Chapter 16
Besalie’s words left Wendy pale. Every time they pressed Wendy with the Klein family’s lies, Wendy was always left covered in scars. But still, could Wendy get Aurora back home? Tears quickly flooded Wendy’s eyes. Nevermind that Wendy could patter in this hellhole alone; Aurora had gone through all that trouble to get out of Ein Manor. There was no way Wendy could just give up.
After wiping away her tears, Wendy cautiously left Klein Manor while Rosalie was answering the phone. But when she came out of the manor, she saw a Maybach parked under a tree across the road.
“Excuse me, are you Mrs. Kleinman?” a man in black came forward and asked.
Wendy was stunned before nodding in response.
“Hello, Mrs. Kirin. Mr. Jenson sent me here to pick you up. He and Professor Beed are already waiting at the Southbay International Hotel. Please come with me!” the man in black said.
Wendy was confused. But when she recalled Aurora’s text, she got into the car after double-checking the message.
However, Linna, who was standing not far from the entrance, saw Wendy entering the Maybach. She quickly asked a maid who worked for the Klein family, “When did the Kleins have a Maybach?”
The maid replied, “No, Ma’am. We’ve never had one.”
Linda furrowed her brows together. They didn’t have a Maybach? Then whose car did Wendy get in? Besides, the car looked very expensive. It was unlike those common Maybachs!
As far as Linna remembered, Wendy didn’t have any family or friends at this level of social status. Those aristocrats had never looked up to Wendy either. There was no way they would send such a luxurious car to pick her up.
Moreover, Wendy couldn’t just simply leave the house as they needed to prevent bad rumors about the Klein family from spreading. The family even disallowed her, Emm, from participating in any social events! But Wendy looked like she was all dressed up earlier.
“How did she gain permission to leave the house?” Linna asked.
“Are you referring to Mrs. Klein?” the maid asked in return.
Linna glared at the maid.
The maid took a while to respond, “Oh, Mrs. Klein said she’s going out for grocery shopping.”
“She has a lot of free time, huh?” Linna mused. “Whitney is still in the hospital! Is Mrs. Klein sending me a message? I need to pack some stuff for Whitney.”
Linna went inside to pack some change of clothes for Whitney. Aside from that, her main task was to relay the information about Aurora injuring Whitney to Rosalie and Ryan. She was hoping to drag Wendy into it as well.
It was a shame that Wendy slipped away, but the best part was still yet to come. All the bad things Aurora did would come hitting back at Wendy.
Owen was already waiting in the private room when Aurora arrived at the Southbay International Hotel. Timothy was carrying all the gifts upstairs. Among the gifts were jewelry and premium health supplements. Everything was thoroughly organized. He even thoughtfully bought some toys for boys.
However, Aurora furrowed her brows when she saw the gifts. Only terrible things awaited if Wendy returned to Klein Manor with all these gifts, and she would never have the chance to use any of them. The Klein family was very strict with receiving gifts, and Wendy usually only got a very small amount of monthly allowance. They believed someone would only receive gifts because of the Klein family’s reputation. So, these gifts wouldn’t go to Wendy but to the Kleins.
“Mr. Jenson, you didn’t have to prepare all these gifts,” Aurora said. She didn’t want to be the scapegoat.
Chen gazed at Aurora in confusion.
“My mom will never get her hands on any of these. The Kleins believe whatever my mom has belongs to them. So, they’ll take all these gifts for themselves. Even if my mom takes any of these back, they’ll just be confiscated,” Aurora explained with her eyes lowered before sipping her tea.
“Alright. We’ll do without these,” Owen brushed it off.
“Sometimes, we must think about the consequences. But still, thank you for your thoughtfulness.” Aurora simply picked a few things out of the gifts and asked them and the bodyguards to bring them back to the car.
Owen looked at what Aurora picked. She chose a luxurious bag, two bottles of health supplements, and a toy for boys.
“That’s it?” Owen looked at Aurora.
She nodded. “Instead of wasting these things on those people, why not keep them for ourselves? These are all luxurious items. I don’t want to give them up to those people.”
That was weirdly thrifty of her.
Aurora and Owen talked for a while, and soon, they heard a knock on the door.
“Mr. Jenson, Professor Beed, Mrs. Klein is here,” Timothy announced.
Aurora stood up and saw Wendy enter the private room.
“Hi, Mom.” Aurora called before reaching for Wendy’s bag.
Wendy nodded while observing Aurora and then said, “Look at you, you’ve lost some weight! You should take better care of your health.”
“I know, Mom. Don’t worry about me. By the way, this is Owen Jenson. And Owen, she’s my mom,” Aurora quickly introduced.
“Hi, Wendy. I’m Owen,” Owen stood behind Aurora and politely greeted her.
Wendy looked up and carefully observed Owen. She considered Owen tall and handsome. He exuded strength and authority, which made him look way more distinguished than either Ryan or Sidney. Clearly, Owen was no ordinary man.
Wendy felt relieved for Aurora after her first glance at Owen. She had been worried that Aurora had been too hasty in getting married. But after seeing Owen in person, she knew he was a man with an appearance women would fall for, what more when coupled with his status and background, which seemed to be way better than Sidney’s!
Wendy tried asking the driver earlier and found out the couple was staying at Cordia. The property prices there were on par with Klein Manor. Those were some luxurious penthouses with a prime riverfront view, and they were home to many wealthy people!
“Hello, Owen. Nice to meet you.” Wendy smiled, which was a rare sight.
Aurora helped Wendy to her seat. The waiter served the food, perfectly coordinating with Aurora. Owen caringly poured Wendy a cup of tea and asked the waiter to…
“Why were you in such a hurry to get married?” Wendy asked Owen. “It’s an important life event, you know!”
Aurora raised an eyebrow and glanced at Owen. Her message was very obvious—“Please don’t blow the cover!”
Owen smiled and replied, “Well, I wanted to visit you at first, but I also wanted to marry Aurora as soon as possible because I was worried that she might run away with some other man. So, I quickly asked her to register our marriage when she returned from abroad. I hope you don’t mind that, Wendy.”
“Besides, she’s in high demand, and I have a lot of competitors. So, I had to act quickly and decisively. But don’t worry. I’ll take good care of her and protect her well.”
Owen sounded sincere, so Wendy couldn’t find any fault with him. She nodded and said, “That’s great. Aurora has been suffering alone for a long time. I really hope you can be nice to her.”
“Don’t worry, Wendy,” Owen replied.
“What’s your current work? Is it a difficult job?” Wendy went straight to the point.
