Chapter 894
Benny took a sip of his red wine and said casually, โTrust me, get your mom a man.โ
Jonathanโs eyes sharpened as he stared at Benny, thinking he had lost his mind.
Benny curved his fingers and tapped the table. โIโm not joking. From what Iโve observed, Mrs. Lynn is starved for love. Sheโs been alone all these years, and thatโs why she needs attention. Get her some guys to keep her company.โ
Jonathan frowned. โI tried to set her up on dates, but she refused. She said she was done with marriage.โ
Benny felt speechless. โIโm not saying get you a stepdad. I mean, get a few men to give your mother emotional support, got it? Like taking her out and having dinner with her โ not about marriage or papers.โ
Jonathan frowned again.
Seeing Jonathanโs obvious disbelief, Benny added, โTrust me. I know women well, and I can tell she needs someone to spoil her. Get her a few men whoโll shower her with sweet words, keep her busy, and she wonโt have time to bother you.โ
โIโll think about it,โ Jonathan said, catching sight of Michael riding his scooter over, so he quickly dropped the subject.
Benny also saw Michael. The kid, just over three, was pretty good on his scooter.
โMr. Daddy Lime, Iโm hungry,โ Michael said, parking his scooter in front of Jonathan and hugging his leg with a little pout. The nanny wasnโt around.
Jonathan picked up Michael and said, โSure. I will make you some food.โ
Seeing this, Benny grabbed his coat and stood up. โIโm leaving then. Just call me if you need anything.โ
Michael turned to look at Benny, saying, โBunny, you can have my scooter. Just take it home.โ
Benny looked at the little scooter, feeling both amused and speechless.
Jonathan made Michaelโs favorite meatballs, steak, and some soup. The little one swallowed and said, โIโm going to call Mom and tell her to come home for dinner.โ
โWait a second.โ Jonathan reached out and stopped Michael. โTry this. Iโll call her.โ
Michael nodded and watched as Jonathan walked toward Teresaโs bedroom.
Jonathan didnโt make the call. Instead, he sat quietly on Teresaโs bed for a while. Her scent lingered in the room, and he pulled a pillow from the bed and held it close, breathing in the faint trace of her.
When Jonathan finally came out of the room, he saw Michael sitting there, just staring at the food without taking a single bite.
โWhy didnโt you eat?โ Jonathan asked.
โIโm waiting for Mom so we can eat together. Mr. Daddy Lime, did you call her?โ Michael asked.
โI did,โ Jonathan replied. He felt a little sad as he gently stroked Michaelโs hair. โSheโs having some issues at your old house. Iโll go get her tonight, okay?โ
Michael nodded and began to eat. He trusted Jonathan fully.
Jonathan wasnโt hungry. He just quietly watched Michael eat.
Michael took a meatball from his plate and put it in Jonathanโs mouth. โMr. Daddy Lime, arenโt you hungry? It tastes really good.โ
โAlright, Iโll try some.โ Jonathan nodded and began to eat as well.
Chapter 894
After dinner at Rosary Estates, Teresa noticed Jennifer rolling up her sleeves while washing dishes, revealing a long scar.
โWhat happened to your arm?โ Teresa grabbed Jenniferโs arm, frowning at the long, scary scar that reached her forearm.
โItโs okay. I got it when I was a kid.โ Jennifer pulled her arm back calmly and rolled her sleeve down.
โIt hasnโt even scabbed yet. Itโs clearly a fresh wound. How did you get it?โ Teresa pressed.
Jennifer pursed her lips, said nothing, and kept washing dishes.
Teresa asked her whether Irene hurt her.
Jennifer said casually as she kept washing the dishes, โI got into a fight with a thief in a motel. He cut me with a knife.โ
Teresa was shocked. Jennifer had been taking time off alone, staying in a cheap motel in a strange town to save money. The small room was dark, the door broken. One night, a thief broke in and rummaged around her bed, waking her up.
The thief saw that Jennifer was somewhat attractive and got aroused. Jennifer fought desperately with him. During the struggle, she grabbed the bedside lamp and smashed it onto his head.
Enraged, the thief grabbed his knife and cut Jenniferโs arm. The noise was loud and caught the front deskโs attention. When he came and caught the thief, blood from Jenniferโs arm was all over the floor.
Teresa couldnโt help but say seriously, โWhen youโre alone in a remote place, you really should find a decent hotel.โ
Jennifer smiled bitterly. โI didnโt have much cash left, so I thought I should try to save money.โ
โWait, did you get nothing from divorcing Donald?โ Teresa asked.
Jennifer answered quietly, โYes, I didnโt want anything from him.โ
Teresa frowned in confusion. โWhy? Come on, you lost a child. Didnโt he give you anything to make you feel better?โ
Jennifer explained, โI told Donald it was my decision to have the abortion. I didnโt want any compensation.โ
Teresa suddenly understood. โWhy didnโt you tell him the baby was lost because of a car accident?โ
Jenniferโs eyes filled with tears. โJust like you, I needed a firm reason to divorce.โ
Teresa fell silent, not sure what to say. She bought some scar treatment creams online and had them shipped over.
She said, โI got you some medicated creams. Theyโll arrive shortly.โ
โThank you, Teresa,โ Jennifer replied, feeling touched.
Teresa suggested, โYou better tell Donald the miscarriage was caused by a car accident. He needs to know. Even if you donโt want to tell him, youโve got to hash out the divorce settlement properly.โ
Jennifer shook her head as she kept washing the dishes. โNo. His salary is not that high, and the only thing of real value he has is the house his parents bought. I donโt want to take anything from him.โ
Teresa fell silent again, realizing Jenniferโs situation was much like her own years ago, except she was harder since she was pregnant.
Jennifer dried her hands and said, โIโll leave once the divorce paperwork is done next week.โ
โWhere are you going? Are you going to Ms. Nelson?โ said Teresa.
