Chapter 521

“Wait, Zack did what?” Lemira couldn’t believe her ears. She rushed down to the basement, where the entire Langston family had already gathered. Asher stood by the door, staring at Zack’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling. His brow furrowed, but deep down, he was relieved. A suicide out of guilt meant they could pin all the blame on Zack.

Lucian noticed Lemira approaching and quickly shielded her view. “Don’t look, it’ll haunt your dreams.”

Lemira set her jaw. “Zack wouldn’t have taken his own life.” Evelina must have coerced him somehow. A greedy person like him wouldn’t just up and end it.

Caspian spoke up, “So you think he was murdered?”

“No way,” Asher shot back immediately. “And if it was murder, who did it? Eve’s just a girl; she couldn’t have done it alone. Don’t you dare try to frame her.”

Lemira smirked. “Who’s to say Evelina didn’t have help?” Clearly, someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Asher was getting agitated. “She’s an orphan, Lemira. Where would she find someone capable of murder?”

Lucian nodded in agreement. “Asher’s got a point. Maybe Zack really did take his own life out of guilt.”

“Asher, we have to report this to the police. But what excuse should we use?” Lucian pondered for a moment.

Asher chimed in, “Let’s say Zack stole a bunch of valuables from the house. He was caught trying to take something from Lemira’s room last night, and out of shame, he ended it.”

Lucian agreed. “I suppose that works. Zack’s accounts were always sketchy, but I turned a blind eye.”

Lemira found it all rather amusing. A man with such a questionable character had served the Langston family for years.

Caspian spoke up on her behalf, “Lucian, if you knew Zack was trouble, why keep him around?”

Lucian looked uneasy. “I thought it was wrong to just fire him after all these years, especially since Evelina was close to him.”

Who would’ve thought things would turn out like this?

Just then, Evelina burst into the room. “Asher, I heard Zack killed himself. Is it true?”

Asher stopped her from going any further. “Yes, but you really shouldn’t see. It’s not a pretty sight.”

Evelina’s eyes were red from crying. “I never expected this. Even if he deserved it, it’s still a life lost.”

Thank goodness her father had taken care of this problem. Too bad they couldn’t get rid of Lemira just yet.

Lemira rolled her eyes. “Oh, the theatrics.”

Caspian stepped forward and pushed Evelina towards the basement. “If you’re so concerned, why not have a closer look?”

Evelina caught a glimpse of Zack’s face and screamed, going limp with shock. Anyone would be scared stiff seeing a dead body like that.

Asher cradled Evelina in his arms and shot Caspian a glare. “That was too much.”

“She wanted to show concern, right? Up close and personal seems fitting.”

Evelina was a mess, pale and speechless, draped over Asher’s shoulder. It was her first encounter with death, especially one orchestrated by her father.

Meanwhile, Lemira had moved to the living room. She hadn’t expected Evelina’s father to act so swiftly. She pulled out her phone and texted someone from the TG Group’s PR Team. “Check the surveillance around our neighborhood. That person must have shown up again.” This was the perfect opportunity to trace it back to Evelina’s father.

Asher looked at Lemira. “When the police arrive, both you and Eve need to stick to the story. Zack was caught stealing, got scared, and you know?”

Evelina nodded obediently.

But Lemira lifted her chin defiantly. “I’ll tell the truth. Why should I swallow this lie?”

She noticed Evelina’s expression change, the “two-faced” girl clearly not wanting this to blow up any further.
