Chapter 426
Lemiraโs lips curled into a chilly smirk. โYouโre mistaken. The one who fancies that bistro is Evelina, not me.โ
Caspianโs face twisted awkwardly. โMustโve slipped my mind then, been swamped at work lately.โ
โIf you canโt keep it straight, then drop the โbig brotherโ act, will you? There are no cameras here.โ
Caspianโs expression soured considerably.
Evelina quickly stepped in to smooth things over. โCaspian, Lemmyโs just blunt, donโt take it so personally.โ
Seizing the moment, Caspian made his exit from the teamโs headquarters.
Janice huffed in frustration. โPretending to be someone theyโre not. I wish we could just expose him for who he truly is.โ
โBut heโs a celebrity. Without undeniable proof, nobodyโs going to take your word for it.โ
Especially since Caspian had always played up his โgood guyโ persona, her word alone couldnโt stand against his army of fans.
Lemira surveyed the group. โLetโs start training then. I want to spar with each of you to see our progress.โ
They trained together until the dormโs curfew, only stopping then.
After a shower back at the dorm, Lemira found a package on her desk. Recognizing the packaging, she opened it to find a box of pain relief patches. She snapped a photo, sending it to Orion with a simple, [Got it, thanks.].
Orion, staring at her message, was unsure how to respond. Her casual demeanor left him guessing.
Thaddeus glanced over. โIf Lemonโs messaging you, sheโs obviously not holding a grudge, knowing well it wasnโt your car, and not directly your fault.โ
โBut she doesnโt seem to be in the know.โ
Orion hesitated, then nodded. โYouโre right. I have to confront Matthew about trying to sell me out.โ
After blow-drying her hair, Lemira noticed Orion hadnโt replied. Instead, she found several messages from an underground market contact.
The contact was pressing. [Theyโre really keen on having you, ready to bump your offer. If youโve got any conditions, nowโs the time.]
[Itโs not about the offer. Iโm not interested,] Lemira texted back, unwilling to collaborate with Asherโs company.
[Got beef with them?]
[Yes, I do.]
[Then use this chance to make them grovel. They need you; donโt waste this opportunity.]
Lemira pondered, then an idea struck her. Asher had clues to her parentsโ accident. Perhaps, she could trade for that information. Given Asherโs slow progress in gathering bits of the story, it wouldnโt be easy on her own. Despite her reluctance to engage with the Langstons, uncovering the past was crucial for her.
โYou have a point. Iโll see Mr. Langston at the Langston Group first thing tomorrow.โ
Some matters required a face-to-face discussion.
Chapter 430
The next morning, after her classes, Lemira headed straight for the Langston Group. Backpack slung over her shoulder, she approached the receptionist. โIโm here to see Mr. Langston.โ
โDo you have an appointment?โ
The receptionist did a double-take upon seeing Lemira. โYouโre Lemira?โ
With a nod, Lemira confirmed. The receptionist then personally escorted her to the CEOโs office.
Asher, looking up to find Lemira, was taken aback. โWhat brings you here?โ
Straight to the point, Lemira said, โI want the information on the person who fled the scene that night.โ
โIt seems youโve made your choice, dropping the lawsuit. Shouldโve done so from the start. Seems thereโs some decency in you after all; your parents didnโt raise you wrong.โ
Asherโs mood improved significantly, adopting a condescending tone. โBut if you want the clues, youโll have to ask nicely.โ
