Chapter 63

Hearing this, Henry raised his phone to his eyes, confirming several times that the call was from Elena. He then said respectfully, "Rest assured, Ms. Shelton."

Elena hung up and walked straight to the first-floor banquet hall.

Meanwhile, Alice frantically texted Zane: "Zane, come quickly! Elysia needs support. She's being targeted for rejecting the Davis family's proposal. Just come!"

After waiting a while without a reply, Alice frowned and quickly tapped out another message: "If you truly like Elysia, hurry! Can you bear to see her bullied? Besides, because she rejected the proposal, they're targeting her. If she hadn't rejected it, you wouldn't have a chance! If you ignore me again, I won't take care of you in your old age!"

Zane, en route to the airport with a stack of documents, ignored his ringing phone. His brow furrowed as he finally picked it up. Seeing the dozen WeChat messages from Alice, his expression darkened. He thought, "What is Alice up to?" Reading them, his heart tightened. He commanded, "Turn around."

The driver looked at Zane and asked, "Mr. Hartley, we're almost at the airport. Are you sure?"

Zane said, "Yes, go to the Rosewood residence."

Seeing Zane's grim expression in the rearview mirror, the assistant cautiously said, "Mr. Hartley, the Morgania conference…"

Before he finished, Zane interrupted, "Postpone it."

"Okay, Mr. Hartley. I'll contact them immediately," the assistant replied, puzzled by Zane's unusual behavior. He thought, "But what could be more important than the Morgania conference?"

Elysia and Ava stood in the banquet hall, where wealthy ladies whispered about Elysia. One said, "Indeed, she's beautiful, but beauty is meaningless. Does she think she's so important?"

Another agreed, "Exactly."

Ava wanted to confront them, but Elysia restrained her.

"Where are you going?" Elysia asked.

"To teach them a lesson! They're outrageous!" Ava retorted.

Elysia chuckled, thinking, Ava has a fiery temper. Normally, it's fine, but today, a fight would damage her reputation. "Ava, you'll get married someday. Becoming notorious at my birthday party won't help."

Emma approached with a smug look. "Elysia, your birthday party is quite exciting, isn't it?"

"If you weren't here, it would be even more exciting," Ava retorted, protectively standing in front of Elysia.

Emma sneered. "The Thorne family didn't dare come, yet you show up? Are you not afraid of causing trouble for your family?"

"None of your business!" Ava snapped.

"That's right, what does it have to do with you?" A confident male voice cut in from behind.

Emma turned and recognized Eric from Class Six, a notorious egotist whose family's wealth and influence rivaled the Davis family. Surprised to see him at Elysia's party, Emma thought, What a flirt!

Ava's eyes lit up. He's finally useful!

Eric approached, impatiently addressing Emma: "You've caused quite a few problems, haven't you?"

"What do you mean? I don't understand," Emma replied.

"Really? Do I need to list them?" Eric's tone grew colder.

Emma, feigning calmness, said, "No need. I'm leaving." She turned and left.

Ava snorted. "Just ran away like that?"

Charles and Daisy, nearby, were amused by Eric's actions.

Daisy said, "Honey, I've never seen Eric protect someone like that, especially a girl."

Charles said, "It seems he's finally come to his senses. I used to worry about his temper affecting his marriage prospects, but I was overthinking it."

Daisy said, "The girl in the purple dress—the Rosewood family's daughter—is beautiful. I really like her."

Charles nodded. "If they have a child, inheriting her genes, it'll be incredibly beautiful."

Daisy playfully pushed Charles away. "It hasn't even begun, and you're already thinking about children!" She added, a bit resentfully, "Eric's a bit dense. Expecting him to pursue her and give us grandchildren might take a while."

Charles suggested, "How about we propose a marriage to the Rosewoods? Their engagement with the Davises fell through; we Morgans could fill the gap."

"No," Daisy said. "Let them cultivate their feelings first. Then we'll propose."

"Whatever you say," Charles agreed.

Unaware of Eric's parents' plans for him and Elysia, hidden journalists snapped photos. They quickly published an article online: "Ms. Elysia Rosewood's birthday party: ignored, deserted. The article also insinuated that Elysia bullied and oppressed Emma." Negative comments flooded in.

Holden, scrolling through Twitter, saw the news. His brow furrowed. He looked at his assistant, Mike, and said, "Bring me my coat."

"Holden, the recording is about to start. Where are you going?" Mike asked.

"I need to go to the Rosewood residence," Holden replied.

Mike thought, The Rosewood residence mentioned in the news? He wondered why Holden was going there. Seeing Holden's serious expression, Mike didn't dare ask further, merely saying, "Holden, your sudden appearance at the Rosewood residence might not be good."

Holden realized his impulsiveness. I acted too hastily and didn't think it through. Mike is right. Going now will only cause problems for Elysia.
