Chapter 763
Peggyโs face twisted with rage as she finally lowered her hand. โWhatever, Iโm not agreeing with this. If you donโt give up on your stupid celebrity dream, Iโll move in right here. Wherever you go, Iโll go. Iโll stick around and make your life hell.โ
Lucas grabbed his ID and wallet from the table. โSuit yourself. Stay here if you want.โ With that, he walked out the door.
โGet back here!โ Peggy shrieked as she saw Lucas really leaving. In a fit of fury, she snatched a glass from the table and hurled it at the door. The glass shattered, with pieces flying everywhere.
Teresa left the office after work in Nareigh. She hadnโt had a single momentโs peace all day.
Jonathan and Michael kept checking in from Jarisburg, texting her every half hour or calling every hour to ask where she was and what she was up to. She had no choice but to reply every time.
She was planning to just grab something simple for dinner, but then Jonathan called. Heโd already had the babysitter go over to Rosary Estates to make dinner and insisted she come home to eat instead of grabbing food outside.
With no other option, Teresa had to drive back.
When Teresa got to the entrance of her office building, she saw a familiar Mercedes car parked there and frowned.
As she walked closer, Jennifer stepped out of the car, carrying a bag of beer. Sheโd already polished off a few beer cans before Teresa even got home.
โWhat are you doing here?โ Teresa asked, catching the strong smell of alcohol on Jennifer.
Jennifer gave a bitter little laugh. โIโm basically jobless now, and even Donald wants to divorce me.โ
Teresa was stunned at the news.
Jennifer said, โWe went to the courthouse and filed for divorce today. Now we have to wait out a thirty-day cooling-off period.โ
Teresa asked, โSo itโs because you faked a pregnancy and lied to him? He found out and got really angry, and thatโs why he wants a divorce, right?โ
Jennifer didnโt deny it. She gave a small nod. โYeah, that was the main reason.โ
Teresa let out a cold laugh. โYou were the one who chose to use a baby as a lie, turning it into your bargaining chip. I told you before, you shouldโve just told the truth sooner. But now, look at you. All I can say is that you did this to yourself.โ
Jennifer looked up, a little irritated. โI didnโt come here just to get scolded by you.โ
All she wanted was a bit of comfort and some warmth from family. Even though she and Teresa werenโt real sisters anymore, in her heart, Jennifer still saw Teresa as her sister.
Teresa shook her head. โI canโt comfort you. Back when I was the one in trouble, all you ever did was lecture me and blame me for everything.โ
Jennifer was left speechless. After a moment, she rubbed her forehead. โAm I really that bad? I justโฆ I really thought I was protecting my family, at least from my own perspective.โ
โDid you ever even think about how Donald feels?โ Teresa pressed. โYouโre his wife. You share a bed with him every single night, but you completely shattered his heart. Thatโs why he wants a divorce.โ
Jennifer went silent, her eyes filling with tears once more.
Teresa honestly didnโt know what to say. She was genuinely surprised because she never thought Donald would actually divorce Jennifer. โIf you really want to fix things, then use this thirty-day cooling-off period and do your best to win him back.โ
โI told him Iโd change, but he just wonโt listen to me anymore,โ Jennifer murmured.
Teresa said, โYou keep saying youโll change, but have you actually done anything about it? Deep down, you still donโt really think you did anything wrong, do you? You always think youโre right. You control everything, guilt-trip people, and bite the hand that feeds you, twisting othersโ kindness into something wrong. You never admit when youโre wrong. Maybe, when you finally see youโre wrong, then you can try to win him back.โ
If someone didnโt truly regret what they had done but just put on an act, it was pointless, and it wouldnโt change a thing.
Jennifer looked at Teresa, her eyes full of desperation. โIf I truly regret what I did, will he really not divorce me? I really love Donald. If I lose him, I donโt even want to live anymore.โ
