Chapter 16
Mega hugged Zaver’s arm and whispered, “Zay-Zay, why don’t we eat elsewhere!” Zayn seemed to have heard her, and his eyes were glued to Julie. Perhaps his game was to ignore her, but Julie, who was initially focused on her phone, instinctively looked up. The bustling agent bumped into them while reaching for a menu. Julie granted a soft, “Excuse me.” The bustling agent couldn’t hear her clearly and anxiously asked, “What did you say, Ms. Somers?!” Awkardly, Julie mumbled, “I was talking to myself, haha.” Until it was time to leave, Zayn brought Megan to the seat opposite them so that Julie would occasionally motion to them feeding each other throughout her meal. The couple were in their honeymoon phase at the moment. How could she tear them apart? Jubilantly, her appetite grew at the thought of it. The housing agent noticed her putting her cutlery down, so he suggested, “Ms. Somers, we can leave if you’re done with your food.” Julie replied, “Okay, I’ll pay the bill. Please wait for me.” Then, Julie went to pay the bill. When she returned with the bill in her hand, she saw Zayn with Megan. Muka! And when he moved! I cursed in her heart, what a psycho he was, not to… Julie completely ignored Zayn, but when she was about to leave, he suddenly said, “Rich, huh? Have you found yourself with another man after leaving me? That man’s so stingy that you’re paying for the meal each time, huh!” Julie was unfazed by his mockery. She met his gaze, looked at him, and mocked, “You make it sound like you paid for me when we were together.” When he heard these words, his expression turned slightly awed. For a moment, he didn’t know how to respond. Julie was right—he was the one who paid for every meal they had during the three years of their relationship. However, was this the reason she cheated on him? It hadn’t been that long since they broke up, and she had already gone through one man after another. He had been made a fool too many times. Zayn became angrier at the thought, and said rudely, “Who does he think he is? How dare you compare him to me?” “Who do you think you are? How dare you make comments about who I eat with?” After she said that, she noticed the grim look on Zayn’s face and let the thought pass. Zaver’s eyes were glued to Julie and the housing agent’s silhouettes. His expression darkened, and he cracked his knuckles hard. When Megan saw the situation, she hurriedly approached him and said, “Zay-Ray, have you not moved on from Ms. Bomb?” Zaver immediately argued defensively, “There’s no way! I don’t like her at all. Let’s go, if you’re done with your food.” Then, he stormed out of the restaurant. Seeing this, Megan clutched her purse tightly in anger. She was not done with her food, but Zayn was already leaving the restaurant. Megan had no choice but to catch up to him. When Megan was in Zayn’s car, she carefully observed his expression. She said tentatively, “Zay-Ray, I want to stay with you while you work.” He drove the car out of its parking spot and said lightly, “I’m going to Tisbury this afternoon. I’ll drop you off at the office.” After he said that, he saw a man standing in the parking space designated for electric scooters. The two exchanged a few words, and Julie climbed onto the back seat of the man’s scooter. Zayn’s face turned ashen. Without hesitation, he slammed on the gas and drove the car forward, blocking the electric scooter in its tracks. Julie was somewhat speechless when she saw the familiar sports car. Why was he throwing a tantrum? The next second, the car window of the front passenger seat rolled down. With a smile, Megan asked, “Ms. Somers, is this your boyfriend?” Julie nodded and looked at Zayn, who was seated in the driver’s seat. “Sir, you’re in our way. Please move your car. Thank you.” Zayn was outraged at Julie’s calm demeanor. He mocked, “What’s the matter? Your boyfriend can’t even afford a car, so you have to ride an electric scooter?” Julie never thought Zayn would be this childish. She answered rudely, “It’s none of your business.” Zayn said with displeasure, “Since we know each other, my girlfriend suggested we give you a lift.” The housing agent could sense the rivalry between the three of them. He didn’t want to be caught in this mind game, so he quickly distanced himself from the situation. “Ms. Somers, let’s take a raincheck on viewing the other apartment. Perhaps I could arrange for a female colleague to give you a tour instead.” Julie said with a smile, “I’m sorry for taking up so much of your time today.” When Zayn heard this, he realized he had misread the situation, and his expression relaxed significantly. He moved his car away. The housing agent quickly drove away. Julie didn’t want to meet Zayn and left in the opposite direction. Not long after, Zayn caught up to her. “Julie, I’ll send you back to your university.” Julie seemed not to have heard him and continued walking on the pedestrian walkway. Zayn’s expression darkened, and he couldn’t help but raise his voice. “Julie, are you deaf? I asked you to get in the car!” Julie was annoyed by the noise and cried impatiently, “Is there something wrong with you? Don’t you realize how annoying you are?” His expression completely darkened at that. Previously, Julie would have complimented him; she used this tactic now. It seemed that Julie was furious at Megan and him being together, so she intentionally said this to catch his attention. Needless to say, Julie had successfully caught his attention. At this thought, a smug smile appeared on Zayn’s face. “Jerk, this new tactic?” Chapter 16 Julie was rendered speechless, thinking he had lost his mind. She didn’t bat an eye at him any longer and walked forward. This was a busy shopping street, and most taxis had already been taken. Julie had no choice but to order a ride from a ride-hailing app. It was slightly cold and damp at the beginning of winter in Hale City. Not long after standing by the side of the road, Julie’s hand that was holding her phone started to tremble from the cold. She stared at her phone screen, which displayed that she was still in the queue, waiting to be assigned a driver. Suddenly, a black Mercedes stopped before her. She naturally thought it was Zayn and rudely said, “You’re so annoying.” Before she could finish her sentence, she was taken aback when she carefully observed the familiar, untrustworthy vibe. The car window of the Mercedes rolled down, revealing Blaine and his slightly cocky smile. “What a coincidence, Julie. I can’t believe we’d bump into each other at a place like this.” Julie instinctively stepped backward. Truth be told, she didn’t want to have anything to do with a playboy like Blaine. He always had a smile on his face, giving off an untrustworthy vibe. “Where are you going, Julie? Let me give you a ride.” Julie instinctively shook her head and rejected his offer. “That won’t be necessary. I’ll order a ride.” Blaine persisted. “Why are you so courteous with me? Get in the car. It’s snowing outside; it’s getting cold.” Julie looked down, unwilling to entertain him. The next second, Zayn arrived in his sports car. Julie never expected Zayn to still be here. Compared to entangling herself with a madman like Zayn, she’d rather interact with Blaine instead. “Thank you, Mr. Chandler.” As she spoke, she opened the door to the back seat and hopped into the car under Zayn’s furious gaze. When she entered the car, she noticed that Lucian was there too. Julie was startled briefly before gently greeting him, “Fancy seeing you here, Mr. Fuller.” Lucian furrowed his brows slightly, displeased with her address. His lashes fluttered as he glanced at her. “What are you doing here?”
