Chapter 457
Lemiraโs tone dripped with sarcasm. Evelina was seething with anger, silently vowing that once she got her hands on everything the Langston family owned, she would make this wretched woman beg for mercy. She swore it!
Caspian slapped Evelina on the head: โWhat are you staring at? Apologize!โ
Evelina, biting back the pain, said, โLemmy, it was all my fault back then. I spoke out of turn, and thatโs why Caspian has held a grudge against you for all these years.โ
Lemira almost laughed upon hearing this. Only then did Caspian turn to Lemira, his voice a bit stiff: โYou heard her. I was deceived by her, which led to the misunderstanding and my harsh treatment of you.โ
โOh.โ
Lemira responded indifferently: โAre you done? Because if so, Iโm leaving.โ
As she turned to go, Caspianโs voice stopped her: โLemira, it was all a misunderstanding. Canโt you forgive and forget?โ
Forgive and forget?
Lemira turned back: โAnd you think a few light apologies can make up for everything Iโve been through?โ
Caspianโs face turned a shade of thunder: โLemira, whatever you went through, Iโll make sure Evelina goes through it too. Is that enough for you?โ
Lemira glanced at Evelina, whose face had turned pale with fear, and replied, โHow does that even begin to make things right?โ
Evelina, in pain, wondered if this was not enough for Lemira. Did she really want her dead?
Caspian moved to say more but was blocked by Debby from TG Group: โMr. Langston, please, enough.โ
โAnd you think you can stop me?โ
โMr. Langston, your agent begged us at TG to handle this violent incident. Unfortunately, weโve taken Ms. Langstonโs side on this.โ
Caspian was furious, feeling belittled. Lemira entered the elevator, casting a last mocking glance at Evelina. She was curious to see how much more Evelina could endure. Recently, Evelina hadnโt been seen with that middle-aged man anymore.
Back in her hospital room, Debby said, โMs. Langston, theyโll try everything to soften your heart so you wonโt pursue any charges.โ
โI know.โ
Lemira knew the Langstons too well and understood Caspianโs intentions. But she wouldnโt agree so easily, nor did she want to let Evelina off the hook.
After Debby left, Lemira turned on her laptop. Her slender fingers flew over the keyboard, hacking into Evelinaโs phone. After the dayโs events, Evelina might contact her father.
Chapter 45
Lemira found a conversation on the phone. It was simple but telling. Evelinaโs father had instructed her to feign vulnerability to gain Asherโs sympathy, aiming to drain the Langston family dry.
So that was Evelinaโs game.
Lemira remembered that in her past life, she had caught Evelina lying and falsifying medical records, even leaking evidence against Asherโs company. But back then, her brothers didnโt believe her. She ended up thrown out of the house and died miserably in a mental institution. She never found out if the Langston family was eventually ruined by Evelina.
Thinking about it, Evelina couldnโt have done it alone. Her father must have been behind it.
Lemira checked Evelinaโs phone again but found nothing beyond that conversation. The number was a burner, untraceable.
