Chapter 84

Evelina tried to sound casual. "Lucian," she said, "Lemmy skipped coming home for exams. If Asher finds out, it's going to be a disaster."

"Enough!" Lucian's tone was icy. "As long as you keep quiet, I will keep quiet. Asher won't find out."

Evelina looked awkward. "Of... course."

Damn it, without Lemira at the Langstons', she couldn't play her tricks.

Lemira returned to the apartment. Thaddeus was fuming. "What's with people? They have to apologize now? Force you to accept it?" Initially, Thaddeus had merely thought the Langston brothers were biased. Today, he realized it was outright blindness!

Lemira handed Thaddeus a glass of water. "Don't be mad, I'm not even upset."

"How can you not be upset?"

"I'm used to it; it's always been this way." Lemira's expression was serene.

Thaddeus clutched his chest. "Damn, I can't take it. I'm going to the balcony for a smoke to cool off."

Orion emerged with a fruit platter, his slender fingers clearly defined. He set it before her. "Eat up; vitamins are good for the brain."

Lemira blinked. "Why are you insulting me?"

"Planning on going back after exams?"

Oh, he heard that. Lemira took the fruit platter. "Gotta go pack my stuff."

Orion sat on the couch. "Just don't do anything foolish!"

"I know. I'll never go soft or forgive." Lemira's gaze was unwavering.

The rest of the exams went smoothly. After finishing the last one, Lemira felt immense relief. She'd held on for so long, and it was finally over!

Walking out of the classroom, Lemira was in high spirits, overhearing classmates, including Evelina, discussing the exam.

Jessica looked at Lemira. "How'd it go for you? I heard you had some issues with your stationery during the exam, but as long as the contents were fine, you shouldn't lose points."

Evelina quickly feigned concern. "Lemmy, even if you did poorly, it's okay."

"Still did better than you, though!"

Evelina's face stiffened. "Lemmy, don't be mad."

"Even though I was mad, I did better than you!" Lemira's words were like a dagger.

Jessica was shocked, gazing at Lemira. Lemira was usually so timid; though she'd become sharper in recent months, she rarely spoke to people like that. Post-exams, Lemira seemed even more outspoken.

Lemira slowly turned and walked away, her figure leisurely amidst the crowd. Evelina was fuming. Had Lemira gone mad?

She looked pitifully at Jessica. "I was just trying to be caring."

Jessica didn't hold back. "Whether you're genuinely concerned about Lemira or just wanting to see her fail, poking at her weaknesses… only you know. You bullied her for so long."

"Exactly. Thinking you can play the fake angel; we're not blind. Only Lemira was naive enough to be bullied." Evelina's eyes instantly reddened with tears, while Jessica and the others left, leaving her unattended. Evelina stood alone, her gaze darkening. Yet, she hurried after them, knowing Lucian would show up.

Just as Lemira stepped out of the school gate, she saw a row of red sports cars, all bearing a banner: "Wishing Sweet Lemon Endless Success And a Victorious Path Ahead!"

This spectacle seemed a bit much.
