Chapter 5

Before her knees touched the floor, Jacob helped Sarah up. She stood behind him, a cocky expression on her face.

“That’s enough, Sarah. What are you trying to do? Stop causing a scene!” Jacob barked.

Causing a scene? She’d almost been beaten half to death. Jacob hadn’t helped her, yet he’d rushed to assist Queenie the moment she'd bent her knees. Her heart grew cold.

Once the assistants realized Jacob wasn't on Sarah's side, their nervousness vanished, replaced by the same cocky demeanor they'd displayed earlier. They stared at her with contempt.

Sarah looked at the bystanders, a pleading expression on her face. “If someone calls the police, I’ll give them two thousand dollars.”

Money talked. Instantly, they showed eagerness to help.

“Are you serious about that, lady?” a man holding up his phone asked earnestly.

Ignoring Jacob’s furious gaze, Sarah solemnly nodded. The bystanders began dialing 911. Jacob and the assistants’ expressions soured.

Queenie hastily knelt before Sarah, grabbing her hand and hitting herself with it. Understanding, Sarah slapped Queenie across the face. Stunned, Queenie received several more slaps. Her face quickly became red and swollen.

Everyone was dumbfounded.

Jacob shoved Sarah aside, his gaze fixed on Queenie’s face. A heartbroken expression marred his features. “What’s wrong with you, Sarah Anderson? You can’t just hit people like that!”

Sarah stared at them emotionlessly. “I wasn’t even done with her yet. Besides, I only hit her because she told me to,” she spat. “You didn’t seem concerned when they beat me up. You wouldn’t even let me call the police. This is nothing compared to what they did to me. Why are you so upset? Have you forgotten who your actual girlfriend is?”

Jacob took a small step away from Queenie. His tone softened. “I’m just trying to solve the problem amicably, baby.”

Ignoring Jacob, Sarah watched Queenie. Queenie had turned and shot a look at someone. The redhead was gone. Through the glass, Sarah saw her pointing a phone camera directly at Sarah. What was she doing now?
