Chapter 82

Zan and Julie had been together for three years. How could she just write off their whole relationship with a simple sentence like that? The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He raised his hand and threw his phone vehemently on the floor.

Hans, who had been leaning over the billiard table, looked up at him. “Why are you so angry?!”

Zan gritted his teeth. “Why else? It’s because of Julie.”

Hans looked quite surprised. “Hold up. Are you still hung up on her?”

Zan expressionlessly picked up the glass of red wine on the table, raised his head, and downed it in one gulp. He snorted coldly, a fierce look in his eyes. “I’m not going to just let her off for daring to play with my feelings.”

Hans was confused. Ever since they had encountered each other at Zayn’s place and parted on bad terms that one time, Zayn had refused to speak about the matter, no matter how Hans asked him about it. He had no idea how exactly Julie managed to offend Zayn that day. Based on how ruthless Zayn was, he probably wasn’t going to let Julie off the hook so easily. Megan really was useless. She had been by Zayn’s side for quite some time but had still yet to make any progress with him. Even now, Zayn was still thinking of Julie.

Hans hesitated for a moment before saying, “Forget it, Zayn. You and your girlfriend are getting along well, so why bother clinging onto someone who doesn’t know what’s good for her like Julie?”

Zayn stared unblinkingly at Hans out of the corner of his eyes. His searching gaze made Hans feel a little guilty. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Why do you hate Julie so much?” asked Zayn. “You were also highly opposed to our relationship back when we were together.”

Hans paused for a moment, then shrugged and replied, “Why else? Of course it’s because that woman isn’t worthy of you.”

Zayn narrowed his eyes slightly. “Is that really it?”

Seeing this, Hans raised his hand and prodded Zayn with the billiard cue in his hand. “Like I said, why else? We’ve been good friends for seven to eight years now, and you’re still doubting me?”

Zayn shook his head, saying nothing. Just now, he was suspicious. It wasn’t Hans’ friendship with him that he was suspicious of. On the contrary, he was suspicious as to whether Hans knew that Julie had always viewed him as a substitute for someone else, and that was why he had been so opposed to their relationship.

Back when he had first gotten together with Julie, Hans would behave strangely—passive-aggressively—with her whenever he showed up to their get-togethers with Julie in tow. Julie never responded to Hans’ taunts and would simply sit meekly beside him. Later on, perhaps because Hans had lost interest, he gradually stopped being so mean-mouthed. However, he still continued to say plenty of bad things about Julie to Zayn behind her back. No matter how Hans worded it, it was clear that he just hoped that Zayn would reconsider his relationship with her.

It was impossible for someone to hate another person unconditionally, unless said person had done something to them. That was why Zayn had assumed that Hans was aware of him being someone else’s substitute just now. However, from the looks of it, Hans was completely in the dark about it. He simply hated her because he found her to be an eyesore.

Seeing as Zayn was not saying anything, Hans spoke up sheepishly. “I really don’t think Julie is good enough for you, Zayn. Since you’ve broken up, you should just let her go and look toward the future.”

Zayn snorted coldly, uttering three short words. “In your dreams.”

Hans opened his mouth, but no words came out. He knew Zayn very well. Zayn was an arrogant and prideful man because he had everything within his grasp. Unfortunately for him, the situation was likely out of his control this time.

Zayn bent down to pick up his phone from the floor. Fortunately, it wasn’t broken. He opened up his address book and called his assistant, Priscilla. The moment the call connected, Zayn got straight to the point. “Can you investigate what Julie has been up to recently, Pris? Notify me as soon as you find out.”
