Chapter 909
Irene saw the news that Jonathan was taken away by the Department of Justice. It felt like someone had purposely sent her the message. She tried to contact Jonathan right away, but couldnโt get through.
She went to Horizonlead Group and asked Bobby, Jonathanโs secretary. Bobby nodded and confirmed it. Jonathan was just under investigation. He might not even be found guilty. Once the investigation is over, heโll probably be able to come back.
โBut what if he never comes back?โ Irene thought. Her legs suddenly got weak.
โMrs. Lynn.โ Bobby rushed over and caught Irene just as she was about to collapse.
Ireneโs face went completely white, her lips trembling. โI saw on the news. Theyโre saying Jonathan allegedly made $10 million through insider trading. Thatโs just impossible. Heโs already so wealthy. Why would he risk everything for just $10 million?โ
โThatโs right, Mr. Lynn would never do something like that. Please try not to worry, Iโll get you a glass of water,โ Bobby said gently. While Bobby was gone to get the water, Irene left.
Irene just couldnโt calm down. Jonathan was her pillar of strength. If he fell, she couldnโt even imagine how miserable, helpless, and desolate the rest of her life would become. Sheโd have to face criticism and attacks from every direction.
But what terrified her the most was that if Jonathan was really found guilty of insider trading, paying compensation would only be part of it. He could even be sentenced to five years or more in prison.
Jonathan once stood above everyone else. How could I possibly accept that he is suddenly going to prison?โ Irene thought, simply unable to accept it. Without wasting a second, Irene rushed straight to Rosary Estates.
โTeresa, get out here. I know youโre in there. This is all your fault, you vixen. Did you tempt Jonathan into breaking the law? Now the police have taken him away. Get out here, right now,โ Irene screamed.
The door suddenly swung open. Irene froze when she saw Jenniferโs dark, stormy face. The memory of Jennifer slapping her hard several times was still vivid in her mind, and she instinctively took a few steps back.
โWhereโs Teresa?โ Irene demanded.
โSheโs not here,โ Jennifer replied.
โI donโt believe you. I need to see her. I have to ask her what sheโs up to,โ Irene said, pushing past Jennifer and barging inside.
Irene shoved Jennifer aside and stormed in, glancing around, but Teresa was nowhere to be found. Irene thought Jennifer must have hidden Teresa somewhere.
โGet Teresa out here. I need to talk to her. If Jonathan ends up in prison, I swear Iโll make sure your sister suffers from it,โ Irene screamed.
Jennifer shoved Irene hard, knocking her straight to the ground. Sheโd seen the news too. Jennifer snapped, โWatch your mouth. If Jonathan didnโt break the law, heโd be out soon enough. Why are you blaming Teresa for your own mess?โ
โHow is it not her fault? Every time Jonathan gets tangled up with her, nothing good ever happens. Sheโs a total jinx,โ Irene shot back.
โYouโre the real jinx. You always turn to Teresa when in trouble. She endured you for so long and finally freed herself through divorce. Now, Jonathanโs life is a messโall because of you. You should be the one locked up,โ Jennifer fired back.
Jennifer got right in Ireneโs face, their noses almost touching. Irene instinctively covered her face, which had only just healed from the last time Jennifer slapped her. โAre you going to hit me again? Help! Sheโs going to hit me again.โ
Jennifer yanked Irene up and hauled her to the door. โHitting you would just dirty my hands, you old hag. You cursed your husband to death, and now youโre cursing Jonathan too. Get out of here and stop making a scene in our house.โ
Jennifer said that Irene had been so unlucky that her husband was dead, which made Ireneโs face turn pale instantly.
She looked like a completely different person, eyes wild, and suddenly lunged at Jennifer, grabbing her collar like a madwoman. โWhat did you just say? Dare you to say that again.โ
