Listen to this chapter:

After wrapping up unfinished business, Jonathan found Donald waiting in the reception room.

Seeing him come in, Donald got up and said, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

Jonathan stepped closer to Donald, squinting. โ€œYou called Teresa and told her to go to the police station to deal with Jenniferโ€™s mess, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Donald explained, โ€œI called you, but you didnโ€™t answer. I couldnโ€™t find anyone else to help. Anyway, Jennifer hit Aunt Irene because of Teresa, so I thought she needed to know.โ€

Jonathan knocked the files off the desk with one hand. โ€œJust like you worry about your wife, I worry about mine. Teresa is seven months pregnant, and you actually dared to send her there. What if something happened to her on the way?โ€

Donald fell silent. Indeed, if anything happened to Teresa on the road, he couldnโ€™t bear the consequences.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Jonathan. I was too anxious to think it through. I called you twice, but you didnโ€™t answer,โ€ Donald said.

Jonathan frowned. โ€œCouldnโ€™t you wait? Jennifer and my mom were already at the police station at that time. What could possibly happen with the cops present?โ€

Donald went quiet again, trying to explain, but Jonathan grabbed his collar and pulled him right up.

He warned, โ€œIโ€™m not your real brother, but I've done all I can for you. I care about Teresa and the kids more than myself. If anything happened to her and she ended up in the hospital, I would kill you.โ€

After saying that, Jonathan let go of him.

He was absolutely furious. At first, he thought Irene was the one who called Teresa and told her to go to the police station, but it turned out to be Donald.

It would be understandable if Donald hadnโ€™t known about Teresaโ€™s pregnancy. However, now that the entire Lynn family knew she was about to give birth, it just meant Donald didnโ€™t give a damn about her safety.

Donald said nervously, โ€œPlease donโ€™t be angry. I wonโ€™t do it again. I was just really worried about Jennifer.โ€

โ€œEnough,โ€ Jonathan cut him off, clearly irritated. โ€œWho you worry about is none of my business. No matter what happens next time, donโ€™t disturb Teresa.โ€

โ€œYeah, I get it. Iโ€™m sorry. By the way, how is Aunt Irene? Is she okay?โ€ Donald asked.

โ€œThatโ€™s none of your business,โ€ Jonathan said coldly, dismissing him.

Jennifer went back to Rosary Estates and recounted the incident to Teresa. Teresa sighed. โ€œYou totally lost it this time. Donโ€™t do it again. You almost got arrested for this.โ€

Jennifer disagreed. โ€œYouโ€™re the one who lost it. I warned you that bitch isnโ€™t easy to deal with. Sheโ€™s trying to take the kidโ€™s custody. Why did you apologize to her?โ€

Teresa said angrily, โ€œPut yourself in my shoes, will you? Irene had already hired a lawyer to fight me for custody back then. Jonathan wasnโ€™t around, and I freaked out.โ€

She thought, โ€˜Do you think I was willing to submit to Irene? If so, I wouldnโ€™t have divorced Jonathan.โ€™

Jennifer paused for a moment and continued, โ€œDonโ€™t do that again. That crazy woman already looks down on us. The more you grovel, the more she despises you.โ€

โ€œI know. As long as she doesnโ€™t touch my kid, I wonโ€™t let her bully me. I canโ€™t lose the kids,โ€ Teresa replied.

Jennifer said, โ€œEven if she uses the child to threaten you, you have no reason to fear. Youโ€™ve got custody, so youโ€™re safe."

Jennifer continued firmly, "There are lots of good guys out there. Why do you have to hold onto Jonathan, whose mother constantly picks fights with you? Unless Irene dies, sheโ€™ll never let you have peace.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t want to talk about this anymore,โ€ Teresa said, exhausted. โ€œI want us to stop the old drama. No more reckless crap from either of us."

Jennifer finally fell silent, not wanting to revisit the past either. She nodded and said, โ€œIโ€™ve got your back from now on. Rest a bit. Iโ€™ll call you when the meal is ready.โ€

Teresa was too worn out to talk. She was exhausted and sleepy. She went to her previous room and napped for two hours, then woke up to the smell of food.

Jennifer made Teresaโ€™s favorite dishes, including some potato soup. As they ate, both grew noticeably calmer.

Jennifer poured a glass of milk for Teresa. โ€œI bought it this morning. It tastes better than what I got before.โ€

โ€œThanks,โ€ Teresa said.

Jennifer smiled. โ€œYou need to rest more during your pregnancy. Donโ€™t wear yourself out. By the way, arenโ€™t you staying with Jonathan for the next few days?โ€

Teresa replied, โ€œNo. Irene is back, and sheโ€™s probably gonna pick on me if we live together. Iโ€™ve already told Jonathan that I wonโ€™t be staying at home. Iโ€™m really exhausted.โ€

โ€œThen tell him to bring Mike back,โ€ Jennifer said.

โ€œOkay, weโ€™ll figure it out tomorrow,โ€ Teresa said.

Jennifer warned her not to let Michael spend too much time with Jonathan.

Teresa sighed and said seriously, โ€œI have custody of Mike now, but heโ€™s going to grow up. Whether itโ€™s him or the baby Iโ€™m carrying, if they want to live with their dad in the future, I wonโ€™t stop them.โ€

Jennifer was stunned.

Teresa knew what she was doing. The kid was still young, but once he grew up and started thinking for himself, he might want to experience what it was like to live with his dad, especially when his dad was someone as rich as Jonathan.

Jennifer thought, โ€˜It would be great if Teresa had someone to lean on. However, neither Philip nor Evelyn could be that for her.โ€™

Teresa put down her fork. โ€œIโ€™m full.โ€

Jennifer could tell Teresa was upset, but that was what she had to face. This wasnโ€™t some fairytale where love between a prince and princess could magically solve everything. This was a harsh reality.

โ€œDonโ€™t let love cloud your judgment,โ€ Jennifer said while Teresa was leaving.

โ€œI know. Iโ€™m not some lovesick fool,โ€ Teresa replied.

Jonathan went back to Forlisle Rose Estates. He sat gloomily on a bench, drinking. In front of him was a vast swimming pool. Benny jumped in, splashing water all over Jonathanโ€™s pants.

Jonathan frowned. โ€œI called you here to drink with me, not to swim in my house.โ€

Benny got out of the pool, drying his hair with a towel before sitting down. โ€œDrinking wonโ€™t solve your problems. Hey, Jonathan, Iโ€™ve got an idea for you.โ€
