Chapter 218

Emma was dressed plainly, not in a hospital gown. Liam, anticipating her discomfort, had ensured she received comfortable silk pajamas. Sitting on the bed, she appeared a refined young girl, lacking the usual aloof aura. However, her pale face and bandaged head revealed her recent injury; she looked like a sickly beauty.

Lawson eyed Emma, muttering, "This is your girlfriend? Are you sure she's not your niece or cousin?" He dared not voice his unspoken suspicion—that she was Liam's sister—fearing Liam's wrath. Liam's cold gaze met his. "Do you see any other woman in this room?"

Lawson rubbed his nose. "I'm not a woman."

Liam scoffed, "Even if you were, I wouldn't be interested."

"What the hell?" Lawson exclaimed, inwardly thinking, Is this necessary? A roasting upon our first meeting?

Emma giggled. "Honey, who is he?" she asked Liam, sensing his familiarity with the man.

Liam's tone softened. "Don't mind him. Are your wounds still hurting?"

"My injuries aren't serious," Emma replied. "I'm just worried about Lane." Though outwardly calm, her worry for Lane was evident. Liam, knowing this, immediately reassured her. "Lane's out of the woods now. With proper care, she'll be fine. Don't worry!"

He didn't introduce Lawson, who, feeling overlooked, stepped forward. "Nice to meet you, Miss. I'm Lawson, the doctor who performed your friend's surgery. She's fine, but rehabilitation might be challenging."

Emma recognized the name. "Are you Lawson Kaur, the internationally renowned neurosurgeon?"

Lawson chuckled. "Haha, that's me!"

Emma knew this person; a prominent figure who maintained a low profile, eschewing awards and evaluations to dedicate himself to research. His name, however, was known within his field; he was the only person to ever refuse the Grail Hero award. She was surprised, realizing the extent of Liam's connections.

Lawson asked tentatively, "I heard your friend attends military school?"

Emma nodded.

Lawson continued, "I need to be honest. Lane's injuries are severe. Her survival is a miracle. With recovery, she can return to normal life; however, strenuous activities like sports or combat will significantly reduce her stamina and strength, impacting her health. A physically demanding career may not be feasible."

Emma was prepared for this. Lane had risked her life to save her; Emma wouldn't have been injured without Lane's sacrifice. Emma silently nodded, her fingers gripping the bedsheet under the quilt.

Liam, noticing the shift in Emma's expression, said to Lawson, "Alright, she's tired. Go out now." Lawson wisely complied. "Alright, young lady, rest well. Oh, by the way, are you really Grail...?" He'd risked entry just to see the legendary Grail. Many had speculated about her identity—an elderly woman, a shrunken dwarf—but none guessed the reality: a strikingly beautiful, melancholic young woman.

Alone with Emma, Liam pulled up a chair. "I've found the person who caused your accident. Owen, the man you encountered at the bar and mall that day."

Emma's face hardened. "So it was them."

Liam asked, "Do you want to handle this?"

Emma's breathing deepened; her sharp eyes turned cold. "They harmed Lane. I want them to pay with their blood." Lane's injuries shattered her dreams. Even though Emma had altered Lane's past life, preventing a different tragedy, this misfortune remained. Emma would ensure those responsible paid the price—even if it meant crippling them for life.

Owen had vanished. Gina, unaware of his actions, discovered his absence the following morning and grew increasingly worried, especially given the sensitive timing. Just as she was about to call his friends, Owen himself called.
