Chapter 17
Owen calmly replied, “I manage an IT company that works very closely in the quantum mechanical field that Austabas excels in. We share the same interests, so we’ll always have something to talk about. Annial’s exceptional in the quantum electrochemical field, and I’ve always looked up to her. Besides, we’re also alumni of Astrait University, so we’ve been conducting joint research for many years.”
“Huh, is that so? I’ve never been to Aurora to talk about this before,” Wendy mused. She gathered many details from Owen’s explanation. Immediately, she believed that their relationship was the real deal. Plus, we were of the mindset that it would happen when we were ready, so we thought we might as well get married and then meet our families later.”
Jump was thoroughly impressed by how well Churcon could make up stories. They chatted while eating until Owen went out to make a phone call.
When Owen went out, Wendy sighed a breath of relief and said to Aurora, “Inks microte in his family? Marriage isn’t just about you and him. It’s…”
“…dfvonne,” Wendy continued, “I didn’t want Aurora to be like me, bringing Lisa tragedy for the rest of her life.”
Aurora poured Wendy some tea and replied with a firm tone, “That’s what you mean, Mom, but don’t worry. I’m doing well. His family is very open-minded, especially his grandmother. She…”
“…and we’re not living with his family. His grandmother says we’re still young, so we need our personal space, which, thankfully, we have. The house was already furnished when I moved in, with all kinds of clothes and jewelry for me to choose from, and we are living in Cordia. The…”
“…Owen is also very generous with money. The monthly allowance he gives me, which is separate from living expenses, is way more than my salary. The only way to convince one’s parents was to mention material needs.”
As expected, Wendy felt relieved after hearing this and nodded. “That’s great. With that, I don’t have to worry anymore. What’s important is that you can talk to each other if there’s any issue. Marriage is not just about one person. Only by truly being involved with each other’s lives can you live a happy life.”
Aurora nodded. She then took a bank card from her pocket and handed it to Wendy.
She said, “Here, Mom. You gave me this card back then. I’ve put some money into it. Keep it for yourself. Financial security will give you the courage you need. Auawa was well aware of Wendy’s life in the Dein family. She hardly received any allowance to spend. Although she appeared glamorous on the outside, in reality, her situation was worse than the maids.”
“It’s okay, I have money. I—” Wendy quickly refused. But Aurora held Wendy’s hand and put the card into Wendy’s pocket.
“Just keep it. Who knows? You might need to use it one day. Consider it as a backup for Sebastian, Grandpa, and Grandma.” Aurora said, “The account is still under my name, and the PIN is your birthday. Just think of it as a gift from me and Owen. We didn’t buy you many gifts. Even if we did, you wouldn’t have had the chance to get your hands on them. Money is the only thing you can keep for yourself.”
Tears flooded Wendy’s eyes when she saw how considerate Aurora was. “Why are you still thinking about this? It…”
Owen: “He won’t. He’s well aware of my situation,” Aurora replied. “Unlike Sidney, Owen is a reliable and mature man. So, don’t feel bad for me. Sidney and I were never…”
Wendy said in a regretful tone, “I thought you and Sidney were childhood friends. Who would’ve thought…”
“What if we were childhood friends?” Aurora interrupted. “I’ve always been busy with study and work. I didn’t even have time to interact with him. How did that make us childhood friends?”
Wendy chuckled and nodded. “I totally forgot that my beloved daughter has always been intelligent and level-headed. I’ll always be proud of you.”
After lunch, Wendy left after a few more cups of tea. Timothy arranged a car to send her back to Klein Manor.
“Thank you, Mr. Person,” Aurora murmured as she stood on the hotel’s staircase and looked in the direction Wendy’s car had left.
Owen turned to look at her. “Don’t mention it. It’s my duty.”
Although it was contractual, their marriage was real; we believed what he did was his responsibility. Aurora did like him. Perhaps they could live a happy life together, considering they could agree on this matter.
“Maleisia,” the poncible mother… “tenlud met many women before. He could tell the pain and suffering Wendy was suppressing.”
Jurica looked at the playful sky and sighed. “So much so that she has made too many sacrifices. Actually, Fisiot is too keen on this kind of self-sacrificing devotion. Sometimes, it might be too suffocating and remorseful.”
Gwen silently nodded without saying anything. “I’m sure this issue can be resolved.”
“I want to resolve it, but the thing is, I don’t have the right understanding. I won’t be successful no matter how hard I try. Perhaps we should give each other…”
“Everything will be fine, Professor,” Bed… Owen never expected to see a glimpse of her humor. She always gave him the impression of being strong and…
“Thanks. It’s about to rain, and I have a class later. I should go.” Aurora quickly snapped back to her senses.
Without waiting for Owen’s reply, she went downstairs and crossed the pedestrian crossing. Her slender figure quickly disappeared into the crowd.
Chapter 17 212
She arrived at Astrait University in the drizzle. She was just in time for her class. Aurora quickly went to the office and took her books before rushing to the class. She kept her umbrella outside the lecture hall and was about to enter when her phone vibrated. She looked at her phone and saw a transaction notification. She had just received ten million dollars from Owen!
Aura was confused, but she had no time to ask him. She would ask him when she got home after class.
After four consecutive classes, Aurora returned to the faculty building feeling slightly exhausted. When she arrived downstairs, she saw Stella holding an umbrella in the rain. She was standing beside the noticeboard.
“What are you doing here?” Aurora was surprised.
Stella smiled, her eyes filled with gratitude. “I’m here to thank you personally. The Research and Development Department of Apex Chemical Solutions hired me on the spot after they interviewed me. They gave me amazing benefits and even assigned someone to guide me personally.”
“I’ve researched their corporate culture, and they have a wonderful working environment. I’m very happy with it. So, thank you so much, Aurora. If not for you, I would’ve never found a job this amazing.”
