Chapter 66
Julie stood outside the restroom and waited. Before long, the phone in Amaya’s bag rang. Julie took it out and saw that it was from Christian. She waited a moment before calling out, “Maya, you have a call. It’s that jerk.”
“Pick it up for me. Curse him out.”
“Got it.” Julie answered, “Hello?”
“Amaya, did you freeze the card you gave me?” Christian’s accusing voice came through.
Julie paused before mockingly saying, “You’ve broken up but still thinking of spending Maya’s money? Do you think she’s a sucker?”
There was a brief silence before he demanded, “Where is she? Put her on the phone.”
“She’s unavailable. Say whatever you need to me,” Julie coldly replied.
Christian was quiet for a moment. Then, he demanded, “Tell her to send me some money. I’ll take it as a loan.”
God knew how humiliating it had been when the cashier gave him that disdainful look after his card was declined. He hadn’t expected Amaya to be so ruthless in freezing the card immediately after their breakup.
“No way. Go ask your parents if you’re broke,” Julie retorted with disdain.
“You must have said something to her, right? Otherwise, she wouldn’t have frozen my card,” Christian angrily accused.
Julie chuckled sarcastically. “Broke up and still trying to mooch off her? I’ve seen shameless people, but none like you. Listen up. You’d better stop harassing Maya, or you’ll regret it,” she warned before hanging up and stuffing the phone into the bag.
“Hello, young lady. Are you alone?” Suddenly, a stranger walked out of the men’s restroom and noticed she was alone. He approached with a sly smile and malicious intentions in his eyes.
Julie glanced at him without responding. Disgust flickered across her face, but she chose not to overreact.
The man refused to give up and tried again. “Isn’t it cold out here?” He feigned concern in hopes of getting her attention.
She acted as if she hadn’t heard him. She wanted no interaction with this stranger and prayed that Amaya would come out quickly so they could leave.
But the man reached out and tugged at her arm.
She instinctively took a couple of steps back and coldly said, “What the heck’s wrong with you? I don’t know you.”
The man didn’t seem offended. Instead, he laughed slyly. “Well, now you do.” As he spoke, he whistled at her.
His increasingly audacious behavior made Julie sick and repulsed. When she couldn’t bear it any longer, she walked toward the restroom, intending to get away from him.
But before she could walk forward, he seized her wrist. “Oh come on. Let’s be friends. Don’t be so cold.” He held her wrist tightly to prevent her from leaving.
Julie’s expression turned icy. “Let go, or I’ll call the police.”
The man paused briefly and sneered. “Well, do you think the cops will care if I’m trying to win a lady over?”
Julie couldn’t hold back her sarcasm. “Lunatic. Look at yourself. Do you think any woman would want you?” Her words seemed to hit a nerve, and the man exploded in rage as he began cursing loudly.
