Chapter 871
Before Lucas left, he reminded Teresa of many things, giving her plenty of heartfelt advice. โIf you ever have anything on your mind, you can always talk to me. Iโll always be your strongest support.โ
Teresa agreed, and after Lucas left, some movers showed up, delivering several packages. But none of them belonged to Teresa. The people finally admitted they were actually staff from a department store.
All of the deliveries were the latest seasonal collections from brands like Chanel and Hermรจs, including clothes, bags, and jewelry. Jonathan was the one who had them sent over.
The staff began transforming the room, filling every inch with luxury clothes and sparkling jewelry. Gleaming gems and ornate accessories turned the space into something straight out of a princessโs boudoir.
Under the dazzling lights, the marble floor gleamed spotless, the walls were covered with designer bags, and the wardrobes overflowed with brand-new outfits.
Teresa called Jonathan. Jonathan had been on a business trip in Eleneburg, but heโd rushed back in such a hurry that he missed out on a major deal.
Even though he was swamped, he still found a moment to answer Teresaโs call. โI bought all that stuff for you,โ he said. โYou donโt have to feel embarrassed about it. From now on, if I get you anything, just take it, okay?โ
Teresa said, โIโm not embarrassed about it, butโโ
โNo buts,โ Jonathan cut her off. โI know youโre worried people will talk since weโre divorced, but you donโt have to care about that gossip. Who says an ex-husband canโt spoil his ex-wife?โ
Teresa couldnโt come up with a single comeback. Hearing all the noise on his end, she figured he was probably out entertaining clients. Not wanting to bother him, she said, โGo ahead and get back to work. I wonโt bother you.โ
โYouโre not bothering me at all,โ Jonathan said. โHonestly, Iโm really glad you called. You donโt have to be so polite to me. I like to spend money on you. If youโre happy, then Iโm happy too, alright?โ
โOh, just get back to work then.โ Teresa suspected he might be drunk. His tone was perfectly calm, but it still sounded like some drunk talk.
After hanging up, the nanny came over and told Teresa that her healthy meal was ready, and she should come and eat. Teresaโs appetite had been great these past couple of days. These were the most comfortable days she had had since becoming pregnant again.
Jonathan was out drinking with his clients. He wasnโt much of a drinker, but he missed out on that big deal in Eleneburg. Family emergency or not, a broken promise was a broken promise. In the business world, that was a major taboo.
Still, the clients trusted Jonathanโs skills and reputation, and since there was plenty of profit to go around, they decided to give him another shot.
There were several business partners dining at the swankiest hotel in Nareigh. A bottle of 1980 Louis XIII was placed on their table. Jonathan had to toast with everyone, and by the end of the night, heโd knocked back well over a dozen drinks.
Finally, after sealing the deal and signing the contract, Jonathan forced himself to stay steady as he got into the car. The car window was rolled down. Jonathan raised his hand to his forehead, trying to catch his breath.
His ears were flushed red from the drinking. On his left wrist, he still wore the watch Teresa had given him last year. By the time they reached the villa, Keith had to half-carry Jonathan out of the car. He was already barely conscious.
Michael was still up, and as soon as he heard the door open, he came running out barefoot, calling out, โDad!โ
He looked down, smiled, and scooped Michael up into his arms. โMike, my sweet boy, why are you still up?โ
He kissed Michael on the forehead, then on the left cheek, and the right.
โGeez Michael was so dared by all the kisses he nearly fainted right there in Jonathanโs arms.
Jonathan set him down and then staggered upstairs, calling, โHoney.โ
