Chapter 49
Lemira raised an eyebrow, her gaze bold and piercing. โI remember very clearly,โ she stated. And she would never forget. With that, Lemira shut the door, unwilling to say another word.
Lucian stood outside, looking down at the necklace in his hands, contemplating his recent words. Instant regret washed over him. But Lemiraโs words had been deliberately provocative. She was intelligent enough to understand his meaning. Was she still angry? Lucian stared at the closed door, thinking, โLemira, what am I going to do with you?โ
Lemira was in a foul mood. She shouldn't have been so hopeful, thinking her brothers would suddenly develop a conscience and come to Ner, weeping apologies. She had thought too much, underestimated Evelina's influence on Lucian. After all, Lucian was moved to tears by Evelina making him a simple bowl of soup, while her years of preparing nutritious meals were treated as worthless trash.
She decided to withdraw her efforts completely, refusing to join Alaric's team, ceasing to cook for Lucian, and abandoning Asher's cybersecurity maintenance. The same applied to Rowan, Caspian, and Evander. She would withdraw from them all.
When Lemira checked the online gaming forum, she saw her recent post, โHow to Land a Twelve-Combo Hit for Beginners,โ had gone viral. Many saved it, but many others mocked her, calling her arrogant. Lemira didn't respond; her advice was based on that man's experiences.
She received a private message. Checking the profile, she saw it was from Alaric. He texted: [Remember when you stole my boss last time?] Of course, Lemira remembered. It had been intentional.
She didn't reply. Alaric sent another message: [How about considering joining a professional team? We can negotiate terms. I see potential in your skills, and being on a team means professional training!]
Lemira found the message ironic, knowing Evelina's unreliability and understanding Lemira wouldn't join the competitionโso he was recruiting again. Alaric finally faced reality.
Lemira flatly refused: [I refuse.]
After replying, she logged off. Alaric, staring at those few words, couldn't help but picture Lemira's face. She always used those same words to refuse him.
Frustrated, Alaric shut off his computer, upset about having to move out because of Lemira. He regretted hitting her during the last match. But his pride prevented an apology; he was accustomed to Lemira pampering him, his little sister.
Time flew by, and the final mock exam arrived. Lemira felt confident during her exams and believed she performed well. She left the classroom early to enjoy some fresh air on the school grounds.
When Lemira returned, she saw Evelina crying at her desk, her usual companions absent.
โEvelina, stop crying. We all believe you're not the type to cheat.โ
โRight, the teacher will definitely investigate and clear your name.โ
โYeah, Evelina, you usually do well in school; there's no need for you to cheat.โ
Hearing these conversations, Lemira guessed what had happened. She had always suspected Evelina of cheating, especially since one of her sidekicks had surprisingly good grades. This incident hadn't occurred in Lemira's past life. Evelina must have fallen behind because of gaming, resorting to desperate measures to maintain her grades.
Chapter 49
In her past life, Evelina's cheating had been exposed during the exams, resulting in terrible scores, even worse than another student's. Later, when the exam results were published and Lemira had done well, Evelina claimed her poor performance was due to being emotionally affected by Lemira.
