Chapter 917
Hearing that familiar voice, Teresa turned around abruptly. The moment she saw Jonathan, tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision. She couldnโt help but throw her arms around him.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, Teresa was on the verge of tears. She said, โI was so scared. I thought you wouldnโt come back.โ
Teresa pressed herself against his chest. At that moment, she felt she was holding him for real and that he was right there with her. She knew Jonathan had come back.
Jonathan stood there stiff for almost three seconds before he hesitantly put his arms around Teresaโs waist. He was flattered by her sudden affection. He wondered if he was dreaming.
He said softly, โHow could I not come back? I promised you I would.โ
Teresa suddenly realized how carried away she had gotten to throw herself into his arms. She hurriedly let go of Jonathan.
Jonathan was still overwhelmed by her sudden affection. When he caught sight of Teresaโs embarrassed look, a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Right there in front of Eason, Jonathan took Teresaโs hand and gently kissed the back of it. Jonathan said, โSorry to have kept you waiting, Mrs. Lynn.โ
But when Jonathan turned his gaze back to Eason, his eyes instantly became sharp. He said, โMr. Kelly, if you donโt want to enjoy your twilight years, I wouldnโt mind sending a coffin your way.โ
โWhat did you say?โ Eason narrowed his eyes and glared at Jonathan, who stared right back at him.
After a long standoff, Jonathan raised an eyebrow and said, โMr. Kelly, you tried to outmaneuver me at such a time. You know what a Pyrrhic victory is, right? Do you think Iโll just sit back and watch?โ
Eason sneered and said, โAre you threatening me? Boy, let me tell you, when I came into the market in Elarioa, you were still a nobody.โ
But the next second, Jonathan said something that made Easonโs face turn pale in an instant. He said, โMr. Kelly, then how come your individual wealth has been less than mine for the past few years?โ
Eason looked embarrassed. โItโs all because of you. I used to admire you, your skills, and your way of doing things. But you arenโt worth my admiration because you had your mother make a match between you and Yalena when your wife was pregnant."
โI never asked my mother to do that. Actually, Iโve told Ms. Kelly more than once that Iโm not interested in her. Besides, what she did behind the scenes isnโt aboveboard. But putting all that aside, Iโve always respected you, Mr. Kelly,โ Jonathan replied.
Eason let out a cold laugh. โRespect? I donโt think you treat me like an elder at all.โ
Jonathan sighed and said, โA real man is judged by what he does, not what he thinks. If you want to pull the seniority card, be my guest.โ
โLetโs go,โ Jonathan said to Teresa. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and shielded her as they left.
โMr. Kellyโฆโ Easonโs subordinate called out.
โNever mind,โ Eason said. He raised his hand to stop his man from chasing. โLet him go. I donโt want anyone getting hurt.โ
Business rivalries could break out anytime, but the chance for a man to be by his wifeโs side when she was about to give birth might only come once in a lifetime.
Jonathan protected Teresa until she got into the car. They drove a long way home.
โDidnโt I tell you to stay put at home? Why did you come there?โ Jonathan said helplessly, but he found himself unable to scold her.
โI came to talk things out with him and see if I could get anything out of him,โ Teresa explained.
โItโs really sweet of you to care about me. That makes me happy,โ Jonathan said.
โWho said I care about you?โ Teresa turned her head away.
