Chapter 521
โWait, Zack did what?โ Lemira couldnโt believe her ears. She rushed down to the basement, where the entire Langston family had already gathered. Asher stood by the door, staring at Zackโs lifeless body hanging from the ceiling. His brow furrowed, but deep down, he was relieved. A suicide out of guilt meant they could pin all the blame on Zack.
Lucian noticed Lemira approaching and quickly shielded her view. โDonโt look, itโll haunt your dreams.โ
Lemira set her jaw. โZack wouldnโt have taken his own life.โ Evelina must have coerced him somehow. A greedy person like him wouldnโt just up and end it.
Caspian spoke up, โSo you think he was murdered?โ
โNo way,โ Asher shot back immediately. โAnd if it was murder, who did it? Eveโs just a girl; she couldnโt have done it alone. Donโt you dare try to frame her.โ
Lemira smirked. โWhoโs to say Evelina didnโt have help?โ Clearly, someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Asher was getting agitated. โSheโs an orphan, Lemira. Where would she find someone capable of murder?โ
Lucian nodded in agreement. โAsherโs got a point. Maybe Zack really did take his own life out of guilt.โ
โAsher, we have to report this to the police. But what excuse should we use?โ Lucian pondered for a moment.
Asher chimed in, โLetโs say Zack stole a bunch of valuables from the house. He was caught trying to take something from Lemiraโs room last night, and out of shame, he ended it.โ
Lucian agreed. โI suppose that works. Zackโs accounts were always sketchy, but I turned a blind eye.โ
Lemira found it all rather amusing. A man with such a questionable character had served the Langston family for years.
Caspian spoke up on her behalf, โLucian, if you knew Zack was trouble, why keep him around?โ
Lucian looked uneasy. โI thought it was wrong to just fire him after all these years, especially since Evelina was close to him.โ
Who wouldโve thought things would turn out like this?
Just then, Evelina burst into the room. โAsher, I heard Zack killed himself. Is it true?โ
Asher stopped her from going any further. โYes, but you really shouldnโt see. Itโs not a pretty sight.โ
Evelinaโs eyes were red from crying. โI never expected this. Even if he deserved it, itโs still a life lost.โ
Thank goodness her father had taken care of this problem. Too bad they couldnโt get rid of Lemira just yet.
Lemira rolled her eyes. โOh, the theatrics.โ
Caspian stepped forward and pushed Evelina towards the basement. โIf youโre so concerned, why not have a closer look?โ
Evelina caught a glimpse of Zackโs face and screamed, going limp with shock. Anyone would be scared stiff seeing a dead body like that.
Asher cradled Evelina in his arms and shot Caspian a glare. โThat was too much.โ
โShe wanted to show concern, right? Up close and personal seems fitting.โ
Evelina was a mess, pale and speechless, draped over Asherโs shoulder. It was her first encounter with death, especially one orchestrated by her father.
Meanwhile, Lemira had moved to the living room. She hadnโt expected Evelinaโs father to act so swiftly. She pulled out her phone and texted someone from the TG Groupโs PR Team. โCheck the surveillance around our neighborhood. That person must have shown up again.โ This was the perfect opportunity to trace it back to Evelinaโs father.
Asher looked at Lemira. โWhen the police arrive, both you and Eve need to stick to the story. Zack was caught stealing, got scared, and you know?โ
Evelina nodded obediently.
But Lemira lifted her chin defiantly. โIโll tell the truth. Why should I swallow this lie?โ
She noticed Evelinaโs expression change, the โtwo-facedโ girl clearly not wanting this to blow up any further.
