The security guard let the car in. A black Mercedes-Benz G-Class drove into the yard. When the man got out of the car, Teresa realized it was Gary and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Gary rushed over to Teresa, panting. โTeresa, I saw the news about Jonathan. He called me in a hurry and told me that if he canโt make it back for now, I should escort you and Mike to Jarisburg ahead of time.โ
Teresa shook her head. โHow am I supposed to leave in a situation like this? Itโs not just Jonathan; Jenniferโs in trouble too.โ
โWhat?โ Gary asked, looking confused. โWhat happened to Jennifer? Wasnโt she traveling outside?โ
Teresa sighed. โShe came back a while ago. Irene is suing her for faking the DNA test results between Mike and Jonathan. Irene has completely exposed everything now.โ
Teresa couldnโt figure out why Irene would suddenly go after Jennifer like this. Something must have happened between the two of them, Teresa thought.
Garyโs face darkened. โI just canโt with Irene. What the hell is she trying to do?โ
Teresa said helplessly, โIf I actually knew what she was up to, I wouldnโt be stuck here like this.โ
Gary sighed, โTeresa, donโt move around. Iโm heading to the police station to check on Jennifer. You and Mike stay inside; donโt go out. I just came from your company, and there are many reporters gathered there. Please donโt leave the house.โ
Teresaโs brows knitted together in worry. If there are reporters all over my company, what about Miriam? Is she okay? Teresa couldnโt help but worry. As if on cue, just as Gary left, Miriam called Teresa.
Miriam had also seen the news about Jonathan being suspected of illegal insider trading, but there was nothing she could do about it from Friyx. She was there on business for Teresouth Group, and Edward was just tagging along on his vacation.
Teresa breathed a sigh of relief. โItโs actually a good thing you two arenโt here. Donโt come back just yet. Itโs a really messy situation right now, and I donโt want you guys getting dragged into it.โ
Miriam sighed, โIโm not worried about getting dragged into it. Iโm worried about you. Youโre all alone right now.โ
In fact, Miriam knew that Teresa and Jonathanโs remarriage was just for show. Even Jennifer could see through it, and so could Miriam. If Teresa had really remarried, she definitely wouldnโt be acting like this now.
Miriam and Jennifer were the two women who had been by Teresaโs side the longest. But now, neither of them was with Teresa.
Meanwhile, over at the police station, Gary burst in, scanning the room anxiously. Spotting Irene giving her statement, he pointed at her and yelled, โLet her go. Now!โ
Irene shot him a glare. โWhat are you doing here? I donโt have the power to let anyone go.โ
Garyโs temper snapped. He grabbed Irene by the arm and barked, โOh yeah? Then maybe you should be the one behind bars.โ Ireneโs face went pale. She had completely forgotten that Gary knew about that incident.
Gary pressed on. โNeed me to jog your memory about what you did to my mom?โ
Irene yanked her arm free, her patience gone. โYour mom was the homewrecker. She ruined things between me and Yorick first.โ
Gary shot back. โAnd what about your own dirty laundry? Why did my mom give you 3 million and run from Nareigh to Shaville and never dare come back? I donโt mind telling Grandpa, the whole family, or everyone in Nareigh.โ
Irene shoved Gary away, her voice cracking as she lost control. โGo ahead, tell them. Itโs been years. Thereโs no proof, no witnesses. Even if you do, youโll go down with me. Have you even thought about whatโll happen to Jonathanโs company?โ
Gary suddenly fell silent. Irene could see just how much Gary respected Jonathan, and she was hitting him right where it hurt on purpose.
Just then, Benny walked out from the direction of the interrogation room. Gary hurried over. โWhatโs going on now? Is Jennifer really going to be locked up?โ
Benny frowned, shaking his head. โItโs hard to tell right now. Letโs wait until Jonathan gets out and sees. For now, she has to stay in custody.โ
Gary spun around, glaring at Irene. โNow that Jonathan is not here, what are you trying to do to Teresa and Jennifer? Teresa already remarried Jonathan, and now youโre suing Jennifer? The two families are going to be completely done with each other after this.โ
Irene snapped back, โWhy are you yelling at me? Jennifer faked the DNA test, and thatโs why Jonathan and Mike never got to know each other. Thatโs the truth. If you care about her so much, why donโt you go to jail for her?โ
Gary was speechless. โI just feel sorry for her. Donโt you have a shred of empathy? Sheโs lost her job, her marriage. Teresa at least gave Jonathan a child, and this is how you treat them? Are you out of your mind?โ
Just as Gary was fuming, someone suddenly tugged at his sleeve. Without even looking back, he snapped, โWho is it? Donโt touch me!โ The next second, a childโs cries rang out.
Gary spun around and finally saw that the one tugging at his sleeve was actually Michael. Everyone else in the room was stunned into silence.
Michael rubbed his eyes, tears streaming down his chubby cheeks as he looked up and said, โGary, whereโs my dad? I want to bring him home.โ
Gary and Benny both crouched down at the same time, staring at this soft, adorable little Michael in disbelief. How did he end up here? Did Teresa come too? they both wondered.
Michael shook his head. โGary, I was so worried about my dad, so I secretly climbed into your car and followed you here.โ
Gary was dumbfounded. This kid actually snuck out and followed me all the way here?
โI didnโt mean to, Gary. But whereโs my Mr. Daddy Lime?โ Michael sniffled, his big eyes shimmering with tears. His delicate little face was so adorable that it made everyoneโs heart ache.
Gary pulled out his phone. โI should probably call Teresa and let her know. She definitely doesnโt know Mike snuck out with me.โ
Benny stopped him. โDonโt call her. You know how Teresa gets. If she gets too anxious or upset, it could put her pregnancy at risk. Neither of us can handle that kind of responsibility.โ
Gary let out a helpless sigh. So what are we supposed to do now? he thought. Benny said, โIโll take Mike back home in a bit.โ
But just as they were talking, Irene was already reaching out to hug Michael. Benny reacted instantly, blocking her. Irene hurriedly protested, โCanโt I even comfort my own grandson?โ
Benny replied, โIrene, donโt forget you signed that guarantee letter. Even if Jonathanโs not here, you need Teresaโs permission to see the kid. Otherwise, youโll have to pay a penalty.โ
She instantly fumed, remembering that unfair agreement. If she saw the kid without permission, sheโd have to pay Teresa damages.
โBenny, youโre Jonathanโs friend. You should be on his side. Why are you taking Teresaโs side instead?โ Irene snapped.
Benny said calmly, โIโm Jonathanโs friend, and Iโm also Teresaโs friend. I try to be fair. Iโm not taking anyoneโs side. Iโm on the side of the law.โ
