This girl, Yvette? I expected a girl from the countryside to be plain and unremarkable, but… she’s absolutely gorgeous!” Patrick admired silently. He had seen Winona, already considered pretty in high society, but Yvette’s beauty surpassed hers.
Seeing Patrick’s intense stare, Lucas coughed to regain his attention. Patrick, realizing his rudeness, forced a smile and adopted a formal demeanor, waiting for Yvette to initiate conversation.
Lucas introduced, “Ms. Zeller, this is Mr. Williams from Argrol University. He’s here to deliver a letter from Mr. Sunderland.”
Patrick was puzzled. Why was Lucas so respectful toward Yvette? High society had its own rules, and someone like her, who had recently appeared with no family backing, couldn’t possibly change anything! The contempt and arrogance in Patrick’s eyes were hard to hide. “Yvette better learn her place around me. Otherwise, life will be tough for her.”
Yvette, casually dressed in jeans, a white T-shirt, and an athletic jacket, leaned lazily against the railing, showing no reaction to Lucas’s introduction. Lucas genuinely admired her calmness.
“From Simon Sunderland? Hand it over,” Yvette said.
Patrick seethed. I waited so long for a response, and that’s all I get? No nice words at all? Simon Sunderland? How dare she call Mr. Sunderland like that? What gives her the guts to be so arrogant, considering she was admitted to Argrol University through connections?
Seeing Yvette take the letter and leave, ignoring him, Patrick sneered. “Ms. Zeller, what an impressive attitude! I’ve been here a while, and you don’t even look my way? That’s rude, don’t you think?”
Yvette turned sharply. Her expression was a mix of beauty and coldness, laced with annoyance. “Anything else? Or do you want me to admire your face? What’s wrong with you?”
Patrick, infuriated, trembled with anger, struggling to respond. Lucas wanted to intervene; Patrick had a knack for holding grudges and could make Yvette’s life difficult.
Just then, Zachary spoke in a cold tone. “Yvette’s behavior is none of your business, Mr. Williams.” Zachary had come to understand why Simon sent Patrick, but hearing him badmouth Yvette angered him. Scolding my daughter in my house? Patrick thought way too highly of himself!
Zachary’s sternness made Patrick realize he’d gone too far. He’d wanted to teach Yvette a lesson, but there were better ways to do that at school. He couldn’t admit fault, however.
After a tense silence, Patrick said, “Since you all don’t want me here, I’ll leave. I’ve delivered Mr. Sunderland’s letter. I’ll be ready to welcome you to Argol University next week, Ms. Zeller. Hope your time there is thrilling.” He stressed the last word.
Yvette savored the word, a cold sneer playing on her lips. Zachary, catching the threat, told Lucas, “Lucas, show him out.”
Patrick stormed out, fuming and humiliated. Fixated on the door, he vowed revenge.
Inside, Zachary urged Yvette to stay for coffee. Surprisingly, she complied. Zachary watched as she drank her coffee quickly. He wanted to comment but refrained after Yvette’s dismissive look.
Yvette tossed Simon’s letter on the table. Zachary glanced at it, pretending to enjoy his coffee.
Yvette, focused on her phone, said without looking up, “Go ahead, look if you want.”
Zachary blinked. “Huh? You’re giving me permission?”
Yvette gave him a cold, impatient glare. Zachary understood. He said cautiously, “I’ll open it then. Don’t regret it later.”
Yvette chuckled. “Playing coy at this age, huh?”
Zachary opened the envelope, revealing an “Admission Recommendation Letter.” Stunned, he dropped it, quickly picked it up, and read it closely. The wording clearly showed Simon’s high regard for Yvette. This letter, personally signed by Simon, was only granted to exceptional talents, unlike the admission notice secured through donations.
Zachary composed himself. “Do you know what it says?”
Yvette slowly lifted her head, a hint of wildness in her eyes. Without glancing at the letter, she nodded and returned to her phone.
“Wait, that’s it?” Zachary was impressed. “You already had this, so why the admission notice? You could’ve mentioned it earlier.”
Yvette paused. “I told you I didn’t need it. You just didn’t believe me.”
Zachary was speechless, recalling yesterday when he’d interrupted Yvette. It was a misunderstanding on his part.
Before he could speak further, Nellie and Winona entered.
