Listen to this chapter:

“Yep. Let’s go.”

On the way back, Lucian’s phone kept ringing. Jobe stayed quiet, not daring to speak. The car eventually came to a stop downstairs at her dorm building. She said softly, “Thank you.” Then she got out of the car. Looking up at him, she added, “The person must be trying to reach you for something urgent. You should take a call so that they don’t worry.”

Lucian glanced at the missed calls, a half-smile playing on his lips. “Trying to tell me what to do now?”

Julie was speechless and felt a bit awkward for a moment. The snow, which had stopped before, started to fall again. The flakes now came down heavier. One could hear their soft rustling. A thin layer of snow settled on her head.

Lucian gestured with his finger. “Juju, come here.” Julie obediently walked over. “The snow’s getting heavy. Be careful going back.”

He smiled slightly, leaned out the window, and lightly brushed the snow off her head. “Go back. Send me a text once you’re in your room.”

She nodded, turning to walk toward the building. Lucian sat in the car, watching her figure fade into the night. Just then, his phone rang again. Glancing at the screen, he saw Blaine calling. He answered lazily. “What’s up?”

The moment he spoke, Blaine’s voice came through, laced with frustration. “Luca, where the hell have you been? Do you know that your parents, aunt, and sister have been blowing up my phone?” Lucian leaned back in his seat, lit a cigarette, and took a slow drag.

“I left first,” Lucian exhaled a puff of white smoke as he casually replied.

“You left? The hangar’s not even wi…,” Blaine began, then fell silent. “Oh, I see. I’ll hang up now.”

Back in her dorm, Julie received a notice from the dorm supervisor urging her to move out by the end of the week. The university needed to prepare the room for the next group of students.
