Zachary waited anxiously outside the police station, helpless to intervene. He could do nothing.
Inside the isolation room, Daniel found Yvette with her eyes closed. He thought her even more beautiful than in photographs, and scrutinized her with intense curiosity. He mused, She heard me enter, yet remains so calm. No wonder Ethan lost so badly!
He sat opposite her, flanked by two officers. “Yvette, do you think silence will get you out of this? My son is in the hospital with a concussion, injuries that could affect his future. You’ll be in jail for years,” he said.
Yvette slowly opened her eyes, glancing at Daniel with disdain.
Provoked, Daniel stood and slammed the table. The sound was loud enough for Zachary to hear it outside. He shouted, “Yvette, stop pretending! It’s useless. No one can save you. If your father thinks he can get you out alone, he’s dreaming. Confess, and I’ll consider leniency.”
Yvette paused. “What do you want to hear? That your son couldn’t handle losing 100 million dollars? Or that he has such poor mental resilience he coughed up blood from anger?”
Daniel, furious at her stubbornness, was interrupted by a knock. He shouted, “Come in!”
A young officer approached Daniel, whispering, “There’s a man named Simon outside. He says…” He hesitated, noticing Daniel’s displeasure, “…he says he’s here to bail out Yvette.”
Daniel’s eyes widened. “Who? Simon? Which Simon?”
Startled by Daniel’s expression, the officer stammered, “Argrol University’s president, Simon Sunderland.”
Even the low whisper was audible in the small room. The officer, having narrowly missed admission to Argrol, had recognized Simon.
Daniel knew who Simon was, but refused to believe it. Yvette must have serious connections if even he's involved! he thought. That man is a significant figure nationwide. If he insists on bailing her out, it won't be easy. He glared at Yvette, who sat with crossed legs and a faint smile.
Daniel couldn’t ignore Simon’s arrival. “Yvette, don’t think this changes anything. Nobody can save you.”
Yvette stopped tapping the table, a mischievous glint in her eyes. She chuckled. “Really?”
Daniel, furious, slammed the door and left. The officers realized Yvette was more difficult than they’d thought.
In the lobby, Zachary was surprised to see Simon. Learning he was bailing Yvette out, he felt a surge of confidence. Simon’s influence was formidable.
Daniel quickly adjusted his expression, adopting a false smile as he approached Simon. “Mr. Sunderland, what brings you here? I would have arranged a banquet for you at Sky Nimbus,” he said smoothly, knowing Simon was aware of his manipulative tactics.
Simon looked down on Daniel. He knew Seacrity's past under Daniel's control—politically and socially chaotic—and how it only developed after Wyatt's office. Simon had ignored Daniel's overtures for years. He also knew Ethan's character and felt Yvette was not one to cause trouble without provocation.
Simon ignored Daniel’s pretense. “I wonder what mistake Yvette made to warrant arrest at school and your personal interrogation?”
Daniel’s hand, outstretched in greeting, dropped awkwardly. This old geezer is pushing his luck! he thought, withdrawing his hand. “Yvette argued with my son at Sky Nimbus yesterday, causing him to cough up blood. He’s in the hospital with a concussion.”
Simon frowned. A concussion? How could a grown man be beaten by a young girl? He didn’t believe Daniel.
“Are there witnesses or evidence? How can you arrest someone based solely on Ethan’s story?” Simon asked.
Zachary echoed his doubt. Even if Yvette won, how did Ethan get a concussion?
“Mr. Sunderland is right. You need evidence. How did my daughter give Ethan a concussion?” Zachary asked.
Daniel, regaining his composure, stated formally, “Yesterday, at Sky Nimbus, my son bet with Yvette. Losing 100 million dollars aside, Yvette was arrogant and abusive. In anger, Ethan fainted, hitting his head. Shouldn't she be held responsible?”
He knew the reason was weak, but releasing her easily would cost him dignity, and he couldn't predict Ethan's reaction.
Simon felt a surge of anger. Daniel dared to have her arrested for this?
“Are you arresting someone for this? Yvette is an Argrol student, and I will protect her. You've arrested her, and I'm here to bail her out. Why won’t you release her?” Simon demanded.
Daniel declared, “It’s not up to me. Mr. Quigley is in a meeting. Yvette will have to wait.”
Zachary was surprised by Daniel's disrespect toward Simon. A stalemate ensued.
Then, a young man's voice called out from the entrance: “What a display of authority!”
