Chapter 10

“Oh, right. Has the Klein family been pushing you to go on those nonsense blind dates recently? Do you want me to introduce you to my seniors? You could use this opportunity to take a quick break.”

Helena naturally knew all about Aurora being forced to get married.

Aurora felt her reactions slow. After a while, she couldn’t even look at Helena as she mumbled, “It’s fine. I’m married.”

“What? You’re married?” Helena couldn’t help but grip Aurora’s hand tightly as she questioned sharply, “Who is it? When did this happen? Didn’t you…”

Amora hastily answered her before she could continue rambling, “Chen Jenson of Corix Corporation. It happened days ago.”

“Own? Chris Corporation? Chen Jenson?” Helena wasn’t a stranger to Gerix Corporation. Frankly, Helena could barely believe it. Although she was astonished, she still had the sense to keep her voice down. She whispered urgently, “Are you sure? Are you positive it’s that Owen? That mysterious big shot?”

Asan nodded calmly.

Helena could only stare at her, her eyes wide. After a while, she muttered dazedly, “How did you manage to bag that guy? Wait a minute. Doesn’t he have a beloved girlfriend? I even heard he’s dating the infamous gambler’s daughter.”

“We’re keeping our marriage under wraps.”

“What? Under wraps? Are you instigating a drama or something?”

“It’s just less troublesome that way.”

As Aurora said this, she checked her watch, placed her cutlery down, and rose to her feet. “I need to head back to the lab. You should get back to work.”

Helena could only stare as Aurora left the cafeteria, unable to come up with a proper response.

I want to talk about it. She had a hunch that things weren’t all that simple. Still, she wouldn’t pry, especially since Aurora didn’t want to.

Astrait University was far from peaceful that afternoon. The students’ graduation thesis deadlines were almost done. Next, they would have to defend their theses with their lives if they wanted to graduate. The university was also organizing a recruitment drive.

Aurora could hear the enthusiastic shouts and discussions as she passed by the field. Alas, she had no time to soak in their youthful vigor and was about to take a shortcut to the lab when she heard a familiar voice up ahead.

“And here I thought you were so amazing. Yet it turns out you don’t even have a job! Didn’t you say Aurora’s brilliant? Why didn’t we get you a job?” It was none other than Linna.

Whitney was standing right next to Linna; she didn’t have much makeup on. This time, she was dressed in a white dress and had worn her hair in a high ponytail. She looked like an innocent and delicate angel.

However, this angel and her minion were bullying a frail-looking girl.

Aurora immediately recognized who the victim was. It was Stella, who had defeated her at Mitchell’s birthday party.

“Hey, I’m talking to you! Are you mute? You made Whitney look bad in front of everyone. You’ve got quite the audacity to do so, you ungrateful mutt! You’ve benefited from the Klein family for years. How could you bite the hands that fed you? How dare you show up at Astrait University for an interview?”

“Are you expecting Aurora to help you out? Do you think she’d bother wasting her time on the likes of you?”

Linne had always loved to attack her victims with her poisonous barbs.

“Just stating facts!” Stella refuted meekly.

Lima promptly silenced Stella’s words with a harsh slap. Then, she snatched Stella’s resume and tossed it aside carelessly.

Stella grasped her swollen cheek with one hand as she tried to retrieve her resume with another. Alas, Linna didn’t hesitate to skewer Stella’s hand with her high heels, causing Stella to cry out in pain. Linna didn’t stop even in the face of Stella’s tears.

“Look at her, Whitney! She looks so pathetic. She really is just like a mule, don’t you think she looks just like her aunt, all submissive and useless? Her aunt has always been groveling before the Klein family, just…”

“Hey, why don’t you give us a bark? Maybe I’ll let you work at Tulum Corporation if you do well. Whitney might even agree to hire you as her assistant if you…”

Whitney’s lips curled into a sneer. Nevertheless, she pretended to stop Lina, tugging on her sleeves as she advised, “Oh, you’re so cheeky. Let’s not bully the poor dear. Look at her. She’s crying.”

Then, Whitney leaned slightly to look at Stella with a smile. “Please don’t take Linna’s anger to heart. Still, she has a point. I’m willing to hire you as my assistant as long as you clarify things on Instagram and Twitter, stating that Aurora has been using you for years, brainwashing you into inwaiting for me. What do you think?”

Stella raised her head and shook it resolutely. There was no way Stella would ever lie about something like this. Aurora was a good person who had always treated her kindly. Meanwhile, these mean harpies had tried to slander Ancora all those years ago. There was no way she would stoop to their level!

Linna stomped toward Stella, wanting to slap her again. However, she didn’t expect me to grab her wrist quickly and twist it. As a result, her raised palm ended up whacking Whitney right across the face.

Whitney screeched in pain and lost her balance, taking a quick tumble down the slope. She rolled several times before finally landing in the flowerbed below.

“Whitney!” Linna instinctively ignored the pain she felt as she cried out to Whitney. Then, she redirected her fury at the person who had rudely interrupted them.

“Aurora! Do you have a death wish, you bitch?” Linna yowled angrily as she rushed to help Whitney.

Aurora’s eyes were stone cold as she glared at the two bullies before walking over to help Stella up.

“Aurora…” Stella whispered. She felt a sudden rush of emotion the second she laid her eyes on Aurora, causing her tears to fall.

Aurora nodded lightly before bending down to pick up the scattered papers.

“What are you doing here?”

Aurora organized the papers into their proper order before returning them to Stella.

Stella accepted them and said, “Thank you. I heard Astrait University was holding a recruitment drive, so I came to apply for a position.”

“What’s your major?”

Aurora didn’t know Stella as well as she wanted. Although they were indeed good friends when they were younger, they barely interacted due to her skipping several grades. As a result, they barely interacted with each other. In fact, Aurora would only bump into Stella whenever Wendy was around.
