Tim greeted Clifford, longtime friends. Aurora smiled enigmatically. "Jeremiah and Yvette aren't coming to the banquet. They're going straight to the exchange competition site." Aurora already knew who would be playing in today's chess match. How much more surprise does my daughter-in-law want to give me? I didn't expect her to be a chess expert. I'm really looking forward to the match. The thought excited her. I can't wait to leave this dreadful banquet.
Samantha, upon hearing this, looked disappointed. She nodded. "Alright, Aurora. If Yvette isn't coming, neither am I. I'll go straight to the competition. By the way, is Yvette also interested in chess?"
Clifford nodded. "Samantha, you'll understand soon enough. Rest assured." He had personally approved the final participant list, so he knew Yvette would be competing. Despite being over fifty, Clifford remained elegant and handsome, his youthful grace still evident.
Tim laughed heartily. "I'm telling you, Mrs. Chavez, your daughter-in-law is truly remarkable. Samantha, having met her only a few times, talks about Yvette daily. Andrew does the same, that rascal! I really need to meet her! What happened the day before yesterday was truly impressive. No wonder she's the Chavez family's daughter-in-lawโshe has such character!" He didn't lower his voice, and many at the banquet overheard.
A small group gathered. A fashionable woman in her forties spoke up, "Did you hear that? Was Mr. Mitchell praising Jeremiah's girlfriend?"
A plumper woman added, "I heard it too. My son told me Jeremiah's girlfriend has a bad temper. She even dealt with a young model at a bar."
"I heard about that, but my son said the model was asking for it."
"Jeremiah's girlfriend is Yvette, right? Wasn't it also a Yvette who dealt with those two from Ybaulla the day before yesterday?"
"Oh, it must be a coincidence. How could the Major General's girlfriend hit someone!"
"What's the big deal? Look at Mrs. Chavez's dressโdoesn't it look familiar?"
Everyone nodded. A woman peered closer. "Now that you mention it, it does look familiar. Didn't 'Vibe' exhibit this gown recently? Didn't their director say it wasn't for sale?"
"Yeah, I just remembered. They wouldn't accept private orders. So how is Mrs. Chavez wearing it?"
A woman approaching overheard. She looked enviously at Aurora and whispered, "Stop guessing. I know. A relative works at 'Vibe.' All thirty haute couture pieces they showcased are at Mr. Chavez's home. We can only dream of that."
The gossiping women looked at Aurora. All thirty haute couture pieces bought by Aurora? What a joke! Didn't 'Vibe' say each person could only customize one piece? Why is Aurora getting special treatment?
Some felt bitter. "Oh well, we just don't have a husband like Mr. Chavez."
"Exactly, what else can we do? We don't have his capabilities!"
The woman who'd approached waved her hand. "My relative said it wasn't Mr. Chavez. Jeremiah's girlfriend made a phone call, and their director personally delivered all the dresses, even adjusting the sizes."
Silence fell. Wasn't she supposed to be a second-rate heiress from Seacrity? How could 'Vibe' break their own rules for her? Even one haute couture piece is unattainable for many of us!
The woman added, "Also, 'Vibe' didn't charge a single penny." She left with her wine glass.
Their daughter-in-law is excellent. Who can argue now? They can only blame their ungrateful sons.
The banquet ended quietly, with neither country's participants present. Media photos featured leaders and ministers only. Unauthorized publications were deterred, leaving the internet calmโthe calm before the storm, with only a few checking news, awaiting the global broadcast of the exchange competition.
In the car, Jeremiah and others headed to the Eastern Hotel. Yvette wore a formal black outfit, a stark contrast to her usual attire. She found a comfortable spot and settled in. Jeremiah drove; Charles and Andrew sat in the back.
Yvette opened a vanilla toffee, its milky aroma filling the air. She hadn't eaten much lately, maintaining her figure. She then took out her phone, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. Her beauty shone brightly as her fingers tapped the screen.
She wasn't playing Super Mario. She'd discovered a virtual pet game. She'd recently bought a pig, a donkey, and a very expensive Husky.
Andrew, still in the back, had a "You're kidding me" expression. He'd just heard Jeremiah say Yvette was participating in the chess competitionโthe mysterious competitor. Good grief, what's going on? Is Yve going to challenge the world champion?
Charles looked calmer. The instructor's intelligence surpasses even Mysonna's top academy principal. The next chess match shouldn't be a problem. It's all about what they want to do.
Andrew composed himself, swallowed hard, and patted Yvette's shoulder. Jeremiah's sharp look stopped him. "Don't want the hand anymore?"
Andrew withdrew his hand, frustrated. "Jeremiah, I was just expressing my admiration for Yvette." He thought a moment. "Yvette, what are you not good at?"
Yvette ate another toffee. Her in-game Husky was being attacked. She looked up, tilting her head slightly. "I don't know. I haven't met anyone yet."
Andrew awkwardly smiled, realizing his gaffe. He felt a bit sorry for Robin. If he knew his careless words provoked such a strong opponent, would he want to die more? I have a feeling Robin will be crushed.
