A flicker of disappointment crossed Michael’s face. After breakfast, Miriam was going to come over to see Teresa. With everything that had happened lately, Teresa wanted to pray for the baby in the temple. She just hoped the baby would be born healthy and safe.

Miriam said, “I’ll go with you to South Mountain. Prayers really work over there.”

Teresa wanted to go too, and she told Jonathan about it. For the sake of their baby’s safe arrival, they were both making an effort. At least now, they could talk without arguing anymore.

Jonathan said, “Let me go pray instead. You should just rest.”

Teresa replied, “It’s more sincere if I go myself. I’ll be quick.”

Jonathan had no choice but to give in.

Miriam and Edward tagged along. Miriam went up the mountain to the temple of love, while Teresa stayed to pray to the Goddess of Mercy. She offered incense and prayed. She’d never been religious before, but now she was sincerely praying for the baby.

She prayed that the goddess would bless her unborn child with a safe birth and keep her eldest son, Michael, healthy and safe. As long as her children were well, she wanted nothing else in this world.

Jonathan also offered a sincere prayer to the goddess, asking only for Teresa and the baby to be safe and well. He wanted nothing more.

Miriam and Edward came back from the top of the mountain. Miriam said to Teresa, “There were so many red ribbons hanging from the Matchmaker Tree, some for wishes, some for thanks. Edward and I almost couldn’t find a spot to hang ours.”

Suddenly, Jonathan remembered something and asked Edward, “Did you see anything?”

Edward blinked in confusion. “See what?”

“Never mind,” Jonathan said. He’d hung something on that tree before, too. Back when he’d just gotten divorced, he wrote down a wish and hung it on the tree.

His sight landed on Teresa for a moment, and then he looked away. ‘Never mind. It’s not important anymore,’ he told himself. That wish he left on the tree would never come true anyway.

On the way back, Lucas went to Risemon World Studios, so Teresa went to Rosary Estates to grab her keys. Jonathan stayed with her the whole time. For some reason, Teresa felt that someone was following her. She kept looking over her shoulder.

Jonathan asked her, “What’s wrong? What are you looking at?”

‘Am I just imagining things?’ Teresa wondered. ‘Why does it feel like someone was watching me?’

Once they got in the car and drove away, not far off, a woman dressed in black pulled the brim of her baseball cap down low, her eyes brimming with tears.

‘Now that I see you’re doing well, I can finally be at ease,’ Jennifer thought to herself. She quickly wiped her tears away. She’d actually already come back to Nareigh yesterday.

When Jennifer called Teresa from Nymont, she could tell from Teresa’s voice that something was off. Not feeling at ease, she booked an early flight home.

She happened to see Teresa moving things at Rosary Estates, and that was when she realized Teresa had moved in with Jonathan.

During these days away on her own, Jennifer finally realized just how generous Teresa had always been to her, and how much patience and tolerance Teresa had shown.

Chapter 873

She often found herself full of regret. If only she could go back and treat Teresa better, maybe Miriam wouldn’t have gotten bored and decided to request a DNA test.

Maybe she could still be Teresa’s sister, and her life would have stayed peaceful and steady. Maybe she never would have had to learn the ugly truth about her own birth mother.

Now, after everything that had happened, Jennifer didn’t even know who to blame anymore. All she knew was that seeing Teresa living well was enough to put her mind at ease.

Just as Jennifer was about to turn and leave, she heard a woman behind her on the phone, gossiping about Teresa.
