Listen to this chapter:

The security guard let the car in. A black Mercedes-Benz G-Class drove into the yard. When the man got out of the car, Teresa realized it was Gary and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Gary rushed over to Teresa, panting. โ€œTeresa, I saw the news about Jonathan. He called me in a hurry and told me that if he canโ€™t make it back for now, I should escort you and Mike to Jarisburg ahead of time.โ€

Teresa shook her head. โ€œHow am I supposed to leave in a situation like this? Itโ€™s not just Jonathan; Jenniferโ€™s in trouble too.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Gary asked, looking confused. โ€œWhat happened to Jennifer? Wasnโ€™t she traveling outside?โ€

Teresa sighed. โ€œShe came back a while ago. Irene is suing her for faking the DNA test results between Mike and Jonathan. Irene has completely exposed everything now.โ€

Teresa couldnโ€™t figure out why Irene would suddenly go after Jennifer like this. Something must have happened between the two of them, Teresa thought.

Garyโ€™s face darkened. โ€œI just canโ€™t with Irene. What the hell is she trying to do?โ€

Teresa said helplessly, โ€œIf I actually knew what she was up to, I wouldnโ€™t be stuck here like this.โ€

Gary sighed, โ€œTeresa, donโ€™t move around. Iโ€™m heading to the police station to check on Jennifer. You and Mike stay inside; donโ€™t go out. I just came from your company, and there are many reporters gathered there. Please donโ€™t leave the house.โ€

Teresaโ€™s brows knitted together in worry. If there are reporters all over my company, what about Miriam? Is she okay? Teresa couldnโ€™t help but worry. As if on cue, just as Gary left, Miriam called Teresa.

Miriam had also seen the news about Jonathan being suspected of illegal insider trading, but there was nothing she could do about it from Friyx. She was there on business for Teresouth Group, and Edward was just tagging along on his vacation.

Teresa breathed a sigh of relief. โ€œItโ€™s actually a good thing you two arenโ€™t here. Donโ€™t come back just yet. Itโ€™s a really messy situation right now, and I donโ€™t want you guys getting dragged into it.โ€

Miriam sighed, โ€œIโ€™m not worried about getting dragged into it. Iโ€™m worried about you. Youโ€™re all alone right now.โ€

In fact, Miriam knew that Teresa and Jonathanโ€™s remarriage was just for show. Even Jennifer could see through it, and so could Miriam. If Teresa had really remarried, she definitely wouldnโ€™t be acting like this now.

Miriam and Jennifer were the two women who had been by Teresaโ€™s side the longest. But now, neither of them was with Teresa.

Meanwhile, over at the police station, Gary burst in, scanning the room anxiously. Spotting Irene giving her statement, he pointed at her and yelled, โ€œLet her go. Now!โ€

Irene shot him a glare. โ€œWhat are you doing here? I donโ€™t have the power to let anyone go.โ€

Garyโ€™s temper snapped. He grabbed Irene by the arm and barked, โ€œOh yeah? Then maybe you should be the one behind bars.โ€ Ireneโ€™s face went pale. She had completely forgotten that Gary knew about that incident.

Gary pressed on. โ€œNeed me to jog your memory about what you did to my mom?โ€

Irene yanked her arm free, her patience gone. โ€œYour mom was the homewrecker. She ruined things between me and Yorick first.โ€

Gary shot back. โ€œAnd what about your own dirty laundry? Why did my mom give you 3 million and run from Nareigh to Shaville and never dare come back? I donโ€™t mind telling Grandpa, the whole family, or everyone in Nareigh.โ€

Irene shoved Gary away, her voice cracking as she lost control. โ€œGo ahead, tell them. Itโ€™s been years. Thereโ€™s no proof, no witnesses. Even if you do, youโ€™ll go down with me. Have you even thought about whatโ€™ll happen to Jonathanโ€™s company?โ€

Gary suddenly fell silent. Irene could see just how much Gary respected Jonathan, and she was hitting him right where it hurt on purpose.

Just then, Benny walked out from the direction of the interrogation room. Gary hurried over. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on now? Is Jennifer really going to be locked up?โ€

Benny frowned, shaking his head. โ€œItโ€™s hard to tell right now. Letโ€™s wait until Jonathan gets out and sees. For now, she has to stay in custody.โ€

Gary spun around, glaring at Irene. โ€œNow that Jonathan is not here, what are you trying to do to Teresa and Jennifer? Teresa already remarried Jonathan, and now youโ€™re suing Jennifer? The two families are going to be completely done with each other after this.โ€

Irene snapped back, โ€œWhy are you yelling at me? Jennifer faked the DNA test, and thatโ€™s why Jonathan and Mike never got to know each other. Thatโ€™s the truth. If you care about her so much, why donโ€™t you go to jail for her?โ€

Gary was speechless. โ€œI just feel sorry for her. Donโ€™t you have a shred of empathy? Sheโ€™s lost her job, her marriage. Teresa at least gave Jonathan a child, and this is how you treat them? Are you out of your mind?โ€

Just as Gary was fuming, someone suddenly tugged at his sleeve. Without even looking back, he snapped, โ€œWho is it? Donโ€™t touch me!โ€ The next second, a childโ€™s cries rang out.

Gary spun around and finally saw that the one tugging at his sleeve was actually Michael. Everyone else in the room was stunned into silence.

Michael rubbed his eyes, tears streaming down his chubby cheeks as he looked up and said, โ€œGary, whereโ€™s my dad? I want to bring him home.โ€

Gary and Benny both crouched down at the same time, staring at this soft, adorable little Michael in disbelief. How did he end up here? Did Teresa come too? they both wondered.

Michael shook his head. โ€œGary, I was so worried about my dad, so I secretly climbed into your car and followed you here.โ€

Gary was dumbfounded. This kid actually snuck out and followed me all the way here?

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to, Gary. But whereโ€™s my Mr. Daddy Lime?โ€ Michael sniffled, his big eyes shimmering with tears. His delicate little face was so adorable that it made everyoneโ€™s heart ache.

Gary pulled out his phone. โ€œI should probably call Teresa and let her know. She definitely doesnโ€™t know Mike snuck out with me.โ€

Benny stopped him. โ€œDonโ€™t call her. You know how Teresa gets. If she gets too anxious or upset, it could put her pregnancy at risk. Neither of us can handle that kind of responsibility.โ€

Gary let out a helpless sigh. So what are we supposed to do now? he thought. Benny said, โ€œIโ€™ll take Mike back home in a bit.โ€

But just as they were talking, Irene was already reaching out to hug Michael. Benny reacted instantly, blocking her. Irene hurriedly protested, โ€œCanโ€™t I even comfort my own grandson?โ€

Benny replied, โ€œIrene, donโ€™t forget you signed that guarantee letter. Even if Jonathanโ€™s not here, you need Teresaโ€™s permission to see the kid. Otherwise, youโ€™ll have to pay a penalty.โ€

She instantly fumed, remembering that unfair agreement. If she saw the kid without permission, sheโ€™d have to pay Teresa damages.

โ€œBenny, youโ€™re Jonathanโ€™s friend. You should be on his side. Why are you taking Teresaโ€™s side instead?โ€ Irene snapped.

Benny said calmly, โ€œIโ€™m Jonathanโ€™s friend, and Iโ€™m also Teresaโ€™s friend. I try to be fair. Iโ€™m not taking anyoneโ€™s side. Iโ€™m on the side of the law.โ€
