Chapter 912
Irene choked on her words and couldnโt say a thing. Benny patted Gary on the shoulder. โIโll go see whatโs going on at the Department of Justice. Iโll leave things here to you.โ
โGot it,โ Gary nodded.
Benny picked up Michael and left. Seeing Gary there, Irene stood up. โWhere are you going?โ Gary grabbed Irene. โNow I have to keep an eye on you for Jonathan.โ
Irene shook Garyโs grip off. โSeriously, youโre even more annoying than your mom. Canโt I just go to the bathroom?โ With that, she turned and walked away.
Meanwhile, Teresa realized Michael was missing. She asked the nanny, but the nanny just looked totally lost and shook her head, having no clue at all.
โHow could a kid go missing right under our noses? If heโs really gone, weโre totally done for,โ the nanny thought.
The nanny was about to burst into tears, and the security guard at the entrance looked even more panicked. He swore he hadnโt seen Michael at all. โHow could he just disappear like that?โ they wondered.
The villa has tight security, and private residences are strictly off-limits to outsiders. Even an ant would need to pass through surveillance to leave. A child could not leave without the security guards noticing.
They checked the security cameras. That was when Teresa saw Michael had slipped into Garyโs car while she was distracted talking to him. Then Gary drove off.
โSo Michael must be with Gary at the police station, right?โ Teresa wondered.
Teresa tried calling Gary, but he didnโt pick up. She waited for a while, but she just couldnโt wait any longer. She was already worried sick about Jonathan and Jennifer, and now Michael was missing too.
Teresa was stopped by security guards at the gate. Jonathan had instructed that she must not leave unless there was an earthquake, fire, or tsunami. Her body couldnโt handle any more stress.
Teresa stood her ground at the gate, facing off against the security guard. โPlease, just let me go. Iโll be back really soon. Iโm just going to pick up my kid and come right back.โ
โIโm sorry, Ms. Johnston, but you absolutely canโt leave,โ the guard said firmly.
โI promise Iโll be back really soon,โ Teresa insisted. But the guard wasnโt budging this time.
Suddenly, a car pulled up. Teresa fixed her gaze on the black Bentley. At that moment, she desperately hoped it was Jonathan getting out. But she was disappointed. The window rolled down slowly, and it was Yalena sitting inside.
โOh, look at you, pregnant and still daring to step outside. Youโd better stay home and behave yourself. Donโt get yourself arrested like your hubby did,โ Yalena said smugly.
Then she turned to Eason beside her. โDad, this is the infamous ex-wife of Jonathan I told you about. Waitโโ
Yalena spat out the words. โTurns out they got back together, so now sheโs Mrs. Lynn.โ
Eason gave Teresa another look. It was his first time seeing Teresa. She really was a pretty girl. But for some reason, Eason felt like her face looked oddly familiar.
Eason sneered, โWhen disaster strikes, even married couples go their separate ways. Youโre pregnant, maybe you should make other plans for you and your kid.โ
Teresa curled her lips into a faint smile. โHate to break it to you, but my husband and I are in this together, no matter what.โ
Yalena scoffed. โDid you hear that, Dad? She says sheโs sticking with Jonathan. Bet she just canโt let go of his money โ hoping heโll end up in jail so she can make off with everything.โ
Eason glanced at Teresa and thought, โReally? She honestly didnโt seem like that kind of girl.โ
