Chapter 1026

Teresa’s heart started pounding. Just as the call was about to end, she finally picked up. She didn’t say anything, and neither did the person on the other end.

It wasn’t until Jonathan finally spoke, “Hello?”

Hearing his familiar, deep voice, Teresa took a deep breath and tried to keep her voice steady as she asked, “What do you want?”

Jonathan’s voice was tinged with impatience. He snapped, “Gary said you’re back at work? You went to the office?”

Teresa’s tone turned icy as she retorted, “Is that a problem? I’m fully recovered. There’s no reason for me to stay home any longer.”

Jonathan fell silent for a few seconds before saying, “If the child support isn’t enough, I can give you more. Even if you want to work, there’s no need to rush back.”

Teresa walked over to the window and said, “That’s unnecessary. What you give is more than enough—I can’t even spend it all. If there’s nothing else, I’m busy. I have a meeting to get to.”

Jonathan quickly asked, “Did you ask about where I was?”

“What?” Teresa asked. She didn’t hear him clearly.

Jonathan said, “Benny told me that you asked where I went. Are you really that concerned about my schedule?”

Teresa sneered inwardly, ‘As expected, Benny is still on Jonathan’s side.’ She then said, “I was just making small talk, that’s all. Like I said before—where you go has nothing to do with me.”

“Alright, if that’s what you think,” Jonathan said, a trace of resignation in his voice. He thought, ‘I knew she was never going to reach out to me first anyway.’

He added, “Then I’ll say the same—unless you come looking for me, I won’t be the one to contact you again.”

Teresa thought, ‘So that’s why he had Irene answer the phone and didn’t bother coming back for Mike’s first day at kindergarten. He never even asked when Mike would start school.'

Teresa shot back, “Why would I need to reach out to you? I’m busy too. After work, I still have to pick up Mike.”

Jonathan asked, “Does Mike really need you to pick him up? There’s the driver, Gary, the bodyguards—so many people you could ask. Do you have to do it yourself?”

Teresa replied, “I’m not like you. Today is Mike’s first day at kindergarten. Do you think he’d be happy without his parents there with him?”

Jonathan fell silent for a moment before saying, “I’ve already called the principal at the kindergarten to make sure Mike’s taken care of, so I’m not worried about him at all. I've been swamped these past few days, and honestly, I only found out about it today.”

Teresa cut him off. She said, “You don’t have to tell me what you’re busy with. I don’t care. I’m busy too.” She thought, ‘Whoever he meets with—whether it is some female boss or a businesswoman—that is his own business.’

Jonathan gave a cold snort and said, “Fine. You’re busy. I won’t bother you.” With that, he hung up. He was getting way too used to hanging up on her.

Teresa took a deep breath and thought, ‘Guess that’s just how things are now. If I can’t learn to let go, I will be the only one hurting.'

‘Our remarriage was fake to begin with—let’s just treat the agreement as having expired ahead of schedule. I will become even more outstanding.'

‘One day, if I ever have to face him and Irene again, I will stand tall and dazzling before them, impossible to ignore.’

On her way to pick up Mike from kindergarten after work, Teresa stopped by the bank. There, she happened to spot Eason and Yalena getting out of a Bentley across the street.

Yalena had been locked up for half a month and only got out last week.
