Chapter 69

Jonathan was rendered speechless. There was something about Michael’s damp, imploring eyes that reminded him of her. “Goodbye, Mike,” he said.

Michael’s face lit up, surprised that Jonathan had remembered his name. Suddenly, with a shriek, Michael threw himself at Jonathan’s leg, clutching it tightly. “Mr. Lime. I’ll miss you. Let’s meet again.”

Jonathan lowered his head, feeling both amused and exasperated. When Michael finally left, Jonathan glanced at his now-ruined suit pants, smeared with tears and snot, yet somehow, he couldn’t muster any annoyance. He was sent home by the driver.

Meanwhile, Hayden muttered to himself, “That kid looks like someone I know. Just who could it be?” Hayden’s gaze shifted upward, landing on Jonathan’s face. He asked, “I can’t shake the feeling that the boy resembles someone. Who could it be?”

Jonathan replied, “I thought the same, but I’ve met his mother, and we’re not acquainted.”

Upon sensing that no further answers would come, Hayden didn’t press the matter. He was there for something more pressing—Teresa. Jonathan was already poised to address the issue. Hayden said, “Handle it. I won’t allow Teresa to suffer a single injustice. If you fail, you’ll answer to me.”

Meanwhile, Teresa returned home, entirely unaware of Michael’s secret adventure—a day spent touring Horizonlead Group before sneaking back home as if nothing had happened. Teresa received a call from Truman, and she mentioned she was planning to leave Nareigh. Truman’s eyes flickered at that. “All right. I understand.”

As the call ended, Truman turned to the woman beside him. “You heard her. She’s leaving Nareigh. Are you satisfied now? Stop scheming behind her back.”

Simona glared at Truman. She was the one who had paid Henry 1.5 million dollars to strike a deal with Philip. It was also she who had sent those incriminating photos to Jonathan. Simona’s aim wasn’t to harm Teresa but to make Jonathan lose faith in Teresa and to make Teresa leave. That was her goal.

Everything was unfolding exactly as Simona had planned. She studied Truman—her ex-boyfriend—intently. “You’re so protective of Teresa. Have you fallen for her?”

Truman pursed his lips. “She’s been through enough. And more importantly, I can’t stand the way you operate in the shadows.”

“Everyone’s selfish when it comes to love. I just want to be with Jonathan. We’re helping each other,” Simona retorted while Truman said nothing. He kept quiet about Michael.

Just when Simona thought that Teresa’s reputation was in ruins and Jonathan’s disappointment in Teresa was absolute, a twist shocked everyone. Jonathan, notoriously private and averse to media attention, suddenly made an unprecedented public statement.

“I’m Teresa Johnston’s ex-husband. She did not sleep with anyone else. I own the hotel where she had dinner. I’ll release all the surveillance footage. Everyone can see for themselves,” Jonathan declared.

The netizens erupted in chaos. After all, this was Jonathan—Nareigh’s most dazzling and eligible bachelor. Eagle-eyed netizens dug up an earlier interview where Jonathan told Teresa that he had a fiancée. When confronted about it, Jonathan explained, “I made it up to make her jealous and to provoke her.”

“Mr. Lynn, does that mean you plan to reconcile with your ex-wife?” a reporter asked.

“I’m trying to win her back, but she hasn’t agreed yet. I wasn’t attentive enough in the past and neglected her needs. That’s on me,” Jonathan replied.

The comment section overflowed with praise for Jonathan. Jonathan has it all—looks, wealth, height, and an enviable physique. What more could Teresa possibly want?

Others were quick to add: How many ex-husbands would step forward to defend their ex-wife when she’s facing public scrutiny?

Jonathan’s the first in Nareigh.

Meanwhile, Simona was so upset when she saw Jonathan clear things up for Teresa that her fingers shook angrily.
