The next morning, Sylus Fowler delivered the information he had gathered on Yvette to Daniel. Looking at the single sheet of paper, Daniel cast a questioning glance at Sylus, his secretary of over ten years. โSince when did he learn to slack off? Whyโs there only one sheet?โ he wondered.
Seeing Danielโs skepticism, Sylus felt a pang of regret, recalling his all-nighter. He had sought various sources but could only gather this much information on Yvette. Her past seemed erased, so he could only obtain recent records. This paper represented his exhaustive work.
Daniel skimmed Yvetteโs information before tossing the paper onto the hospital bed. Then, he smiled sinisterly. โWell, the Chambers family really knows what theyโre doing, huh?โ he mused. Is Yvette, who caused Ethanโs hospitalization, Zacharyโs long-lost daughter? She had hurt Nellie, forced the Carter family to apologize, bankrupted the Sullivan family, and caused their disappearance from Seacrityโall within a month of her return.
Daniel had heard about the Sullivan familyโs recent downfall. They werenโt top-tier, but they held some influence and their business prospered. Therefore, their bankruptcy surprised him. At first, he assumed theyโd offended someone powerful. He never expected Yvette to be the mastermind.
In his anger, he almost forgot something important. According to the duty manager, Jimmy, Yvette herself had bet 100 million dollars with Ethan. It wasnโt Ryan who cashed out, meaning she possessed more than that amount.
Daniel often socialized with Zachary and wondered, โZachary doesnโt seem like someone whoโd simply give his newfound daughter several hundred thousand dollars. Besides, the Chambers family isnโt as powerful as it used to be, and thatโs no small sum.โ
โShe must have someone powerful behind her,โ he concluded. โAfter all, Zachary wouldnโt have held his position in Seacrity this long if he were reckless. He wouldโve been crushed in politics long ago!โ
Lack of sleep made Danielโs stubble prominent, aging and grimifying his appearance. His voice, hoarse as nails on a chalkboard, rasped, โDo you know what happened between Yvette and the Sullivan family?โ
Sylus, familiar with Danielโs vengeful nature, especially concerning his son, Ethan, knew he wouldnโt let this go. He thought, I couldnโt obtain much information, but Iโll thoroughly investigate this matter involving the Sullivan family. A piece of paper wonโt suffice for Daniel.
Cautiously, Sylus said, โFrom what Iโve found, the Sullivan familyโs daughter, Sharon, offended Yvette, leading to revenge. However, thereโs another mysterious man involved. I doubt she alone couldโve driven them out of Seacrity. He must have helped her.โ
Daniel felt relieved. Heโd been wondering how Yvette managed to single-handedly oust the Sullivans overnight. The first time he saw Yvetteโs photo, he was struck by her striking, distant beauty. He knew sheโd be stunning in person.
He speculated mentally: He and Yvette must have some sort of special relationship. โDo we have any information on him?โ he asked.
Sylus shook his head. He hadnโt found anything about the mysterious man. โTwo possibilities,โ he explained, โeither his identity is unfathomable, or heโs not rooted in Seacrity and thus untraceable.โ
Just then, Ethan groaned from the hospital bed, distracting Daniel. He quickly called for a nurse.
Once Ethan woke and saw Daniel, he flailed in anger. Daniel reminded him to calm down. โSon, the doctor said you need to stay calm. Relax, I know how you feel.โ
Ethanโs eyes burned with malice. โDad, go find Yvette and lock her up. I want to torture her myself.โ
Daniel scolded him mentally, Ethan isnโt grasping the severity of this. What is he acting so dramatic for? He said, โWhat nonsense are you spouting? Canโt you see the nurse is still here?โ
Ethan, consumed by hatred, was only focused on revenge.
Sylus met Danielโs gaze and understood. He shot the nurse a sympathetic look, thinking, Oh, poor thing! Sheโs so unlucky to be assigned to care for Ethan.
In his fury, Ethan pressured Daniel to arrest Yvette. Afraid of Ethanโs rashness, Daniel immediately called Police Chief Jonathan Quigley and ordered Yvetteโs arrest for assault.
Jonathan, owing his position partly to Danielโs support, readily complied. Their past dealings had been more overt, but since Wyatt became mayor, they had to be more discreet. Arresting a university student seemed inconsequential.
After giving his orders, Jonathan left for a meeting. By the time he returned, the police station was in chaos. It was too late.
At Argrol University, the police went to Dean Patrick's office, obtained Yvetteโs records, and then proceeded to her physics class. Patrick was secretly pleased. What did Yvette do to warrant this? he wondered.
The police officers found the classroom empty. โDoes anyone know where Yvette is?โ they asked.
The students remained silent. The police, unused to such blatant disregard, felt embarrassed but couldn't force answers.
Nolan, one of the officers, asked again, โWhere is Yvette?โ
Patrick stood awkwardly by. Bonnie quietly asked classmates to shield her from view. Before she could text Yvette a warning, she heard a familiar voice: โLooking for me?โ
