Chapter 500

Could you believe Asher didnโ€™t stand up for her? Now sheโ€™s the punchline of the whole party?

Lemira glanced Evelinaโ€™s way, her words dripping with faux concern: โ€œI know youโ€™ve always wanted to shine, but crashing the scene wonโ€™t get you anywhere. It might backfire. Iโ€™m only looking out for you. Youโ€™re not mad, are you?โ€

Her words were like a slap, driving Evelina nearly insane.

Evelinaโ€™s face soured. โ€œIโ€™m heading to the restroom.โ€

Watching Evelinaโ€™s retreating figure, Lemira let go of Asherโ€™s arm, her mission to rile up Evelina accomplished. After all, in the Langston family, Asher was the only one firmly in Evelinaโ€™s corner. Lemira played her part well, earning Asherโ€™s approval and lessening his reservations about her.

Asher whispered, โ€œSee? Isnโ€™t this better? Why donโ€™t you and Eve make up and live peacefully?โ€

Lemiraโ€™s lips twisted into a cold smirk. โ€œSure, but you have to be fair. Give me whatโ€™s mine, and Iโ€™ll follow your advice.โ€

โ€œFine,โ€ Asher conceded. โ€œIโ€™ll keep everything Mom and Dad left for you safe until you prove you truly want to be part of the Langston family again.โ€

Asher was cautious, suspecting Lemiraโ€™s return might be for the inheritance. What if Lemira changed her mind once she got her share?

Lemira responded coolly, โ€œAlright, but Evelina canโ€™t touch my stuff, including the Aurora Trust.โ€

โ€œAgreed.โ€

Asher promised quickly, figuring he could compensate Evelina later. Lemira glanced at her champagne glass, musing over Evelinaโ€™s reaction to this deal. This was just the beginning. Asher, always so arrogant and self-assured, preferred the bigger picture. It used to be Lemira who suffered; now it was Evelinaโ€™s turn.

The tables have turned, and Lemira was curious how long Evelina would hold out. She was also eager to see Asherโ€™s face when he found out Evelinaโ€™s father was alive and tied to a past accident.

After the networking event, Evelina emerged from the restroom, visibly upset.

Lucian suggested, โ€œLetโ€™s have dinner this weekend, our first as a reconciled family.โ€

โ€œSure, but my room better be ready.โ€

Lemira couldnโ€™t resist a dig at Evelina. โ€œOh, and Evelina, the Aurora Trust is mine. It should return to me now that Iโ€™m back.โ€

Evelina was livid. โ€œAsher, didnโ€™t you promise the Aurora Trust to me?โ€

Asher coughed awkwardly. โ€œI was just trying to push Lemiraโ€™s buttons. Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll make it up to you.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™ve put so much into the foundation, even planned a charity sale. The invites are out. What am I supposed to do now?โ€

Evelina never expected Asher to turn his back so swiftly. Blood ties indeed ran deeper.

Hearing about the charity sale, Lemiraโ€™s eyes sparkled. โ€œSeems like youโ€™ve put in effort, Evelina. Keep organizing the charity sale.โ€

Evelina would surely mess with the funds.

Asher looked surprised. โ€œYou agree?โ€ He thought Lemira would object, but he was relieved.

Lemira deliberately told Evelina, โ€œJust donโ€™t screw it up. Do a good job with the charity sale, and youโ€™ll get paid.โ€ Evelina was furious. How dare she treat her like an employee? The charity money was supposed to be hers. How could a mere salary suffice?

With Lemira back, the whole plan was in disarray. Evelina knew she had to reach out to her father. Lemira had to go.
