Chapter 25

Hans paused, looking forward. “W-What did you say? Who took care of you last night?”

Julie. Whobe Zayn said.

“That your girlfriend, Megan, head over? I called her last night—”

Taym’s expression darkened at the mention of Megan’s name. He hadn’t expected Megan to lie to him. It seemed he had been lied to.

Zayn decided to give her the cold shoulder for a few days, and if things didn’t improve, he’d break up with her. He’d planned on a long-term relationship with Megan anyway. It was nothing more than anger.

But now, he couldn’t believe she had been bold enough to deceive him so openly.

Julie went straight to the Puller Group building, carrying her things. After registering at the front desk, the receptionist smiled after seeing her schedule. She used the executive elevator and swiped a card to summon it.

“Ms. Somers, please follow me.”

When the doors opened, the receptionist used the card to access the right floor and said politely, “Mr. Fleche is expecting you in his office. This elevator goes directly there.”

“Thank you.”

The elevator stopped on the 20th floor, and when the doors opened, Julia saw Lucian standing by the elevator. She was surprised. “Are you leaving?”

He shook his head and naturally took the bag from her hand. It was then Julie realized he had been waiting for her.

It was her first time in Lucian’s office, and she couldn’t help but look around.

“Is this your office?”

He nodded, gesturing casually toward the chair behind his desk.

Julie noticed his tired expression, particularly the dark circles under his eyes.

“Did you not sleep well last night?”

Lucian nodded. “Mm.”

His gaze drifted to the lunchbox Julie had brought. “Did you bring this for me?”

Julie nodded. “You weren’t familiar with the area.”

She opened the lunchbox and revealed the food—roast beef, clam chowder, and a small box of dessert.

Lucian raised an eyebrow. “A lunch with dessert?”

Julie paused but didn’t respond. Instead, she pushed the bowl toward him. “Try it. This place has great food, especially the chowder. It’s fresh and delicious.” Lucian raised his spoon. “Have you tried it?”

Julie nodded eagerly. “Mm, it was so good I packed it for you.”

She watched him with hopeful eyes.

Lucian hesitated, then picked up his fork and slowly tasted a piece of beef.

Julie sat across from him, waiting expectantly. “So, how is it?”

He swallowed and nodded. “It’s okay.”

She pouted. “Okay” wasn’t exactly a glowing review. But it made sense. Lucian was the pickiest eater. He’d even refuse food at Patricia’s house. Determined, Julie pointed to the clam chowder. “How about this?”

Lucian hesitated, then took a sip.

He nodded.

Julie sighed in relief. “Then you should eat more. Didn’t you say you didn’t have anything to eat?”

Lucian glanced at the lunchbox, then nodded slightly.

She stood up and handed him another bag. “This is for you.”

Lucian looked at it. “What’s in it?”

“Your shirt. I washed and dried it for you.”

Lucian put down his cutlery and looked at her. “But, you… did you just bring me a shirt?”

He couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. “Just leave…”
