โBesides, you know our remarriage was just for show. Itโs honestly not that surprising that things turned out this way. From now on, I just want to make some money and take good care of my kids.โ
โAre you still running the company?โ Jennifer asked.
โWhat else can I do? Gotta make a good life for myself,โ Teresa replied.
โDoesnโt he give you 6 million dollars a year? And when the kids go to school, itโll be 60 million a year?โ Jennifer asked.
Evelyn had told Jennifer everything. She even complained to Jennifer that Teresa didnโt know how to enjoy life, refusing to move into the big villa.
Teresa sneered inwardly, โEvelyn really does spill everything to Jennifer. She must be super fond of her!โ
She replied, โWhat he gives me is his business. I want to make it on my own. I donโt want anyone looking down on me anymore.โ
Jenniferโs heart ached for her. She said, โOh, Teresa, itโs still my fault. Honestly, Iโve held you back from so much.โ
Teresa said, โForget it, itโs all in the past now.โ Then she glanced at the time and said, โIโll come visit you again next time. And Iโll save an executive spot for you.โ
โAlright, I hope you become a real boss lady in Nareigh,โ Jennifer said.
โIโll work hard,โ Teresa replied.
โJust donโt push yourself too hard,โ Jennifer said, watching Teresa closely.
Just as Teresa was about to leave, Jennifer suddenly called after her, โWait a second.โ Then she took out a lucky charm pouch and handed it to Teresa.
She said, โI made this for Felix here in prison. Itโs not very well done, so if you donโt like it, just put it aside.โ
Teresa took the pouch.
The pouch was done by hand. In the center was the character โHappy,โ and in the bottom right corner, the name โFelixโ was stitched.
At that moment, Teresa couldnโt hold back her tears anymore. She said, โThank you, Jennifer. Iโm thanking you on your nephewโs behalf.โ
Jennifer froze, momentarily at a loss for words. She thought, โNephew? Does she still treat me as her family?โ Suddenly, tears streamed down her face. She said, โIโm sorry, Teresa. Iโm really sorry.โ
Teresa gently interrupted her, โEnough, you donโt have to say it anymore. Whatโs done is done. Letโs just move on.โ
Jennifer wiped her tears and managed a smile. She said, โNext time, Iโll make one for Mike too. Come get it when itโs ready, okay?โ
Teresa agreed, then left prison. Her eyes were red from crying. The gentle winter sunlight streamed through her car window, and for a brief moment, she felt a little warmth and comfort.
When Teresa arrived at the office, the receptionist stood up in surprise. She hadnโt expected Teresa to show up. She asked, โMs. Johnston, did you already have your baby?โ
โYeah,โ Teresa said softly.
โThat was so fast,โ the receptionist said in amazement.
Teresa didnโt bother explaining. She just headed straight for the elevator.
The receptionist couldnโt take her eyes off Teresa as she walked away. She muttered, โMs. Johnston is gorgeous. She looks even classier after having a baby.โ
โSeriously, with Horizonlead Group backing her, does she even need to work? Why is she working so hard?โ another employee whispered.
โNo clue,โ the receptionist replied.
Teresa was back in her familiar office. She drew back the curtains, letting the sunlight spill in, then made herself a cup of coffee. Only when she stood here did everything feel real again.
She thought, โThis is fine. Everythingโs finally getting back on track. This is the best it could be.โ
If Yalena hadnโt provoked her and Jennifer hadnโt been sent to prison, Teresa wouldnโt be delivering until next month. Still, she figured it was just as well things had turned out this way.
She had come to understand a lot and gained clarity about so many things. She was determined to put all her energy into making money.
Just then, her phone buzzed.
Teresa picked it up and saw Jonathanโs name on the screen. She froze for a second. She thought, โI was just about to put him out of my mind, and now he calls? Seriously, what does he want now?โ
