Chapter 1026
Teresaโs heart started pounding. Just as the call was about to end, she finally picked up. She didnโt say anything, and neither did the person on the other end.
It wasnโt until Jonathan finally spoke, โHello?โ
Hearing his familiar, deep voice, Teresa took a deep breath and tried to keep her voice steady as she asked, โWhat do you want?โ
Jonathanโs voice was tinged with impatience. He snapped, โGary said youโre back at work? You went to the office?โ
Teresaโs tone turned icy as she retorted, โIs that a problem? Iโm fully recovered. Thereโs no reason for me to stay home any longer.โ
Jonathan fell silent for a few seconds before saying, โIf the child support isnโt enough, I can give you more. Even if you want to work, thereโs no need to rush back.โ
Teresa walked over to the window and said, โThatโs unnecessary. What you give is more than enoughโI canโt even spend it all. If thereโs nothing else, Iโm busy. I have a meeting to get to.โ
Jonathan quickly asked, โDid you ask about where I was?โ
โWhat?โ Teresa asked. She didnโt hear him clearly.
Jonathan said, โBenny told me that you asked where I went. Are you really that concerned about my schedule?โ
Teresa sneered inwardly, โAs expected, Benny is still on Jonathanโs side.โ She then said, โI was just making small talk, thatโs all. Like I said beforeโwhere you go has nothing to do with me.โ
โAlright, if thatโs what you think,โ Jonathan said, a trace of resignation in his voice. He thought, โI knew she was never going to reach out to me first anyway.โ
He added, โThen Iโll say the sameโunless you come looking for me, I wonโt be the one to contact you again.โ
Teresa thought, โSo thatโs why he had Irene answer the phone and didnโt bother coming back for Mikeโs first day at kindergarten. He never even asked when Mike would start school.'
Teresa shot back, โWhy would I need to reach out to you? Iโm busy too. After work, I still have to pick up Mike.โ
Jonathan asked, โDoes Mike really need you to pick him up? Thereโs the driver, Gary, the bodyguardsโso many people you could ask. Do you have to do it yourself?โ
Teresa replied, โIโm not like you. Today is Mikeโs first day at kindergarten. Do you think heโd be happy without his parents there with him?โ
Jonathan fell silent for a moment before saying, โIโve already called the principal at the kindergarten to make sure Mikeโs taken care of, so Iโm not worried about him at all. I've been swamped these past few days, and honestly, I only found out about it today.โ
Teresa cut him off. She said, โYou donโt have to tell me what youโre busy with. I donโt care. Iโm busy too.โ She thought, โWhoever he meets withโwhether it is some female boss or a businesswomanโthat is his own business.โ
Jonathan gave a cold snort and said, โFine. Youโre busy. I wonโt bother you.โ With that, he hung up. He was getting way too used to hanging up on her.
Teresa took a deep breath and thought, โGuess thatโs just how things are now. If I canโt learn to let go, I will be the only one hurting.'
โOur remarriage was fake to begin withโletโs just treat the agreement as having expired ahead of schedule. I will become even more outstanding.'
โOne day, if I ever have to face him and Irene again, I will stand tall and dazzling before them, impossible to ignore.โ
On her way to pick up Mike from kindergarten after work, Teresa stopped by the bank. There, she happened to spot Eason and Yalena getting out of a Bentley across the street.
Yalena had been locked up for half a month and only got out last week.
