Caspian. He was actually at the school base. Inside, Lemira spotted Caspian surrounded by fans and walked over.
Caspian came her way. โLet me introduce my sister Lemira, the most important person in my life.โ
The fans screamed in excitement.
Lemira, annoyed, whispered, โWhat are you doing? Iโve cut ties with the Langstons.โ Was he trying to guilt-trip her?
โYou got it all wrong. Iโm here to make amends. Lucian filled me in on recent events, and I realized Evelina misled me.โ Caspian had checked the footage himself and knew Lemira was innocent.
โI didnโt mean to upset you. Letโs bury the hatchet, yeah?โ
