Chapter 12
“You have no right to scold me, Mr. Sander,” Amma said. Her attitude instantly enraged Sidney. He replied, “I’m Whitney’s fiancé. Why don’t I have the right to scold you? Even as the son-in-law of the Klein family, I have every right to warn you!”
“Stop making Whitney feel troubled, and stop making any further mistakes. Know your place and do your part. If you insist on spiraling downward any further, what awaits you is the abyss. Did you not learn your lesson in the past? If it weren’t for the Klein family and Whitney’s acceptance of you, you would have been exposed and sent to jail with no chance to go abroad!”
Sorrow and disappointment filled Sidney’s eyes as he recalled the past. “I can’t believe you’ve become someone like this!”
“Whitney really spent a lot of time brainwashing you, huh? Do you really believe I went abroad because of her lowly tactics?” Aurora asked calmly.
“Oh, Mr. Sander. At first, I thought you were just young and foolish, and that’s why you have trouble differentiating between truth and lies. But it turns out your brain has never progressed and is stuck in the past. Well, considering your low IQ and ego, I guess a foolish life suits you better.”
Aurora glanced at him before turning away and leaving.
“Hold it, Aurora! What do you mean by that?” Sidney could tell the sarcasm in Anna’s words. He couldn’t believe such harsh and stinging words had come from the one woman he’d loved.
“I meant what I said,” Aurora replied. “Just go home and take good care of your woman. Make sure she doesn’t cause any more trouble. I’m busy and have no time to deal with her and her itchy attitude.”
“You keep saying ‘my woman’ this, ‘thy woman’ that. Weren’t you also my woman once?” Sidney was enraged by Aurora’s detached and indifferent attitude. He couldn’t accept how cold and distant she was to him. It was as if they were strangers.
Aurora chuckled and calmly said, “You know very well for yourself if I was ever your woman. Although the rumors about us were rampant back then, we both know what the truth was.”
Sidney’s expression soured. “I have very high standards for my partner. Indeed, I have no interest in any common man, including you, and it has always been this way.”
“I didn’t explain back then because I was being considerate of the Sander and Klein families. Given how rampant the rumors were, would I even be standing here today if I really cared about them? Do you understand now, Mr. Sander?”
Sidney was stunned as he stared at Aurora. Her eyes were clear and sincere, showing no sign of lying. However, Sidney refused to believe it!
Whitney mentioned before that Aurora was given to attacking and condemning others to regain her pride. It seemed like she was doing it right now!
“I almost forgot how good you are at making excuses,” Sidney jeered.
Aurora sighed in resignation. She had no desire to say any more.
Sidney looked at Aurora’s back and said with a cold laugh, “If you never liked me, why can’t you let it go after so many years? And why did you return after knowing I’m getting engaged to Whitney? If you really didn’t like me, why did you ask the school’s radio broadcast to play ‘Because You Love Me’ on my birthday?”
“Oh, Aurora. Are you that pathetic that you can’t even admit your love for me? I’m so disappointed with how you’ve turned out!”
In the end, Sidney let out a fit of rage. Aurora had no idea why Sidney suddenly got so angry and threw such a huge tantrum. It was so ridiculous. How could he be so emotional?
Would Sidney believe her if Aurora told him she had been busy studying, taking exams, and gaining experience? And if she told him she requested that song because it was for Helena, whose birthday was on the same day, would he believe her?
However, whether Sidney believed her or not had nothing to do with Aurora. Besides, that song wasn’t even about romantic love. It was dedicated to friends!
Aurora shook her head and walked toward the faculty building. Suddenly, her keen senses spotted something, making her look up. She saw Owen’s cold figure standing on the balcony on the third floor.
Noticing Aurora’s gaze, Owen lowered his eyes, a thoughtful expression there. Without a doubt, Owen had sensed everything unfolding before his eyes. But why was he doing this?
Professor Reed heard Aurora being called from the top of the stairs as she climbed up. “Mr. Jenson is waiting for you downstairs.”
“Why is he here?” Aurora asked.
“Mr. Jenson is here for a visit. He originally had dinner with Chancellor Payor, but since he’d walked to the Department of Physics, he wanted to come up and see you,” Tim replied.
Owen had donated a large sum of money to Astrait University, so it was no surprise he would visit the university. After all, Astrait University also worked with many companies.
Aurora nodded before continuing to the third floor. As expected, when she arrived, she saw the chancellor, William Payne, and the head of the department, Ethan Young, along with a few others talking.
Chapter 12
“Hi, Professor Reed. Are you done with your classes?” William smiled as he approached Aurora. Aurora remained calm and greeted him in return.
“You came just in time for dinner! How about you join us? Come, let me introduce you to someone,” William said.
“Professor Reed, this is the CEO of Qorix Corporation, Mr. Owen Jenson. I believe you’ve met each other before. Mr. Jenson is very interested in your study in quantum mechanics. Join us for dinner! And then we can continue sharing our opinions on this.”
William was passionately introducing Aurora to Owen.
“Nice to meet you, Professor Reed,” Owen greeted calmly yet pretentiously.
Aurora raised her eyebrows and nodded. “Nice to meet you too, Mr. Jenson.”
Since the higher-ups had personally invited Aurora for dinner, she had no reason to reject them. They had their dinner in a private dining room specifically arranged by the university.
Usually, someone like Aurora would never be seated beside a high-status man like Owen. But since she was the only woman out of the dozen people present at the dinner and she studied quantum mechanics—making her the exact person Owen was looking for—William pushed her forward as soon as she entered the room.
“Here, ladies first. Please sit over there, Professor Reed,” William said.
Aurora was seated beside Owen while William sat on his other side. Aurora and Owen were the main characters at this dinner. The rest sat according to their respective levels.
Aurora felt somewhat awkward. After all, she was the only woman at this dinner, and seated beside her was her new husband, but she couldn’t reveal it to the public.
