Listen to this chapter:

Yvette dangled her feet, eyes slightly squinted as she tossed her hair. Her voice was cool and composed. "Poisonous insects."

Those two words sent Rory into a panic. She now fully believed Yvette was Holden's niece. Only someone close to Holden would have such specific knowledge.

Rory, however, was unaware that Holden was already in trouble and had revealed everything. Lacking recent contact, she'd missed crucial information.

Rory's expression softened. "Has your uncle lost his mind? Didn't I tell him not to send anyone? I'm not ready for the shipment yet. I'll contact him in three days."

"The quality of the last batch was excellent," she added, freely speaking now that Yvette's identity seemed confirmed.

Yvette rested her hand on the armrest, a slight smirk playing on her lips. Her eyes, calm and deep, were hard to read. "My uncle wants me to deliver this batch personally. Things are tight, and he doesn't trust anyone else."

Rory felt even more convinced. Holden's suspicious and timid nature perfectly matched Yvette's description.

With a disdainful laugh, Rory replied, "Your uncle's far too paranoid. The vice commissioner at Clusian Customs has been taking my bribes for years. What could go wrong? But since you're here, I'll hand over the people in three days. Just this once. Next time, your uncle should mind his own business."

Yvette's eyes narrowed slightly, her brows raised in an expression of effortless indifference. She sensed Rory’s hidden prisoners, destined for Dungo Village.

Rory observed Yvette's delicate features, noting an innate pride that set her apart. It made her uneasy. "Do you have a boyfriend?" she asked impulsively.

Yvette sipped her orange juice and nodded. "Yeah."

"What's so great about men?" Rory countered. "Don't women understand women better?" She touched her cheek, a silent testament to past hurts inflicted by men. Her gaze fixed on Yvette, searching for a reaction.

Surprisingly, Yvette agreed. "Men aren't that great, but mine is pretty amazing."

Rory, furious at this perceived naiveté, threw her cup to the floor. Yvette responded with a playful, enigmatic smile that momentarily dazzled Rory before her hardened expression returned.

After a pause, Rory instructed, "Take Ms. Zeller to the guest room on the second floor."

A maid, local in appearance but speaking fluent Clusian, entered and bowed slightly to Yvette. Yvette rose, ignoring Rory, and followed the maid.

Rory watched her go, a heavy silence settling. As Yvette reached the door, Rory called, "Stay in the villa for three days. I'll take you somewhere then."

Yvette paused, a sly grin spreading across her face as she cast a thoughtful glance back at Rory.

Once Yvette left, Rory, still uneasy, called Holden. His voice answered, "Why are you just contacting me? Are the people ready? Did my person arrive?"

Rory sighed, relieved. Yvette's identity seemed legitimate. Before she could question Holden's actions, he abruptly hung up. Rory dismissed it as a signal issue or pressing matter.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah's phone rang, silencing the others. He stepped to the window to take the call.

A serious voice stated, "Mr. Chavez, Ms. Miller contacted Holden, just as you suspected. But they're unaware of your voice synthesis. It perfectly mimicked him."

Jeremiah's eyes narrowed. After hanging up, he saw Yvette's text: [Get ready.] He knew she was close to Rory Miller.

Emmett, Samantha, Charles, and Eagle King sensed the tension. Emmett broke the silence. "Mr. Chavez, what does Yvette's message mean?"

Jeremiah's tone was low. "She's found out about Ms. Miller."

The others were startled. Samantha asked, "What should we do?"

Jeremiah replied calmly, "I'm going out tomorrow. You all wait at the hotel for updates."

They agreed. With Jeremiah and Yvette on the case, they would await further instructions.

On the couch, Emmett recognized Eagle King from Kransbay months earlier, during a clash of internal energy in a hotel with Jeremiah. He realized Yvette had been there too. He said to Eagle King, "We met before, in Kransbay."

Eagle King, remembering the encounter, exclaimed, "Oh, it's you! No wonder you looked familiar."

Samantha and Charles exchanged puzzled glances. Emmett asked, "Were you there with Yvette?"
