Chapter 764
Teresa thought she had misheard. โWhat did Jennifer say? She doesnโt want to live anymore?โ she wondered.
Jennifer said, โWhatโs the point of living without Donald?โ
Teresa tried to comfort her. โThese days, everyone can live on their own. Iโm divorced now, and Iโm still doing just fine.โ She thought, โThe world keeps turning. Thereโs no need to dwell on it.โ
Jennifer suddenly dropped to the ground, looking completely shattered. โIโve lost everything. No love, no career, and not even the baby I was carrying. Thereโs nothing left for me.โ
As she spoke, she wiped away her tears. โI have to find my real mom and get her to acknowledge me. Maybe then Donald will see how rough my life has been, feel sorry for me, and call off the divorce.โ
Teresaโs expression was complicated. โIf a man only stays with you out of pity, is that really a marriage worth having? Come on, snap out of it.โ
โI am clear-headed, Teresa. I just canโt lose him. Right now, I only have two wishes: to find my birth mother and hope Donald wonโt divorce me,โ Jennifer replied.
Teresa hesitated for a long time before finally saying, โJust donโt get your hopes up too much.โ
โWhat do you mean?โ Jennifer looked up sharply.
Teresa sighed. โI mean, people change. Maybe your birth mother isnโt the same person she used to be. After all, sheโs in the plastic surgery business.โ
Jennifer slowly stood up. โI donโt care what she looks like. Evelyn said sheโs a strong, independent woman. Thatโs all that matters to me.โ
Teresa pressed her lips together, wanting to say something but holding back. โIโll drive you home.โ
โNo, Iโll drive myself,โ Jennifer said.
Teresa rolled her eyes. โYouโve been drinking. How are you going to drive?โ She snatched Jenniferโs car keys, shoved her into the car, and drove her home.
Jennifer leaned back in the passenger seat and let out a bitter laugh. โYou wonโt even drink with me anymore?โ
โIโm pregnant. How could I possibly drink with you?โ Teresa replied.
โYeah, youโre right.โ Jennifer rubbed her forehead. โSorry, Iโve had so much to drink that my head is all fuzzy.โ
โJust go home and get some sleep. Iโve said all I needed to today. Even if it really comes to a divorce, youโll just have to accept it and move on,โ Teresa said.
She thought, โIsnโt it true that everyone has to pay for their mistakes?โ
Jennifer still shook her head. โI wonโt get divorced. Iโm sure he wonโt actually go through with it. But if he really does, I really canโt go on.โ
Teresa just remained silent as she drove.
After dropping Jennifer off, Teresa took a cab home. The whole way, she couldnโt stop thinking about what Jennifer had said.
If Jennifer really did something to herself, Evelyn would be heartbroken. In Evelynโs eyes, even though Jennifer isnโt her real daughter, she still treats her like family. She never wanted to hurt Jennifer, Teresa thought.
When Teresa got home, Michael wanted to video call. She took a deep breath, forced a smile, and answered.
โMom!โ Michaelโs voice came through.
โHey, sweetie,โ Teresa said, sitting on the couch and holding up her phone. She noticed the crystal chandelier behind Michael and asked, โWhere are you guys staying?โ
Michael propped his chin on his hand. โWeโre at Mr. Daddy Limeโs big villa, of course. We were there last time. Donโt you remember?โ
Teresa smiled and said, โThatโs great. You must be having a blast living in such a big villa, huh?โ
โMr. Limeโs a bit down. He said he misses you,โ Michael said.
Teresa was stunned to hear that.
Suddenly, a slender hand appeared on the screen, taking the phone, and Jonathanโs handsome face came into view. โOh, I never said that,โ he said.
