Chapter 521

โ€œWait, Zack did what?โ€ Lemira couldnโ€™t believe her ears. She rushed down to the basement, where the entire Langston family had already gathered. Asher stood by the door, staring at Zackโ€™s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling. His brow furrowed, but deep down, he was relieved. A suicide out of guilt meant they could pin all the blame on Zack.

Lucian noticed Lemira approaching and quickly shielded her view. โ€œDonโ€™t look, itโ€™ll haunt your dreams.โ€

Lemira set her jaw. โ€œZack wouldnโ€™t have taken his own life.โ€ Evelina must have coerced him somehow. A greedy person like him wouldnโ€™t just up and end it.

Caspian spoke up, โ€œSo you think he was murdered?โ€

โ€œNo way,โ€ Asher shot back immediately. โ€œAnd if it was murder, who did it? Eveโ€™s just a girl; she couldnโ€™t have done it alone. Donโ€™t you dare try to frame her.โ€

Lemira smirked. โ€œWhoโ€™s to say Evelina didnโ€™t have help?โ€ Clearly, someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Asher was getting agitated. โ€œSheโ€™s an orphan, Lemira. Where would she find someone capable of murder?โ€

Lucian nodded in agreement. โ€œAsherโ€™s got a point. Maybe Zack really did take his own life out of guilt.โ€

โ€œAsher, we have to report this to the police. But what excuse should we use?โ€ Lucian pondered for a moment.

Asher chimed in, โ€œLetโ€™s say Zack stole a bunch of valuables from the house. He was caught trying to take something from Lemiraโ€™s room last night, and out of shame, he ended it.โ€

Lucian agreed. โ€œI suppose that works. Zackโ€™s accounts were always sketchy, but I turned a blind eye.โ€

Lemira found it all rather amusing. A man with such a questionable character had served the Langston family for years.

Caspian spoke up on her behalf, โ€œLucian, if you knew Zack was trouble, why keep him around?โ€

Lucian looked uneasy. โ€œI thought it was wrong to just fire him after all these years, especially since Evelina was close to him.โ€

Who wouldโ€™ve thought things would turn out like this?

Just then, Evelina burst into the room. โ€œAsher, I heard Zack killed himself. Is it true?โ€

Asher stopped her from going any further. โ€œYes, but you really shouldnโ€™t see. Itโ€™s not a pretty sight.โ€

Evelinaโ€™s eyes were red from crying. โ€œI never expected this. Even if he deserved it, itโ€™s still a life lost.โ€

Thank goodness her father had taken care of this problem. Too bad they couldnโ€™t get rid of Lemira just yet.

Lemira rolled her eyes. โ€œOh, the theatrics.โ€

Caspian stepped forward and pushed Evelina towards the basement. โ€œIf youโ€™re so concerned, why not have a closer look?โ€

Evelina caught a glimpse of Zackโ€™s face and screamed, going limp with shock. Anyone would be scared stiff seeing a dead body like that.

Asher cradled Evelina in his arms and shot Caspian a glare. โ€œThat was too much.โ€

โ€œShe wanted to show concern, right? Up close and personal seems fitting.โ€

Evelina was a mess, pale and speechless, draped over Asherโ€™s shoulder. It was her first encounter with death, especially one orchestrated by her father.

Meanwhile, Lemira had moved to the living room. She hadnโ€™t expected Evelinaโ€™s father to act so swiftly. She pulled out her phone and texted someone from the TG Groupโ€™s PR Team. โ€œCheck the surveillance around our neighborhood. That person must have shown up again.โ€ This was the perfect opportunity to trace it back to Evelinaโ€™s father.

Asher looked at Lemira. โ€œWhen the police arrive, both you and Eve need to stick to the story. Zack was caught stealing, got scared, and you know?โ€

Evelina nodded obediently.

But Lemira lifted her chin defiantly. โ€œIโ€™ll tell the truth. Why should I swallow this lie?โ€

She noticed Evelinaโ€™s expression change, the โ€œtwo-facedโ€ girl clearly not wanting this to blow up any further.
