Chapter 764

Teresa thought she had misheard. โ€œWhat did Jennifer say? She doesnโ€™t want to live anymore?โ€ she wondered.

Jennifer said, โ€œWhatโ€™s the point of living without Donald?โ€

Teresa tried to comfort her. โ€œThese days, everyone can live on their own. Iโ€™m divorced now, and Iโ€™m still doing just fine.โ€ She thought, โ€œThe world keeps turning. Thereโ€™s no need to dwell on it.โ€

Jennifer suddenly dropped to the ground, looking completely shattered. โ€œIโ€™ve lost everything. No love, no career, and not even the baby I was carrying. Thereโ€™s nothing left for me.โ€

As she spoke, she wiped away her tears. โ€œI have to find my real mom and get her to acknowledge me. Maybe then Donald will see how rough my life has been, feel sorry for me, and call off the divorce.โ€

Teresaโ€™s expression was complicated. โ€œIf a man only stays with you out of pity, is that really a marriage worth having? Come on, snap out of it.โ€

โ€œI am clear-headed, Teresa. I just canโ€™t lose him. Right now, I only have two wishes: to find my birth mother and hope Donald wonโ€™t divorce me,โ€ Jennifer replied.

Teresa hesitated for a long time before finally saying, โ€œJust donโ€™t get your hopes up too much.โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Jennifer looked up sharply.

Teresa sighed. โ€œI mean, people change. Maybe your birth mother isnโ€™t the same person she used to be. After all, sheโ€™s in the plastic surgery business.โ€

Jennifer slowly stood up. โ€œI donโ€™t care what she looks like. Evelyn said sheโ€™s a strong, independent woman. Thatโ€™s all that matters to me.โ€

Teresa pressed her lips together, wanting to say something but holding back. โ€œIโ€™ll drive you home.โ€

โ€œNo, Iโ€™ll drive myself,โ€ Jennifer said.

Teresa rolled her eyes. โ€œYouโ€™ve been drinking. How are you going to drive?โ€ She snatched Jenniferโ€™s car keys, shoved her into the car, and drove her home.

Jennifer leaned back in the passenger seat and let out a bitter laugh. โ€œYou wonโ€™t even drink with me anymore?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m pregnant. How could I possibly drink with you?โ€ Teresa replied.

โ€œYeah, youโ€™re right.โ€ Jennifer rubbed her forehead. โ€œSorry, Iโ€™ve had so much to drink that my head is all fuzzy.โ€

โ€œJust go home and get some sleep. Iโ€™ve said all I needed to today. Even if it really comes to a divorce, youโ€™ll just have to accept it and move on,โ€ Teresa said.

She thought, โ€œIsnโ€™t it true that everyone has to pay for their mistakes?โ€

Jennifer still shook her head. โ€œI wonโ€™t get divorced. Iโ€™m sure he wonโ€™t actually go through with it. But if he really does, I really canโ€™t go on.โ€

Teresa just remained silent as she drove.

After dropping Jennifer off, Teresa took a cab home. The whole way, she couldnโ€™t stop thinking about what Jennifer had said.

If Jennifer really did something to herself, Evelyn would be heartbroken. In Evelynโ€™s eyes, even though Jennifer isnโ€™t her real daughter, she still treats her like family. She never wanted to hurt Jennifer, Teresa thought.

When Teresa got home, Michael wanted to video call. She took a deep breath, forced a smile, and answered.

โ€œMom!โ€ Michaelโ€™s voice came through.

โ€œHey, sweetie,โ€ Teresa said, sitting on the couch and holding up her phone. She noticed the crystal chandelier behind Michael and asked, โ€œWhere are you guys staying?โ€

Michael propped his chin on his hand. โ€œWeโ€™re at Mr. Daddy Limeโ€™s big villa, of course. We were there last time. Donโ€™t you remember?โ€

Teresa smiled and said, โ€œThatโ€™s great. You must be having a blast living in such a big villa, huh?โ€

โ€œMr. Limeโ€™s a bit down. He said he misses you,โ€ Michael said.

Teresa was stunned to hear that.

Suddenly, a slender hand appeared on the screen, taking the phone, and Jonathanโ€™s handsome face came into view. โ€œOh, I never said that,โ€ he said.
